I definitely agree that Andersson should be dealt in a trade, even if it's just for a mid to late round pic, he is very expendable at this point in my opinion. I also agree that Jurco should be the first to be sent down, he's had his taste of the NHL and I think he could use the rest of the season to work on some things (further ripe) down in Grand Rapids. I also think the lines you put together are very Babcock, and probably very similar to what we'll see right after the break. However, I would personally like something a little different. All the same players but something like this... Nyquist - Zetterberg - Franzen Tatar - Datsyuk - Alfredsson Weiss - Helm - Eaves Miller - Sheahan - Abdelkader Glendenning / Cleary Kronwall - Ericsson DeKeyser - Smith Quincey - Lashoff Kindl

I completely agree with everything you said, number 9, except I wouldn't hate having Alfie back for one more year. My roster would be pretty similar but my lineup would look a little different. I'd like to see something like this... Tatar - Datsyuk - Franzen Nyquist - Zetterberg - Alfredsson Helm - Weiss - Abdelkader Miller - Sheahan - Callahan Glendenning - Ferraro Kronwall - Ericsson DeKeyser - Smith Kindl - Almquist Lashoff Howard Gustavsson

Although it is nice to think of a towering 6'9" defender on our blue line some day, I wouldn't count on this kid making the Wings roster. With all the potential d prospects we have coming up over the next few years I just don't see this kid making the cut. As for it maybe being the influence of the Blackhawks, yes it is possible, but unlikely because of the fact that he attended the Red Wings training camp last fall.

For the article and full list of players: http://theahl.com/all-star-roster-p189697 I'm really surprised Mrazek didn't make the team, as well as maybe Pulkkinen and Sproul. The games take place during the Olympic break so that's why Jurco wasn't named to the team.

Does anyone want to buy a single person pack to two of the Alumni games on New Years Eve as well as the Winter Classic game on New Years Day? Me and a few of my friends are in town for the events this week and one of them backed out so I have one ticket to both of the events. I bought them online for $700 and I am just looking to get that money back. If anyone is interested, let me know. Thanks!

With everyone healthy I would like to see... Tatar - Datsyuk - Franzen Nyquist - Zetterberg - Alfredsson Weiss - Helm - Bertuzzi Abdelkader - Andersson - Miller Kronwall - Ericsson DeKeyser - Smith Quincey - Kindl

I don't get the excitement of the cap increasing so drastically over the next couple seasons. We would definitely benefit much more with a similar cap to the current $64.3 mil, maybe an increase of 2-3 mil to 66-67 mil. Look at our list of UFA's we can potentially get rid of after this season. Alfredsson - $5.5 mil Samuelsson - $3 mil Bertuzzi - $2.075 mil Cleary - $1.75 mil Eaves - $1.2 mil Quincey - $3.775 mil Gustavsson - $1.5 mil A grand total of $18.8 mil "potentially" coming off the books. Chances are we will resign 2 or 3 of them, I'm thinking Alfredsson at a slightly lower cap hit (approx. $4.5 mil) and Gustavsson at a slightly higher cap hit (approx. $2.25mil). With the raises that we've given / will give to players like Datsyuk, Ericsson, Tatar (approx. $1.25 mil) and DeKeyser (approx. $3.25 mil) we still have enough cap space to sign a few of our RFA's, Sheahan (approx. $1 mil), Ferraro (approx. $0.9 mil), Glendenning (approx. $0.75 mil), and Almquist (approx. $0.9 mil). I think a lineup something like this is an improvement over this years roster. Just my opinion... FORWARDS Tomas Tatar ($1.250m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($7.500m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Gustav Nyquist ($0.950m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Daniel Alfredsson ($4.500m) Stephen Weiss ($4.900m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.800m) Drew Miller ($1.350m) / Landon Ferraro ($0.900m) / Riley Sheahan ($1.000m) Luke Glendening ($0.750m) / Joakim Andersson ($0.733m) DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($4.250m) Danny DeKeyser ($3.250m) / Brendan Smith ($1.263m) Adam Almquist ($0.900m) / Jakub Kindl ($2.400m) Brian Lashoff ($0.725m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($5.292m) Jonas Gustavsson ($2.250m) BURIED Jordin Tootoo ($0.975m) SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,849,545; BONUSES: $0 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $450,455

Well he was a 14th overall pick so the potential is definitely there, it's just a matter of honing his game at the NHL level and I believe he will in time. You have to remember he is only 23 years old with 260 games already played in the NHL. He is just 4 months older than Almquist, who has barely got a sniff of NHL action (just 2 games). He is around the age of most of our top prospects but has the benefit of already playing 4 seasons in the bigs. I think grabbing this kid would be huge for us, assuming Florida aren't too much.

Quincey, Almquist and a 2014 mid round draft pick... Kronwall - Ericsson DeKeyser - Smith Kulikov - Kindl Looks good to me...

With the over crowded roster and Eaves making his debut against Vancouver tonight and Helm possible for one of the games in Alberta this weekend, just wondering what people think Kenny and Babs should do... If I were Ken Holland... Trade Samuelsson (retain 50% of his salary - $1,500,000) for a late round draft pick or future considerations to a struggling team with cap space (Florida, Buffalo, Calgary...) Trade Andersson for a 2014, 3rd round draft pick to a team looking for depth at center (New York I, Buffalo, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver...) Trade Quincey and a 2014, 2nd and / or a 3rd round pick to either Edmonton for Ladislav Smid or Philadelphia for Nicklas Grossmann. Promote Nyquist and Tatar full time. If I were Mike Babcock... Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Alfredsson Nyquist - Franzen - Tatar Abdelkader - Weiss - Bertuzzi Miller - Helm - Cleary / Eaves / Tootoo Kronwall - Ericsson Smid or Grossmann - Kindl DeKeyser - Smith Lashoff Howard Gustavsson I think the top line would absolutely dominate once they got going. I really think that Franzen is better suited playing down the middle, getting more involved and would benefit by playing with two young, energetic players trying to prove themselves. The third and forth lines have the potential to be the best bottom two lines in the league, one big, crash and bang line and one energetic, grinding line.
-
I'm well aware of the no trade clause but he would definitely waive that after being a healthy scratch for 15-20 straight games. And there are definitely a few teams out there that would take a chance on a player like Samuelsson for $1,500,000.
-
Care to elaborate / explain why you think that line wouldn't work? I think it has potential to be great. Eaves can also be traded for a draft pick if cap space is needed.

Mantha is crushing the Q, 4 goals and an assist tonight
krsmith17 replied to matthewdanna's topic in Prospects
Ok..... What's your point??? Goals against do NOT effect your +/- when you're on the penalty kill... so...? -
Mantha is crushing the Q, 4 goals and an assist tonight
krsmith17 replied to matthewdanna's topic in Prospects
Well it doesn't really have anything to do with him playing the penalty kill... +/- isn't effected on the man advantage, unless you let in a short handed goal. The point was that all those points scored on the power play don't increase his +/-... -

krsmith17 replied to matthewdanna's topic in Prospects
His +/- is actually pretty solid when you consider the number of power play points he has. He only has 6 points at even strength (3 goals, 3 assists), he has 9 (half of his total points) on the power play (5 goals, 4 assists), and he also has 3 short handed goals, which is always nice to see. That to go along with the fact that he is always out there against against the other teams best players, he is off to a great start again this season. I've watched two of his games so far this year and he really does look like a man among boys out there, he can dominate in every aspect of the game. It really is a shame, with that new rule he cannot be playing with the Griffins this season. I think he would benefit much more playing against men in the AHL rather than playing against boys in junior. -
1. Datsyuk and Zetterberg play 90% of the season together and rack up 180 points between them. 2. Franzen scores 40 goals and people still b!tch about him. 3. Alfredsson plays under 60 games but still puts up over a point per game. 4. Filppula outscores Weiss during regular season but Weiss turns into a beast in the playoffs, while Filppula watches at home. 5. Helm remains out until December and comes back and plays 40+ games and is healthy for the playoffs. 6. Abdelkader disappoints on the top line and rotates up and down the lineup with Bertuzzi and Cleary. 7. Nyquist and Tatar play 75+ games with the big club and put up 100 points between them. 8. Samuelsson plays less than 20 games and scores less than 10 points. 9. Kronwall has a career year, racking up 55+ points with 30 coming with the man advantage 10. DeKeyser puts up 30+ points while becoming the main shutdown guy and ends up second in Calder voting. 11. Howard has a career year, taking Detroit past the second round and finally gets recognized as a top 5 goalie in the league. 12. Red Wings beat the Maple Leafs 5-4 in overtime on New Years day.

To be honest, I'm going a little stir crazy with the lack of hockey news / talk on the go lately so I just wanted to throw out a trade proposal to stir things up and cause a little controversy. LoL So here it is... To TOR: Jakub Kindl, Xavier Oulette, 2014 conditional draft pick To DET: Cody Franson I got a feeling some people are going to think this is over payment but you need to give up talent to get talent and Franson is the exact type of defenseman this team needs in my opinion. He's a young (25 year old), right handed shooting, big body (6'5", 215lbs.) defenseman that actually uses his big frame to his advantage. He had 124 hits last season, nearly doubling our leading defenseman (Ericsson had 67). There is no doubt we would be giving up some good pieces, but again you have to give to get. Kindl is a very solid defenseman just coming into his prime (just one year older than Franson), Oulette is a very solid prospect that would be difficult to see go but we are extremely deep on defense prospects. We would still have guys like Sproul, Jensen, Almqvist, Backman, Marchenko, etc. soon to be ready to make the jump to the bigs with our already young defense group. Imagine our defense for 2013-14 as... Kronwall - Ericsson DeKeyser - Franson Smith - Quincey Lashoff That is a pretty impressive back end if you ask me... Franson is just entering his prime and coming off a career year so it will definitely cost a nice bit to get this guy, but it could definitely be worth it. I remember watching him in Nashville a few years ago and I loved his game back then and he has only gotten better over the past few years. The biggest problem is making a trade with our soon to be division rival. Both teams would have to be happy with what they're getting in the trade, and it would have to make sense to both teams financially as well, and I think that is the key. The Leafs are in a cap crunch, needng to resign Nazim Kadri (and Franson) so with Kindl signed for the next 4 years at a reasonable $2.4 mil per, it could be a better option than what Franson is looking for (upwards of $4 mil per year). Bring on the controversy!!

Just wondering if anyone knows when the Winter Classic tickets are available to season ticket holders? Does anyone have the tickets in hand yet?

To DET - Zach Bogosian To WPG - Jakub Kindl, Jordin Tootoo, Alexei Marchenko, 2014 2nd. Kronwall - Ericsson DeKeyser - Bogosian Smith - Quincey Lashoff AND / OR To DET - Jarret Stoll To LAK - Patrick Eaves, Joakim Andersson, 2014 3rd. Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Alfredsson Bertuzzi - Weiss - Stoll Nyquist - Franzen - Tatar Abdelkader - Helm - Miller Emmerton

Signed Joakim Andersson re-signs, 2yrs, $1.465m ($732,500k cap hit)
krsmith17 replied to Ram's topic in General
What do you mean you will just "stick with Babcock on this one"?... I guarantee if you asked Babs or any other individual that has watched even a handful of Red Wings games over the past couple years would tell you that Emmerton is way down on the totem pole... The reason he has played the past two years is because we had a lack of center depth two years ago before Andersson came up and last year Helm was injured the entire season. There are now at least 6 better options on the team at center before Emmerton and there are even a couple better options down in Grand Rapids in my opinion. Like I said before, he is still here for one reason and one reason only; his extremely cheap cap hit... And to answer your last question, because he is a natural center, not a winger, he has become very strong in the circle, leading the team in facoff percentage in the playoffs. But you're right, we should slide Andersson to the wing to accommodate for Emmerton, the worst player on the team, hands down... Good call... -

krsmith17 replied to Ram's topic in General
What is with your man crush for "Emdog"? (which is a ridiculous nickname by the way)... Emmerton is a dependable number 5 center for a team that runs into injuries up the middle, that is all he is. Why do you keep trying to say he is anything more than that? He wouldn't be a great 4th line center for a sh*tty team, let alone the Red Wings... Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Weiss, Helm, Abdelkader, Andersson are all better options than him. Hell, I would rather a 4th line centered by Miller or Eaves than Emmerton. The guy is expendable, but the only reason he is and probably will stick around is his ridiculously low cap hit. With everyone healthy you can be guaranteed that he will be sitting in the pressbox... -
As everyone knows, we didn't offer Alan Quine a contract before June 1st, so he was eligible to re-enter this years draft. He was picked up by the Islanders and attended their training camp this week and showed off some pretty slick moves in the shootout... http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?hdpid=49&id=262877〈=en I thought for sure we were going to give this kid a contract but I guess management just didn't see the potential. I still think we should have given him a shot and let someone else go, there were options in someone like Parkes, Coetzee or Raedeke... I'm not saying Quine ever had or has the potential to be a big time player in the NHL but to me, he definitely has a lot more potential then the other guys I listed, younger with more upside in my opinion. Well it wouldn't be the first player let go and it won't be the last, I just hope this one doesn't come to bite them in the @ss. Players that re-enter the draft and turn out to become full-time impact NHLers aren't that plentiful but there are a few. Some of these players include... Craig Anderson (drafted #77 in 1999 by Calgary and then re-drafted #73 in 2001 by Chicago) Nick Boynton (drafted #9 in 1997 by Washington and then re-drafted #21 in 1999 by Boston) Tim Brent (drafted #37 in 2002 by Anaheim and then re-drafted #75 in 2004 again by Anaheim) Matthew Lombardi (drafted #215 in 2000 by Edmonton and then re-drafted #90 in 2004 by Calgary) Nathan Paetsch (drafted #58 in 2001 by Washinton and then re-drafted #202 in 2003 by Buffalo) Jarret Stoll (drafted #46 in 2000 by Calgary and then re-drafted #36 in 2002 by Edmonton) Mike Zigomanis (drafted #64 in 1999 by Buffalo and then re-drafted #46 in 2001 by Carolina) Maybe Quine will turn out to be a Lombardi or Stoll for the Islanders. I personally, wish the kid the best of luck and hope Kenny regrets letting him walk...

Ok, this conversation is over... I'll respond to anyone else on this topic but it has become tiresome... You and other people putting words into my mouth... When in this whole thread did I mention ANYTHING about buying ANYONE out?... LEARN HOW TO READ BEFORE YOU WRITE!!! F*ckin Ridiculous... I said, let these players go because they serve no purpose to the Red Wings other than a roster filler for one of their minor league affiliates, either in Grand Rapids or most likely Toledo... That does not mean they necessarily need to be "bought out".. Teams trade 2 for 1 minor league players all the time to make room for a guy they want to sign.. It isn't rocket science.. How do you not get that a 20 year old kid playing junior has more potential to become something over a 23 year old kid that has failed to adapt at the AHL level? There is no telling where this kid will be in 5 years.. He could be a career minor leaguer or he could be a very solid 3rd or 4th line NHLer... Anyway, you keep twisting the point into something that it isn't and putting words into my mouth so I am actually done with this, you can respond if you want but I won't be opening this thread anymore, so it will be a waste of your time... Go Wings!........
-
Lol.. Thank you. I respect that answer and I agree with it to an extent. I don't think Kenny has or ever will lose any sleep over losing this kid, I'm just saying the possibility is definitely there that he "could", someday. But like you said "Probably not"...
-
You clearly aren't understanding what I'm saying and it boggles my mind how you can miss the point when I said it very clearly over and over again. No, it does NOT matter who they have signed in the past couple years because I said from my very first post that I think they should have kept this kid, and let specific player(s) go... How do you not get that? So what if they signed Chris Connor to a one year, two-way contract 2 years ago... So what if they signed Riley Sheahan to a three year, entry level contract, April of last year... So what if they signed highly touted, free agent Danny DeKeyser to a two year contract, this past March? The point is NONE of these signing have any bearing on signing Quine or any player when I state plain as day that they should have let go one of Parkes, Coetzee or Raedeke... I know, that is very hard to comprehend so I don't even know why I'm bothering with this... He has been compared to Helm, that doesn't necessarily mean they ever expected him to BE Darren Helm. The only reason he was compared to Helm in my opinion was his lightning fast speed. Like I said before, defense can be taught, penalty killing can be taught, so maybe he would have been put into that type of role once he made it pro... LOL... You're trying to tell me you read every post here twice and you come to the conclusion that I think this guy is going to be some kind of star or something? That he will actually have a career like some of the guys I listed? Wow... People really need to learn how to read... I did not once say that he will have a career anywhere near a Lombardi or Stoll or anyone else for that matter... What does the title say?.. "DID we let one get away?" it's a question, not a statement... I have no problem with people voicing their opinion, if you agree with what I'm saying, ok, if you don't, great, let's have a debate, just don't claim to know what is or isn't going to happen... You clearly didn't read everything I said in past posts because someone else brought up the shootout and as I said before, the shootout means nothing to me, it was nothing more than a fun clip. Then you say I should bring up some stats. I listed his career junior stats, as well as his stats since being traded to Bellville... Of course junior stats mean jack, when it comes to making the bigs but I have seen this kid play and to me, he plays with a ton of heart, and I think he will be a solid 3rd or 4th line guy in the NHL one day. But what do I know?... Once again, I am not saying that "we have" lost out on this guy, I am asking "have we?".. and the bottom line is, no one will know for sure for another 5+ years anyway... Someone should just delete this thread because it's pretty clear that everyone is missing the point and misinterpreting everything I am saying... I don't think in any way that Quine is going to be a super star in the NHL, nor am I sure that he will even play a single NHL game. I am not comparing him to any past redrafted players, I am simply pointing out that some of these guys do end up panning out. I am not saying he all of a sudden has star potential because of one shootout move. So stop trying to make something out of nothing. End rant...
