kip clearly has an agenda on this one. He just admitted a few days ago that he doesn't like Fabbri, despite him being one of the more skilled players on the team, and overall seems like a pretty likable player... Also on said agenda, he clearly doesn't like Yzerman as a general manager, and has said as much on several occasions now, along with the rest of the "old boys club" management group in Detroit. There's literally nothing to not like about this contract. Worst case scenario, injuries persist (I doubt it), and he still puts up 30+ points in half seasons for the next two seasons (still worth $2.95M per). Best case scenario, he stays relatively healthy, and becomes the 50 point winger, he has shown he could be (worth much more than $2.95M).
-
Fabbri has twice been on pace for 45-50 point seasons, but somehow he's not worth sub $3M for two seasons? LOL
-
It's a clear sign that he's going to overpay Mantha and Bertuzzi by 2 - 2.5 x what they're worth...
-
MASSIVE overpayment. How will he ever live up to such a lofty contract?... I'm not really that shocked that the dumbass that said "I don't like Robby Fabbri" just a few days ago, is upset with this very reasonable signing though. Fabbri was one of the Wings best players last season, which isn't setting the bar high, but still, it means something. He's a top six winger, and definitely worth this contract. What does he have to do next season to prove it? 30+ points. Since he hit that mark in only 52 games last season, I'm pretty confident he will do so again next season.
-
Love it. Now do Mantha and Bertuzzi...
-
You're not fooling anyone with your sock... Veleno and Rasmussen are somebody's. Perfetti's "poor skating" is being massively overstated. There's also nothing that would indicate that Rossi will translate into an NHL center, but Perfetti won't.
-
Unless BPA happens to be a winger, then you take 2nd or 3rd BPA, because wingers are trash.

Just because there isn't any agreement in that range in mock drafts, doesn't mean each individual organization doesn't have a list they stick to. And I'm sure there are standouts in every tier for each organization. The only time a team should consider positional need is if two players are too similar to otherwise decide. I doubt that's often the case though. The Oilers had bad luck sucking in relatively weak draft years. They also had bad scouting for several years, but even more than that, terrible player development. I'm arrogant with morons like kip, and on the occasion CRL. I'm civil with mostly everyone else here. I'm wrong? Says the guy that still think Filip Zadina was a 6th overall bust... LOL What exactly am I wrong about here? You think teams should draft for need rather than best player available?
-
I don't really think Svechnikov should have to change his game much though, unless he's asked to play a 4th line checking role (which would he dumb). Players should still be able to provide offense from the 3rd line. The issue may be, finding him suitable linemates to play with on the 3rd line...
-
Yeah, teams will still reach for positional need, and those teams will still regret those decisions down the road. The jury is still out on Kotkaniemi and Zadina, but as of now, I would bet on Zadina having the better NHL career, regardless of position. Lafreniere may be the only winger taken in the top 5, but I'll bet at least one other winger will end up being top 5, ahead of some of the highly touted centers from this draft.
-
Not quite Pastrnak, but I'll take Mantha at 20 any day. I assume you're back to talking about Svech here? If so, I agree. I still think he could be a solid 3rd line winger, if he can stay healthy. We need health in Mantha and Svechnikov...

LOL you don't engage me because I make you look like a complete jackass every time you do... Where to even begin here... Except for the fact that Ottawa's board may be (likely is) very different from "everyone" else's board... How dumb do you have to be to think all teams draft the "consensus" best player available, according to Bob McKenzie's final draft rankings... Things are rarely ever "equal" though, and if Yzerman and co. believe that the playmaking winger will have more of an impact than the goal scoring winger, they take that player. The best player available to the Ottawa Senators may very well be Drysdale. And I know it's very difficult for you to comprehend this, but that does not necessarily mean that Drysdale would be the best player available for every other team. Maybe the Ottawa Senators are as dumb as you, and decide to draft based on need, rather than best player available (according to their board), and take Drysdale at 3... "generally considered"... Holy f*** dude, go read some more mock drafts you f***ing simpleton. I'm not going to ask you to stop replying to me, you do what you do, but if you are going to respond, please bring some common sense next time...
-
LOL So you'll take the best goal scoring winger in the draft over the best play-making winger in the draft, blind? A player that scores goals is that much more valuable to you then a player that sets up goals, regardless of the degree of ability from each? You would be an awful scout... The point that Neo was making, that I tend to agree with, is that if Ottawa are set on coming away from this draft with the top defenseman (Drysdale) and a forward (let's say they have two they're relatively equally as high on), and they think there's a chance Detroit could take Drysdale at 4, they would obviously be smart to take Drysdale at 3, and one of their top two ranked forwards at 5. Unless of course, they think Stutzle (or Byfield) is that much better than anyone else. Maybe they do, maybe they don't.
-
Ah, the good ol' days of always drafting in the latter part of the 1st round (if we didn't trade our 1st), and hoping one of those players would be our Pastrnak...
-
Yeah, who wants a player like Mitch Marner or Patrick Kane... Uh, maybe because different teams value different players differently... I'm sure there are teams that would rather Perfetti over your boy Rossi as well (Detroit may be one of them). Does that mean that all teams should rather Perfetti over Rossi? Probably not...
-
Taking Seider at 6 was an off-the-board mistake that seems to be working out quite well (still very early)...
-
A team should always take the best player available, regardless of position. However, it's BPA based on the organizations rankings, not TSN or whatever other rankings we as fans have access to. Assuming Lafreniere, Byfield, Stutzle go 1-2-3, I'm team whoever Yzerman and his scouts deem to be best player available. If they think a winger like Raymond or Holtz is that player, that should be the pick. Teams that draft based on organizational need, are the teams that miss out on better players in the draft. If you can't trust your scouts, hire better scouts... Also, I have no idea why some are so convinced that Rossi will be a center at the NHL level, but Perfetti won't...
-
I'm not too sure what the trades would look like. I'm just pointing out a few of the salary dump players that we could potentially target. As for what we'd have to give up in those trades, nothing. Maybe a late round pick or a nothing prospect. 1st round picks are great, but I'd also be looking at young roster players / prospects.
-
It really doesn't. Why? I have no idea. I'm sure it has something to do with it being a modified, not full, no movement clause. Unless every beat writer and hockey expert is wrong, Nielsen does not have to be protected in the upcoming expansion draft.
-
Vancouver - Eriksson St. Louis - Steen Nashville - Turris Toronto have a lot of expensive contracts, but they don't really have any "bad" contracts that they would want to dump... unfortunately.
-
I didn't really want the Rangers to win it. Would have preferred any of the Western Conference teams, but I'm just happy it's not Toronto. And the fact that they also have to give up their 13th overall to Carolina, makes it that much sweeter...
-
That Stutzle drops to us? I disagree.
-
Just look up any mock expansion draft. There are countless all over the internet by some pretty reputable sources, and I've yet to see a single one with Nielsen protected. He does not need protection, he will not be protected, and he will not be selected, unless an asset is attached.
-
Nielsen definitely 100% does not need to be protected in the upcoming expansion draft. I thought that was common knowledge at this point...
-
I've mentioned it before, but pretty much every single year we see a "consensus" top two or three, and every single year, one of those players drop out of the top two or three. "Something interesting" always happens, and this year it could be Drysdale or Rossi going top three. It's probably not likely that Stutzle drops, but stranger things have happened.
