Total overreaction by many here. Am I the only one that sees this as Zetterberg in for Jurco and Bertuzzi in for Andersson (which in my opinion isn't a terrible tradeoff). Sure Andersson is much better on the defensive side of the game, but even at the tender age of 39, Bertuzzi provides much more offense then Andersson and is a much needed addition (net front presence) on the powerplay. I see Jurco being scratched for Zetterberg, which I think we can all agree is an upgrade, even if Hank is only at 80%. Does anyone actually believe that if Zetterberg wasn't ready to go tonight that Jurco would be the odd man out before Andersson? Not likely. Therefore, Hank in replace of Jurco and Bert in replace of Andy.

GDT ECQF - Game 4 - Bruins 3 at Red Wings 2 (F/OT)

I definitely don't disagree with those lines but my bet is we will see that with Legwand and Helm switched... -
Least favorite player, without question - Mikael Samuelsson Most undeserved hated on player - Kyle Quincey

I'm not too concerned about San Jose signing Goodrow, but I was kinda disappointed to see Trevor Van Riemsdyk sign with Chicago. Although we have a ton of young defensive prospects, I think this kid could be another DeKeyser type stud, straight out of university. Only time will tell...

I assumed he was referring to a "Sh!t Disturber"... Maybe?...

Thank you! This! X 1,000,000... -
I understand that but I still disagree with that way of thinking and still wish the Leafs had won last night. I don't care about "the odds". Bottom line, with Montreal winning last night, it gives us a lesser chance in getting a top three in the division and that is what I am aiming for and what the Red Wings should be aiming for. Let's Go Wings!
-
I agree, but we can still only control the games that we play. I just think it makes more sense to aim higher when cheering for other teams to win or lose. I was rooting hard for the Leafs last night but I'm not too disappointed, I was just happy it ended in regulation. I can definitely see us looking back at that game at the end of the season when we finish ahead of the Leafs (probably missing the playoffs) and one point behind the Habs in a wild card spot instead of one of those three top division seeds...
-
I don't get why so many people were going for the Habs last night?.. So short sighted in my opinion, I'd prefer to look at the bigger picture. With the Habs winning in regulation it put them six points ahead of us and the Leafs just one point ahead of us with two games in hand on both. So, yes it made it much easier to pass one team but we could potential pass both teams and lock up a top three spot in the division. If the Leafs had won in regulation it would have put them three points ahead of us and the Habs four points ahead of us with two games in hand on both. Both teams would be within reach, we would just have to continue playing well, which I believe we will. Even if we pass Toronto we are still in a wild card spot, I would much prefer be in a fight for one of those guaranteed top three spots. Just my opinion....

Every team other than Boston and Pittsburgh are "catchable" but while some fans go for the higher seed team so that the lower seed team is even more attainable for us, I always go for the lower seed team so that the higher seed team isn't too far out of reach. Believe it or not, although very unlikely, it is still possible for us to finish 3rd or 4th in the conference. I guess I believe, because we control our own fate at this point, that we can and will get into the playoffs so I'm always hoping that we can jump over two or three teams rather than just one. So, tonight I will be going for the Rangers and tomorrow night I will be going for the Leafs.

Couldn't agree more! Trade - Andersson at the draft for a 2014 mid-round pick and package Kindl, prospect(s) Almquist and a pick for an upgrade on D Buyout - Tootoo Resign RFA's - DeKeyser, Tatar, Sheahan, Glendenning, Ferraro, Callahan and Nestrasil Resign UFA's - Alfredsson, Legwand, Quincey (if there are no better options available and he is willing to take a pay-cut) Let walk - Bertuzzi, Cleary, Samuelsson, Gustavsson Sign - cheap, reliable backup goalie, and an upgrade on D if there is anything available. Nyquist - Zetterberg - Franzen Tatar - Datsyuk - Alfredsson Helm - Weiss - Sheahan Miller - Legwand - Abdelkader Ferraro - Callahan Kronwall - Ericsson DeKeyser - Smith Quincey (UFA) Lashoff Howard (UFA) Give Jurco and Pulkkinen another year down in Grand Rapids, being the first two call-ups if and when anyone goes down in the top 6, and Ferraro and Callahan being the first call-ups if and when anyone goes down in the bottom 6. Keep Glendenning down until the inevitable injuries begin to mount. Hopefully Nestrasil and Frk can continue to develop into NHL calibre players (both need at least another two years of seasoning in my opinion). Unless Mantha, or to a lesser extent Athanasiou tear up the AHL, let them both have a full year, possibly two, to work on their pro game. I believe they are both further away then many fans think they are. Also, give Mrazek another full season developing his game in the AHL. I believe he will benefit a lot more from getting 50-60 starts down in Grand Rapids with a few call-ups, then he would to back-up Howard, playing maybe 20 games.

Red Wings have Recalled Pulkkinen from Grand Rapids
krsmith17 replied to Datsyukian-Deke's topic in General
The problem is, he probably won't demonstrate solid play on the 4th line, because that just isn't his game. He is not a checker so why put him in that role? Put the kid on a line with a couple players that can actually tee it up for him in the slot. Emmerton and Miller are not those players. -

I'd much rather something like... Nyquist - Franzen - Alfredsson Tatar - Legwand - Pulkkinen Abdelkader - Sheahan - Bertuzzi Miller - Glendenning - Callahan Babcock is terrible at line adjustments. Abdelkader is not a top line player. How is Alfredsson supposed to do anything on a line with Glendenning and Bertuzzi? How is Pulkkinen supposed to show what he can do on the 4th line with Emmerton and Miller? C'mon Babs, put players in a position to succeed, instead of always setting them up for failure. -
People may not agree but I would overpay for a guy like Jacob Trouba. I see him as the closest thing to a future Weber. Can you imagine a pairing of DeKeyser - Trouba in a few years? To Winnipeg - Jakub Kindl, Xavier Ouellet, Joakim Andersson, 2014 1st and 3rd To Detroit - Jacob Trouba In 3 years Kronwall - Ericsson DeKeyser - Trouba Smith - Sproul Not gonna happen though...

My best guess would be... UFA's Legwand - $4.5M Alfredsson - $3.5M Bertuzzi - GONE Cleary - GONE Samuelsson - GONE Quincey - $2.75M Gustavsson - $2M RFA's Tatar - $1.25M Sheahan $950K Glendenning - $700K Ferraro - $700K Callahan - $650K Emmerton - GONE Almquist - $700K

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?
krsmith17 replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
Well, we'll have to agree to disagree on that. Brodeur has spent his entire career with the Devils, has won 3 Stanly Cups and will be 42 years old in a couple months. I see Marty retiring after this season as a Devil and having some sort of job with the team, maybe as a goaltender coach or something (coaching his son, Anthony to carry on the Brodeur legacy). I hope he doesn't get traded but who knows. Jagr, on the other hand has become a nomad of the NHL since returning from the KHL, playing for 4 different teams in the past 3 years. I think his goal is to play for every NHL team before he turn 50... -

I'm not saying Jagr is coming to Detroit, he probably won't but I do believe he would be a huge help down the stretch. I think a line of Jagr - Datsyuk - Franzen could be scary good. How is Kindl and Andersson a huge over payment? Gilbert is a solid veteran that can help stabalize our back end. Kindl has potential for sure, but he has not reached it yet. Andersson is exactly what you see, decent size and doesn't use it, slow, solid on draws and a good penalty killer. Very expendable in my opinion. I'd use him as a throw in on pretty much any deal and I don't think Kindl alone would get it done for Gilbert. Maybe Kindl and a mid round pick or mid level prospect. Hey, I'd rather throw out a proposal like that then what some other have put on here. I could have said something along the lines of Boyes and Gilbert for Samuelsson and Almqvist... -

What makes you so sure that the Devils won't trade Jagr? They're currently on the outside looking in, granted only 3 points out but also with 2 more games played. I think the chance of them being sellers is very likely. They're also rumored to possibly trading Brodeur, who is also at the tail end of his career, so why not get something for Jagr while they can as well? However, I think the chances of them trading Jagr would be much more likely then them trading Marty. I would bet on Jagr getting traded before the deadline on Wednesday, where he goes, time will tell. But I would love to have him for a rental for a playoff push, if it cose us something similar to what I proposed above. -

I can't see Holland going after any of the big names that are on the market and I can't see us picking up anyone other than a depth defenseman. In saying that, I think Tom Gilbert would be a great pickup and it shouldn't cost too much in assets. I think Kindl and Andersson could get the deal done. They get a young, former first rounder, that still has potential to grow, as well as a great penalty kill that they desperately need, being ranked dead last on the PK at just 76.4%. Gilbert is a UFA after this season, with a low $900K cap hit, so if he works out, he may resign to another reasonable contract at a slight raise. He's only 31 years old and is a right handed shot, and he has more points (3-22-25) than anyone on our blueline not named Kronwall. He's not overly physical (45 hits) despite being 6'3" and over 200lbs but he blocks a decent number of shots (78). To Florida - Jakub Kindl, Joakim Andersson To Detroit - Tom Gilbert Kronwall - Ericsson DeKeyser - Smith Quincey - Gilbert Lashoff I don't think we really need to upgrade our offense too much but If Holland does want to go after a forward with Zetterberg out for the rest of the regular season and maybe questionable for the playoffs, I think Jagr could be a decent option. He can maybe had for a couple mid level prospects and a mid round draft pick. He's getting up there now at age 42 but he can definitely still be a huge impact player. He has 50 points so far this season on a weaker, more defensive minded team. Those 50 points would make him our leading scorer, not too shabby for an old man. To New Jersey - Landon Ferraro, Nick Jensen, conditional 2014 3rd round dtaft pick To Detroit - Jaromir Jagr Jagr - Datsyuk - Franzen Nyquist - Weiss - Alfredsson Tatar - Sheahan - Jurco Miller - Helm - Abdelkader Eaves / Bertuzzi / Cleary LTIR - Zetterberg I think if this team could stay relatively healthy it would be able to continue the steak as well as make a decent push for the Stanley Cup this season... -
