How is Mantha in the AHL pointless?...

I'd love to have Yandle on this team but I just don't see it happening. He has been rumored to be "on the trading block" forever and he's still soaking up the sun in Arizona. What it would take to get him here, I don't think would be worth in the long run. That's just my opinion... We also desperately need a couple right handed shots on our blue line, so Green is more attractive to me for that reason alone. They're both very similar type players, but Green should come much cheaper, being on an expiring contract. Washington also have a glut of NHL defensemen and their team probably needs a bit of a shakeup if they want a chance at making the playoffs this season...

It's likely Mantha probably did say something like this, I've heard many of his interviews and it does sound like something he would say. However, I don't really get the point of this thread... It could have easily been added to the already existing Mantha thread, and without being able to provide a source, it makes even less sense to post. Anyhow, Mantha should start the season in Detroit, if he starts in Grand Rapids, Ken Holland is a moron. He is that good, he definitely doesn't need time to adjust in the minor league......

^ This ^ I wouldn't give up Athanasiou straight up for Myers, let alone the other pieces. Andreas should absolutely be in our future plans, he has a combination of size, speed, skill and hands that is very hard to come by. You don't give up that type of player for a project defenseman like Myers.

I think Andersson needs to be shipped out now, and Callahan called up to replace him on the 4th line...

I still think our biggest need is help on the back end. What does everyone think of trading for Erik Johnson? To me, he is the exact type of player this team could use on their back end. I'd be willing to give up quite a bit for him, I'm just not sure what would get a deal done. Kindl would have to go the other way, and I think he would do well in Colorado's system. I would include Ouellet or Marchenko in the deal, as well as Pulkkinen (as much as I love the kid). I'd also be willing to part with our 1st or 2nd round pick. I'm not sure if that package would get it done but I would love to have Johnson on this team. He is a huge body at 6'4", 236 lbs, shoots right, hits and blocks shots, and is only 26 years old. He's also under contract for another season after this one, at a reasonable $3.75M.

I watched the game last night and to be honest Mantha wasn't near as dominant as he was in the first few games I watched. He still had a few chances but not a great game overall for him. It's just taking him a little while to adjust like it does almost every player making the jump from junior to pro. Pulkkinen is by far the most ready top 6 forward down there right now and he should get the call before Mantha for sure. He has been playing unbelievable hockey down there for over a year now and seems to be getting better every single game. Athanasiou is also playing great right now, the kid spews confidence, and the things he can do out there really make you take notice. I've heard Bob Kaser say numerous times, the same thing Ken and Mick say about Datsyuk, "he is worth the price of admission every night". He has Helm type speed, with much much better hands. I'm as high on Andreas as any prospect on our system.

I just hope he plays it smart this time and doesn't push it. If he needs to take tomorrow night off, take the game off and be ready to go the next game, rather than pushing through it and end up out for another couple weeks...

... and that Zetterberg's line has been bad... I don't know what's going on with them, they were firing on all cylinders to start the season, but they're really struggling lately. Zetterberg really hasn't looked like himself, Nyquist has had his moments but overall has been pretty invisible, and Franzen hasn't been doing a whole lot either. As much as I love that line on paper, it may be time to split them up, if they can't soon start producing...

Looking forward to the game tonight. I haven't watched many since Mantha has been in the lineup, probably only 3 or 4. It seems like every night the Griffins have been playing the Wings have been playing the same night... He hasn't been producing much since I watched him last, so I'm looking forward to see if he's still playing as well as he was the first few games, or if he's struggling to adjust to the pro game... Big W and 2 points for Mantha tonight...

I understand that you like Gazdic and what he brings to the team, but c'mon, when talking about "promising young players", he's not exactly the type of player that should come to mind in that regard. Taylor Hall and not Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, not Jordan Eberle, but Luke f*cking Gazdic... He's nothing more than a fighter, he's not a "promising" young player on any team...

Now that we have that cleared up... Call up Callahan while Abdelkader is out, if he doesn't earn his spot, we can send him down before his 10 games is up, if he does pan out, which I'm certain he will, trade Andersson for a late round pick...

Lol yeah, tell me about it. I still can't believe it. My brother-in-law is really good buddies with Ryane and I've hung out / went golfing with him several times, and I've even been over to his father's house. Tony always seemed like a good guy, and didn't really seem like the type, but I guess most don't. He was very well off, with a huge home, nice vehicles, and all the toys. I guess I assumed a lot of that money came from Ryane, but I guess not...

His first game with Dallas, but he has been playing quite well with the baby Stars so far this season... Only 3 NHL starts under his belt with an 0.846 save percentage. Watch him play lights out against us tonight...

Babcock said there might be a change up front. Will be game-time decision. Cleary is only healthy extra forward... Here's to hoping Cleary is in for Andersson...

"He was slow, soft, looked lost with the puck, and didn't put forth great defensive effort"?... Are you kidding? Are you sure it was Callahan you were watching? Number 57? Because you just described number 18 to a t, minus maybe the defensive effort... Callahan would have been an upgrade over Andersson two months ago, he would be right now, and he most definitely will be in the future. I guess that is correct DIckie. My apologies. Thanks nawein!

Nyquist - Zetterberg - Franzen Tatar - Datsyuk - Helm Jurco - Sheahan - Weiss Miller - Glendening - Andersson Babcock is getting closer to what I have been wanting to see all year... Doubt it'll ever get there though... Switch Helm and Jurco, plug in Abdelkader for Andersson when he is healthy... Perfect!

Why would he walk if we win the cup?... I think if we get bounced early he may consider walking, if we have a deep run, he stays, if we win the cup, he stays. Personally, I don't think Babcock is going anywhere for at least another few seasons...

Also, add in the fact that since October 8th there have been significant number of injuries to most teams around the league, increasing the likelihood that a player goes unclaimed on waivers. If Nestrasil were placed on waivers at the beginning of the season, he would be in Grand Rapids right now. Likewise, if Callahan were placed on waivers last week, he would be in Carolina (or another NHL team) right now. I'm just happy that we lost Nestrasil and not Callahan....

Dickie, I'm not sure if you're understanding that correctly. I'm by no means a waiver guru or anything, so if anyone else wants to chime in, by all means. I may be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure Callahan would have to pass through waivers again. He was sent down at the beginning of the season, having to pass through and he cleared. It is now well over 30 days since he last cleared so my understanding is that if we called him up, he would have to be exposed once again to be sent back down. My thing is, I think he should be called up with full intention to keep him up full time. Get rid of Andersson. Please... In my mind, Andersson and Kindl are our only two weak links right now. Get them off this roster and we'll see what this team is really capable of.

Would Turgeon be trying out for the Canada or US team? I know he has dual citizenship, being born in Quebec and growing up in Colorado...
