Get rid of Jurco for Myers? You're kidding right?
-
I agree Ekmanc. I think Marchenko is more NHL ready right now but I think Backman will be the better player down the road. I also think Petry would likely resign if things go well here in Detroit. I know there would be no guarantees (Legeand) but he is a local boy, so he would likely re-up after the season. I would also rather have an NHL defenseman that is what he is now, rather than a kid that projects to be that in 3-5 years. Either way, I think Petry would be a great fit here and I hope Kenny goes after him before giving up any major assets for one of the bigger names being floated around.

Sad news. I would love to get my hands on some sort of memorabilia from the Joe. How much are seats going to go for I wonder...

That was posted way before the season started... Which makes it that much more logical...

Why does Franzen have to be brought up in every single thread? A topic about a potential trade with a defenseman on another team, and the Franzen hate still flows in. Franzen is playing the best hockey I've seen him play ever, and that includes 2007-10 playoffs. No he's not scoring at will like he seemed to be back then but he's skating great, fore-checking and back-checking as hard or harder than anyone on the team, and he still gets heat from the same old people on here. Give it a ******* rest. Franzen has said prior to the season starting that he is in the best shape of his career and it has shown. Hate all you want but I bet he puts up career numbers this season. On topic, of all the defenseman rumored to be available, Petry is probably the most appealing, relative to cost of course. He is the much needed right handed defenseman that can help out on our power-play, he is big (6'3", 200lbs.) and plays big, he's a hitting and shot blocking machine and would lead our team in both categories by a long shot. If he can be had for a relatively low price, I think we should go after him. Kindl and Backman or Marchenko and a mid to late round pic?...

I couldn't agree more with your assessment Jesusberg.

I wrote something similar this morning but it didn't post for whatever reason and I was too lazy to retype everything... But I agree, none of Nyquist, Tatar, Jurco or Mantha should be involved in a trade for any defenseman in my opinion. None of the elite defense are going to be available to make losing any of those guys worth it and besides, we already have a bit of a logjam on the back end. Why add to that? If we're trading for any of the players reportedly available (Yandle, Bogosian, Byfuglien, Myers, Brewer, Gardiner, Methot...), I think a defenseman or two should go the other way. The players I'd have available would be Kindl, Ouellet, Backman and Marchenko, I'd rather keep Sproul and Jensen if possible...

Love the wallpapers Matt. I always have one on my phone and one on my laptop, I'll make whatever you have available work though. Thanks and keep up the good work! The only suggestion I would have would be, if it would be possible to make one for both the Red Wings and Griffins games. It would probably be tough to do that though, and keep the sharp look. It would probably be too cluttered and confusing... Anyway, just a thought...

Is the DeKeyser - Smith pairing split up or is that just a typo? As far as I know they were still practicing together yesterday... Also, get Weiss in the lineup already. He's an upgrade over half the forwards that we've had dressed over the past two games. What the f*** gives Babs?

Kip, I hear ya, it is definitely a huge package and probably more than they'd be asking for but I don't think by much. I think Hall is and will be a better player than all 3 of those guys. The only one that I think is comparable is Spezza and he is much older as are the other two compared to Hall. Either way, it's a moot point because there is no way Hall is getting moved and especially not the Detroit. Come on, you can't be serious with this Weiss and Kindl talk for Taylor Hall??? MacTavish would laugh hysterically and hang up and then call you back just to laugh some more...
-
That's why it's very rare to see top end players traded, especially in their prime or before they even hit their prime. But are you saying you wouldn't trade any one of those guys straight up for Hall? I would trade all three of them individually for Hall but I definitely wouldn't trade that package either. Hall is a point per game player at the age of 22. The only player with that kind of potential is Mantha and even that is uncertain.
-
Are you saying hell no in that you wouldn't do it? (because I obviously wouldn't either...) or that it wouldn't cost that much? Because I think it would cost that (or in that ballpark...)
-
I'd love to have Taylor Hall on this team, but that's a massive pipedream if there ever was one... Mantha, Nyquist, Ouellet, first might get the conversation started...
-
I think all of these guys would be an upgrade to our blue line, but at what cost? Myers would have to come relatively cheap, and Kindl go the other way for me to be at all interested. Yandle would definitely boost our blueline, but it would certainly be fairly steep so it depends on what had to go the other way. Would love to have him though. I was a huge fan of Bogosian a few years ago but he has fallen off a little. I'd still consider trading for him at the right price.
-
Where have you heard that Mantha, plus our first, plus... would be involved in a trade for Myers? It seems like every trade that we're "linked to", Mantha is the guy that other teams want. The problem is, there is no way they're getting him. Mantha is as untouchable a prospect we've had in a long time. He's not going anywhere unless it gets us an already elite player in the NHL still in his prime, which isn't going to happen either. I don't think Myers is a terrible player by any means but I don't think he is what this team needs right now, especially with all the other kids knocking on the door...

Babcock "I don't think it will be my final year here"

Frank and others that always say, "well don't read it then, problem solved...", I don't know about anyone else on here but I don't know until after I read something if it is something that I would categorize as "getting old" or "rubbish" or whatever... But believe me, if I could "unread" a lot of what a few people on here have to say, I most certainly would... Unfortunately that is not an option, so I will have to continue to suffer reading through some of the bulls***... Just as I'm sure, you think the same about me and a few other positive assholes on here... How dare us have a positive outlook on our team... -

A lot of things are getting really ******* old on here, not just the Holland hate... -

Like he said directly after that, plug Weiss in. Why he is not in the lineup is beyond me... If he still isn't in after the next couple games, I will be shocked... -

Kip, I do like those lines but not exactly what I'd go with, but then again, not many people are going to agree on the exact same lines and defense pairings... Who would you scratch / send down / call up with that option available? My lines would look something like this... Nyquist - Zetterberg - Franzen Tatar - Datsyuk - Jurco Helm - Weiss - Sheahan (I know you'll hate this line with 3 centers but I think it could be a great 3rd line until Weiss gets going...) Miller - Glendening - Abdelkader Kronwall - Ericsson DeKeyser - Smith Quincey - Ouellet -

I do somewhat agree with what Babs is saying, in that Pav will be a huge boost offensively. But once again he is making fans scratch their collective heads, wondering why the hell Weiss hasn't been added to the lineup with so many borderline 3/4 line players in. All of the players you mentioned have impressed me in the first two games, especially Abdelkader, but he still should not be in the top 6. Just curious Kip, what would your ideal forward lines and defense pairings look like with everyone healthy? -
There are a ton of examples around the league of players getting rushed into the NHL way too early, and suffering from it. A lot of these guys are still kids coming from junior and are pressured to produce at the highest level right away. This is exactly why I think it's best for Mantha to start his career and possibly even spend his entire first season down in Grand Rapids once he's healthy. I know this is going to be an unpopular opinion on here, but I also think Jurco could use a little more time down in GR and I wouldn't mind him being sent down once Datsyuk is healthy and if Babcock ever decides to get Weiss in the lineup... On Petry, I wouldn't mind having him but only if Kindl is going the other way, and it would certainly take more than that to get him. Probably more than I'd be willing to give up, especially with so many other guys knocking on the door to crack our back end.

You talk about balance and then you put our two top offensive guys together? Balance isn't just about putting a veteran with youth, it's about balancing strengths. That's why I believe what I said to be the best combinations. Also, whether people want to admit it or not, Quincey is a responsible veteran that Oulette could combine with to make a very formidable bottom pairing.
-
I agree that either Ouellet or Jensen and maybe even one of the other 3 (Sproul, Marchenko or Backman) could step in and be effective NHLers today, but having too many young guys, like I said, in my opinion is a recipe for disaster. You do need some "solid" vets that know how to be "every dayers"... I'm quite okay with sticking with what we have until we (hopefully) get rid of Kindl and bring up Ouellet or Jensen, and then bring in another next year once one is somewhat seasoned...

Red Kelly?... -
Wanting to break in "some" kids is very reasonable, however, some people are suggesting we have a blueline of Kronwall and the rest kids, which is ridiculous... Everyone wants the shiny new toys and I get that. I personally can't wait to see a few of these guys crack the Red Wings lineup but too many kids on the blueline is a recipe for disaster. Kronwall - Ericsson DeKeyser - Jensen Smith - Ouellet / Sproul Lashoff Looks sexy doesn't it? But can you imagine the amount of rookie mistakes that would be made?... Scary. Hence why Holland wants to ease these guys in. What's the rush? Our defense isn't terrible as it stands right now and it will only be better in the long run with patience. The Red Wing way of over ripening players isn't going to change and for good reason. Of course there are exceptions to the rule, but for the most part, players will pay their dues in the minors and when they finally reach the big leagues they will be good and ready.
