    Roster Moves by the Wings

So am I the only one that thought Cleary didn't look THAT bad in the few games he played? In my opinion he looked much better than Andersson. Not saying much I know, and I'm not saying we should necessarily keep him, but I'm okay with him sticking around as the 14th forward until we're fully healthy (if we ever are)... Larkin has looked great but I still think he needs time in Grand Rapids. We just have way too many forwards right now. I know I'm in the minority here, much like I was this time last year with Jurco, but I'm hoping he gets sent down tomorrow... Ferraro is not waiver exempt. He won't be sent down.

Wings sign Evgeny Svechnikov to a 3 year entry level contract

Awesome! Good job Evgeny. So far, in 3 games for Cape Breton, Svech has 3 goals and 3 assists, with a +4 rating and 51.8% on draws.
  3. Abdelkader - Larkin - Nyquist Franzen - Sheahan - Glendening Jurco - Nosek - Ferraro Bertuzzi - Athanasiou - Mantha DeKeyser - Smith Russo - Jensen Ouellet - Sproul Mrazek Coreau * If someone wants to update with graphics, please do. * As far as I know, Ken Kal will have an audio stream again. Anyone know if the Pens will be streaming a video feed anywhere? I haven't seen anything yet... I like this lineup a lot, but I do wish Blashill would get over this experiment with Glendening in the top 6. I'd much rather see Jurco up there. The only other thing I would change is switching Smith and Jensen...

9/30 Exhibition GDT : Red Wings 7 at Penguins 2

I get what you're saying kip, and I'm definitely not apposed to keeping Athanasiou at center, it's just I see his speed better suited on the wing, for the same reason I think Helm is a better winger. Either way, I don't see any concern down the middle for us in the future, Larkin as our future number 1, and one of Sheahan, Athanasiou or Svechnikov as our number 2. I don't see the issue with converting a players position if management feels they would be better suited elsewhere, especially if it's done as early as junior. I think pretty much every forward has played every forward positions at some point in their career, and can easily convert from wing to center or vice versa. It's not like switching from defense to forward or vice versa, like they did with Ericsson, which is obviously a much harder transition. No matter how you slice it though, we do have too many forwards (centers and wingers), and there needs to be a trade to alleviate the logjam up front. However, I do agree with rick, that's a lot easier said than done with Holland at them helm...

Kip, I don't think Athanasiou has been so great in these preseason games because he's playing center, I think he's just that good. I still do think he would be just as good or better on the wing, and although I think he may play center down in Grand Rapids this season, I think his future in Detroit is as a winger. I agree 100% Xym. I think Larkin and the Red Wings would both benefit from him playing a full season down in Grand Rapids, tearing up the American League. That along with continuing to gain chemistry with the other kids (hopefully Mantha). Another reason I'd like to see Larkin stay down is because, when was the last time a Red Wing won the Calder Trophy? 50 years, that's how long... The last three to win it, have all been goaltenders, Roger Crozier (1964-65), Glenn Hall (1955-56) and Terry Sawchuk (1950-51)... It'd be awesome to see Larkin win it, but I don't see him winning it over McDavid / Eichel. but Matthews and company would be a real possibility, especially with a full season of pro under his belt... Like the past few seasons, probably even more so this season, I'm looking forward to watch the Griffins just as much as the Red Wings. Going to be a great year...

I agree. He should and most likely will start in Grand Rapids. And I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't play a single regular season game with Detroit until next season...

I'd still be shocked if he starts the season in Detroit. We have way too many forwards and not enough spots. We shall see very soon though... 9 days, but who's counting...

Blash said that he'd like to have as close to a full lineup as possible for Friday's game against the Leafs. I would assume there will be a few more cuts over the next couple days... I'm thinking they're trying to give Larkin as many looks in preseason as possible, before they inevitably send him down to Grand Rapids...

Apparently the Bruins are streaming the game without commentary, but only available to people in the Boston area... WTF? I don't get why all games aren't available. There should be some way to get any and ever game these days... regular season, pre-season, hell even training camp scrimmages... Edit: there may be availability after all! *fingers crossed*...

He also had one assist in a 3-2 win. Saarijarvi had two assists in a 3-2 win.

Are you kidding? Jurco was one of the better players in that game against Chicago. He was a huge reason for 2 of the 3 goals that Tatar scored. On the first one he drove the middle, allowing Tatar and Sheahan to cross, and continued to the net, doing exactly what he needs to do for that line. On Tatar's third goal, he dug the puck out of the corner, and gave it to Richards which started the breakout for the eventual empty netter. He also drew two penalties by providing speed and keeping his feet moving. What exactly did Franzen do in his first game to get his opportunity on that line?... I'm not saying he was bad, but Jurco was really good with them, why change it?

Jurco already bumped off that second line... And playing with Miele and Cleary?... C'mon Blash, smarten up...
