2014 Prospects Tournament and Training Camp (Sept. 12-23)

Anyone come across any highlights from game 4 of the prospects tournament?

Those are some terrible looking lines lol. Where is Jurco?... Is he gone over to Team Lindsay to replace Tatar?...

    Training Camp Thread

IF Alfredsson isn't ready to go, and it's looking more and more like he won't be, and IF Jurco starts the season in Detroit, I'd love to see our top two lines as... Nyquist - Zetterberg - Franzen Tatar - Datsyuk - Jurco OR Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Jurco Nyquist - Franzen - Tatar

    Flames adding Truculence...Yonkman, Gillies PTO

I agree completely rick zombo. I think many people would be thinking a little differently if we were to miss the playoffs a few year in a row and then had to wait another so many years before we were true cup contenders again. I'd much rather the Red Wings approach and tweak / rebuild on the fly. We've done it after Yzerman, Fedorov and co. with Zetterberg and Datsyuk. I believe we're a lot closer than some people realize to doing it once again with guys like Nyquist, Tatar, Jurco, Mantha, Athanasiou, Pulkkinen, Nosek and Frk. Obviously not all guys are going to make it, let alone have the same impact that the previous guys had but I do believe we have at least two from that list that will make a huge impact similar to Pav and Hank. Tanking has proven not to work for various teams, so why do it? What Burke is doing in Calgary is a mockery of the league in my opinion. He's always been a fan of building tough, hard to play against teams, but c'mon man, that team is ridiculous. Do the guys like Monahan, Gaudreau, Baertschi, Granlund, Bennett all need two fighters to protect each of them? I don't think so... I don't think a team NEEDS any fighters on their roster (although I wouldn't mind having ONE) but does a team really need a dozen fighters?... M-o-c-k-e-r-y...

    Mantha's Injury

Well I guess we'll never know how things "would have" played out, but I still believe that Mantha had a zero shot at making the Red Wings out of camp, therefore Mantha's injury has no barring on whether or not Jurco makes the big club. In my opinion the only thing that will keep Jurco down to start the season is if Alfredsson is ready to go on October 9th against Boston - I hope he is.

    Mantha's Injury

Yeah, I've mentioned it before too. I've been told to download a different browser and it should fix the problem, but I tried that and no such luck. I use this account on my home computer, my work computer and my iphone and the quote function doesn't work on any so I'm assuming it's my account...

    Mantha's Injury

I don't think anyone thinks that because of this injury he won't be a regular in the Wings lineup... I just don't believe he will make the Wings lineup this season, unless there is a massive run of injuries again this season, which I am doubting. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a call-up at some point but I don't think he will be a regular until 2015-16 at the earliest... That's just my opinion.

    3 Training Camp Squads named

Why not go with some already proven chemistry but more importantly balance... I don't want to see our two most offensive players on one pairing and our two most defensive players on the other, it just doesn't make sense... Kronwall - Ericsson DeKeyser - Smith Quincey - (Kindl / Marchenko / Backman / Ouellet / Sproul) Lashoff

    Mantha's Injury

Like HockeyTownRules19 and many others have been saying all along, he wasn't going to make the Wings roster out of camp anyway. I see this as a Grand Rapids injury not a Red Wings injury, so to me it isn't much different than if Pulkkinen was the one who got injured. Anyway, I hope for a speedy recovery so I can watch him develop down in Grand Rapids.

    Mantha's Injury

number9 - Well he wears number 39, but he can't be a day older than 20... okay maybe two days...

    Mantha's Injury

I would but I can't quote from my computer for whatever reason. I usually just reply normally if it's directly after the person I am replying to, otherwise I will write the person's name I am responding to.

    Mantha's Injury

If you read the post directly before mine you would understand that my comment was in no way directed toward you. It was somewhat of a mock toward the previous comment of "Welcome to the Red Wings, where injuries are expected!" and also to the many other people I expected to follow up with panic - "the sky is falling" - replies... Your question was valid and I didn't say anything about that, however, I'm not really sure if it was thread worthy... It could have easily been questioned in the other Mantha thread or the Pre-Season thread. Anyway, relax, it wasn't directed at you...

Tatar Signs 3 Year Deal $2.75 mill AAV

Tatar and Jurco do really compliment each other really well but I'm not so sure Tatar needs to play with a "big body". I mean, he is only 5'10", 185lbs. but he plays like he's 6'4", 220lbs. Fearless.

2014 Prospects Tournament and Training Camp (Sept. 12-23)

Exactly what I was saying DeGraa... How you read "this kid is a keeper" and translate that to "this kid is a generational talent" is beyond me...

    Mantha's Injury

Welcome to LGW, where everything is blown way out of proportion!...

Dekeyser signed. 2 yrs $2.187 million AAV

Sproul and Backman are my two favorite defense prospects we have right now. Backman reminds me a lot of DeKeyser actually, not spectacular in any aspect of the game but very solid all around. Sproul is pure offense and if he can work out the kinks in his defensive game I think he has the potential to be a poor man's Doughty...

2014 Prospects Tournament and Training Camp (Sept. 12-23)

Yup, Athanasiou looks unreal. I hope Blashill plays him and Mantha together all year in Grand Rapids. Once again, extremely happy Holland doesn't have the quick trigger finger that a lot of LGWers have. A lot of people on here were ready to trade this kid just a few short months ago. I said it back then and I'll say it again now, this kid is a keeper for sure.

2014 Prospects Tournament and Training Camp (Sept. 12-23)

I don't doubt that there is a chance Mantha could suit up for the Wings at some point this season, but I still say it's a zero percent chance he makes the team out of camp. Let's see how he adapts to the pro game down in Grand Rapids first, and then we can re-evaluate this whole thing in a couple months. How many injuries will there be in the first couple months and will Mantha dominate the American League like so many are expecting?...

Regner: Next year could be Babcock's last

I'm not really sure how that is the "reality"... Until Babcock even hints at the possibility that he may entertain offers from other teams, he is a Red Wing, that is the "reality"... I'm pretty sure Holland has a pretty good idea of what Babcock's intentions are after this season. I'm not worried. He loves it here, he is raising his family here, he isn't going anywhere... And if he does decide to move on, I think it will be for far bigger reasons than money or term, and if that's the case, it is out of the GM's hands... So be it...

Regner: Next year could be Babcock's last

Lol, well said Dabura. On top of all that is how well he is treated by the Red Wings, the classiest organization in the NHL, probably all of sports. Why would he be so quick to leave that? I don't think he really has any intension in leaving, he's just got to play a little hardball to get what he along with Kenny thinks is the right deal. Also, with all the talent in the pipeline, coming up over the next few years, that may be another enticing reason to stay in Detroit. I'm willing to bet he can see the brightness at the end of the tunnel that most fans can't seem to see. I just don't see him signing with another team, he'll be resigned for another 4 years.

Regner: Next year could be Babcock's last

Say what you want about the way Holland negotiates contracts, but I think he is right in trying to get a "fair" contract. That goes for players and coaches. I'm quite okay with Holland not overpaying on free agents and trying to sign his own players and coaches to reasonable deals. I wish more GM's across the league would have this same mentality. If that were the case, we probably wouldn't even know of the term "lock-out"... I'm well aware that the coaches salaries are not included in a teams salary cap but it can still effect the state of the league. So, Babcock gets paid $5M next season, is anyone so naïve to think that all other coaches negotiating new contracts won't demand a little (lot) more. Even though they may not be on the same level as Babs in terms of accomplishments, I don't think he is twice as good as every other coach in the league. What happens when coaches such as Darryl Sutter, Joel Quenneville, Claude Julien, Ken Hitchcock (who in my opinion are pretty darn close to Babcock) need a new deal? They also get double their previous contract, based on Babcock's new contract, and it just keeps escalating. Same goes for free agent players, and that's why so many players in the league today are waaaay overpaid. There is a bidding war for mediocre players every single year and I love that Holland doesn't like to overpay and wants to get a "fair" contract. Ken Holland will never be the cause of an NHL lock-out and for that I appreciate what he is trying to do. No man (player or coach) should be paid the sums of money these guys are making but that's another topic...

    2014-15 Grand Rapids Griffins

Lol Kindl was awesome in junior, he also played admirably well in his last couple years down in Grand Rapids. That's exactly why you never know if / how most prospects will turn out... I still think he has the potential to turn things around, however I don't think he has much time left to do so on this team with all the talented d prospects coming up over the next two years. And I'd be surprised if he becomes anything more than a number 4 / 5 tweener on any team at this point.
