Smith has yet to be put in a position to succeed. He is not used to his strengths whatsoever, so yes I agree, his lack of production is due to the coaching. I don't base projections of players on anything I read, any past successes, or point totals. I base it purely on the product I see on the ice and I see a ton of potential in Smith. Whether or not he reaches that potential is another thing, I just hope Holland and co. see the same thing I'm seeing...

Kip, why would you quote "he'll be better" when I didn't say that at all?... I said I don't believe Yandle will be much of an upgrade in a few years from now. Meaning, I do believe Smith is definitely capable of playing a better all around game than Yandle, while putting up somewhere around 40 points a season.

A few things... Helm is not a top 6 forward, and we're all aware of that. But we have a top 6 center injured right now (Weiss) so like any other team with injuries, we have to plug holes. And I agree that Helm is by far the best option to plug that hole right now. I don't think we're in any desperate need to shake things up. We have a lot of young talent coming and we need to see how these guys develop over the next year or so. Although, I do think Yandle is an upgrade over Smith right now, I don't believe he will be in a few years from now. Smith is still young and growing as a defenseman, he will be fine. Also, Yandle doesn't shoot right, he's a lefty. If we're going to trade any of DeKeyser, Smith or Ouellet (which we won't) it needs to be for a right handed shot. I'd love to have Semin on this team and I've been saying that for years. He's exactly what this team needs. No matter how little production he's had this year, imagine him on Pav's wing... He would be lethal on the power-play.

Myers close to become a wing?

I said it before and I'll say it again, giving up on Jurco would be a HUGE mistake, especially for a guy like Myers. Our biggest need right now is top 6 scoring wingers with size. Jurco will be exactly that in a year or two from now and you want to trade him away for a project defenseman? Jurco has an unbelievable skill set, great hands, great skater, decent shot, has good size and hits. He's still very young, he will be great in a few years.

    What happened to Calle Jarnkrok?

Thanks! I guess that's understandable but it really is a shame that RedWingsCentral had to get cut. I watch a lot of Grand Rapids hockey and as many junior games of our prospects that I can but relied on them for all my information and updates on all of our prospects, especially the ones playing in Europe. Just curious, what do people that used to use RWC use for their information now?

Kip, we clearly agree that he isn't playing the role he should be. We both think he should remain in the bottom six. However, I think he would be more effective on the wing rather than center in the bottom six... A third line of Helm - Sheahan and whoever else would be great in my opinion...

The problem isn't the position he is being played in, it's the role he is being played in. Helm shouldn't be relied on to play in the top 6 and put up big points, he should be relied on to forecheck hard, wear on the opponents, and chip in a few points...

Now, if Helm was supposed to be a top 6 winger, then yes, I would absolutely agree. The problem there though is that Helm is a bottom 6 player, playing on a top 6 line. I think he would be just as, or more effective on the wing in a third line role than he has been at center. We all know that Helm's biggest asset is his speed. Where is speed most effective? In my opinion, on the wing. Therefore...

Lol let's not get back into that debate again Kip. I honestly like Helm on the wing rather than at center, but that's just me...

    What happened to Calle Jarnkrok?

Absolutely. Now all I go by is HockeysFuture, and to be honest I'm not a huge fan... Anyone know why they stopped or if they started up any new sites or what happened there...

Helm has... I personally love Franzen at center and think that Nyquist - Franzen - Tatar would be a great 2nd line. That would leave Helm - Sheahan - Jurco as the 3rd, which isn't too bad either...

Was anyone else as disappointed as me when RedWingsCentral decided to stop writing articles?... I looked forward to them every week...

He didn't just "ask" her to set him up with one of her friends, as in a one time thing. She didn't want to and he thought it was a good idea to harass her over social networking...

    What happened to Calle Jarnkrok?

He definitely was no where near 10th in our prospect rankings. I already admitted that he may have been behind Mantha and maybe even Jurco but that's about it. And even that would have been debatable seeming how one guy was in his first year pro and the other still hadn't and STILL hasn't played a single game of pro. As for Nyquist and Tatar they were already graduated from prospect status long before the trade took place. Anyway, he was our number one center prospect playing in Grand Rapids, and that was a hard hit, but like I said numerous times, I'm now, quite okay with the trade and why it was made. I agree that it was made because he had little to no chance in making the big club any time soon. So good for the Wings in getting a return and good for Jarnkrok for getting his shot at the NHL.

    What happened to Calle Jarnkrok?

Maybe some had Mantha already jumped ahead of Jarnkrok at that point, but still even as a top 3 prospect and number one at the center position it was a bit of a blow. I'm over it though. I think it could have turned out a lot worse if we had gotten rid of Sheahan or any number of our other top prospects. Jarnkrok is very replaceable and like I said in another thread, I believe he may already be replaced in the system by Tomas Nosek. Same type skill set but a much bigger body. I just wish we still had Calle's right handed shot. Oh well...

"...but he's always going on about how great everyone on the Wings are." You mean they aren't?...

    What happened to Calle Jarnkrok?

At the time of the trade he absolutely was considered by most Wings fans and anyone who followed the Wings to be our number one prospect at any position. He was certainly ahead of Sheahan, who was considered by most people before last season, to have been another first round bust. He was definitely considered to have a higher ceiling than most guys in our system, even a highly regarded player such as Tatar. And to be honest, even though I wouldn't trade Tatar for Jarnkrok and I am glad we kept Tatar, I would not be at all surprised if Jarnkrok is the better player in 5 years from now...

I don't even get why an opposing fan wouldn't like him... I think he is one of the most exciting, knowledgeable, unbiased color analysts out there, but then again I may be a little biased... Who cannot enjoy all of the Mickey catch phrases (Mickeyisms)? And he always tells it as it is. If he thinks it was a terrible call to put the Wings on the power-play, he says that. He doesn't sugar coat anything. I love him.

    What happened to Calle Jarnkrok?

I was always really high on Jarnkrok, and for good reason. He has a ton of skill, and was the right handed, top 6 center we were looking for. He put up very solid numbers in the SEL and was really starting to find his game here in North America at the time of the trade. I remember hearing about the trade that was in the works for David Legwand and getting kind of excited that we were actually doing something, anything to better our injury depleted team, to make a run at a playoff spot. We had given up a draft pick and Patrick Eaves and an unknown prospect. The last player I thought was going the other way was Calle Jarnkrok. I thought maybe it was going to be Landon Ferraro or some other mid level prospect. I was very disappointed upon the announcement and could not believe that Kenny gave up our number one prospect, plus another role player and pick for a UFA... In saying all that, Jarnkrok is an undersized, skilled player and we have a ton of those in the system. Sheahan was considered by many, including myself to be below Sheahan in the pecking order, and I probably would have been more okay with the trade at the time, if we had traded Sheahan rather than Jarnkrok. I'm so glad Holland and co. knew better than to pull that trigger. Jarnkrok will be fine, and I still believe he has a future in the NHL, but I'm more okay with the trade now then I was at the time of the trade. He really didn't have a spot here, and management seen that and got a pretty decent return for him. I know a lot of people here don't care about the streak, but I do, and it is still alive today because of that trade, and for that I am happy.

You don't think there is anything wrong with a young athlete harassing an ex girlfriend, who is a porn star, to set him up with dates, with her friend porn stars?... She's not a ******* escort service... Also, don't be so god damn lazy, and put work in to get your own tail, don't rely on an ex to do your dirty work. Dudes, clearly got no game. What are 'most' of these young, hot women looking for? Good looking. Check. In good shape. Check. Lots of money. Check. Confidence / Game... Nope. I think a lot of women will stay far away after hearing these stories and rightfully so in my opinion...

The lesson here? Cheating pays off once in a while

Should have been a 2 on 0 penalty shot...
  23. No, you hate him because you chose to hate him a long time ago. Probably because he didn't live up to his 2008 / 2009 / 2010 playoff runs, or maybe because you're still bitter over the whole Hossa thing. Who knows why so many people HATE Franzen so much, but it certainly shouldn't be because of his play on the ice. Yes, he can be frustrating at times, but he is what he is, and people need to realize, like most goal scorers around the league, he's streaky and he's going to be hot and cold. He's paid quite fairly for his production but people still want more out of him. He's been skating better than he ever has lately, but that goes unnoticed by the haters. He isn't as "soft" as many of you make him out to be, he averages more hits per game than most guys on the team, that are not bottom six guys. He goes to the dirty areas, often used as a net front guy taking a lot of punishment in front of the net. Haters are gonna hate... Oh well...
  24. Quincey has been great, but no better than he was the latter half of last season. People just had their minds made up about him after his rough start last season and turned a blind eye to how solid he actually was from January on. He was one of our most steady defenders late last season and he has built off that coming into this season. It's nice to see people finally coming around on him. His absence last night was felt and hopefully his ankle heels up quickly and he gets back into the lineup. Now only if the same people would lay off on the Franzen hate. But who am I kidding, he can skate his ass off and score at least a point every single game for the rest of the season and people would still ***** and complain. He didn't look great last night but the same people were jumping all over him, his first game back from a leg / groin injury, once again saying how awful he is. He wasn't awful, he was just a little slower, which was to be expected, his first game back...

Rating the Defense through 6 games

I never said anything about the Kindl - Lashoff pairing, and quite honestly, I agree with you on that. It's a new season and they deserve another shot to prove themselves, and so far Kindl has done his part in doing so. I just don't think it's fair to point out the lack of production from some of the players on this team that are playing great every night. There are a couple players on the team that aren't bringing much right now but I wouldn't categorize those guys in there with them...
