  1. Biega f***ing sucks. Why is Cholowski scratched over this scrub? Lindstrom has looked good.

I completely agree. However, every player has it's price. It would take an overpayment for sure. What would it take for you to trade him?

Trade deadline bait available this year?

Red Wings last two games: Allow only 4 goals (great by this team's standards)... Score 0 goals (terrible by any team's standards)... Solution: scratch 2nd best offensive defenseman on the team. Plug in mediocre defensive prospect with zero offensive upside...

Exactly. Both, which was my point. Moore is more like Hirose than Ehn. Bold prediction... Moore plays a larger role, and scores more points in LA, than Clifford does in Toronto. Leafs do not re-sign Clifford. If we don't get a 2nd round pick, we don't trade him.

Clifford is also a 4th line guy, albeit 5 year older... A young, undersized skilled winger, that has been great in the AHL, but unable to yet establish himself in the NHL. Who am I describing? Trevor Moore or Taro Hirose?... I'm not "counting on an injury". I'm also not counting on him being traded. I don't think he will be traded, but if a goalie on a contending team gets injured, he could be a candidate to be traded. If he is, we should be looking for a 2nd round pick, at minimum.

A 3rd this year, and a 2nd next year, but yeah, what about it? Yeah, Moore was a throw-in, but he's still a piece that has value. It's similar to if we "threw-in" Hirose to a trade. Still a good player with value. It's not about me "massively overvaluing average players". It's about understanding that "average players" get "overvalued" by NHL general managers every. single. trade deadline... There will be at least 5 trades made at this deadline, where everyone says "Really? X player went for X pick(s) / prospect(s)?"... Maybe Bernier is one of those. If not, he shouldn't be moved. The Leafs were the only team that will be looking for goaltending at the deadline? You sound pretty certain that not a single other goaltender will get injured in the next two plus weeks...

Yeah, I think Bernier's actual value (the way he's playing this season) should be around a 2nd round pick, but his value to this team, is much higher than that. That's not to say I wouldn't accept a 2nd round pick. I probably would, but it would either need to be a high 2nd (32-40 range), or a 2nd plus. There's no way I'd take a 3rd round pick... I didn't forget Clifford. I specifically mentioned him in the above post. The Leafs also gave up Moore. Bernier alone should get us at least a 2nd. To trade him for a 3rd would be dumb. About what I'd expect from someone that massively overvalues mid/late round picks though...

News From Around the NHL *Mod warning page 75*

I know you're trying to be a smartass, but no one said that the Leafs were going to trade for Bernier, or that if we do trade Bernier to whatever team, that he would get us "1st's or 2nd's"... Some thought the Leafs might show interest (maybe they did...), and most think Bernier is worth a 2nd on the open market, and even more than that to this team. Campbell and Bernier have had similar career numbers, slight edge to Campbell. Bernier has been having a better season this year though, on a much worse team. Campbell is three years younger. The Leafs traded a 24 year old Trevor Moore for a 29 year old Kyle Clifford, which looks like it could be a good trade off for both sides. They also gave a 2020 3rd round pick, 2021 conditional 3rd round pick (that becomes a 2nd if Clifford re-signs OR they make the playoffs this season, and Campbell gets 6 regular season wins), so basically a 2021 2nd... So if both goalies should have approximately the same market value, and Campbell got a 3rd this year and a 2nd next year, do you still not think it's reasonable for our ask for Bernier to be a 2nd, maybe a 2nd+ this year?

Mantha might be done for the year - what now

Yeah, some are calling him injury prone, but I don't really buy that. If he kept having the same recurring injury, then yeah, maybe, but every injury has been different. I consider that to be more of a string of bad luck, similar to Helm a few years ago. He just needs to stop fighting, which kinda sucks, because I wanted nothing more than for him to become a Shanahan type power-forward, that can beat you with his skill and fists. He's going to have to leave that to the Witkowski's / McIlrath's of the team...

    2019-20 Prospects Thread

I don't understand the need to bring Zadina up here, but yes, I am that excited about Zadina, and he's looked great so far in the NHL. I'm just happy you didn't call him "Zagina"... Progress. The kid must be growing on you... Oh, I agree. I haven't ruled out steady shut-down 3rd pair defenseman, but unfortunately, I think that may be his ceiling. Every team needs those guys though, so hopefully he gets there.

I'm not that high on Lindstrom, but still excited to see how he looks in the NHL.

Trade deadline bait available this year?

Absolutely. Like I said, no GM would be targeting Hirose in a trade, but say Holland is interested in Green, but only willing to give up a 3rd round pick. Maybe he'd be willing to up that to a 2nd round pick, if Yzerman throws in a mid level prospect (like Hirose)... Like who?
  13. krsmith17

Trade deadline bait available this year?

You're talking to a guy that massively overvalues all draft picks... I agree that there's no rush in moving Hirose, but I do think there's some value there. His production in the NHL has been decent, considering his role and linemates, and he's been really good in the AHL, one of the better Griffins' forwards this season. I doubt many teams would have much interest in him specifically, but maybe he could be added in as a sweetener in some deadline trade...

    Huh? Comparables for who?

Trade deadline bait available this year?

I definitely agree, but can we afford to give up Bernier right now? He's basically been this team's only hope any given night. I know everyone is all about the tank, but this could get a lot worse without Bernier between the pipes... I think a 2nd round pick is pretty fair value, but I also don't know if I'd do it for that right now... Maybe...?

Trade deadline bait available this year?

I agree. I'm not saying I'd make any of those trades. That's just what I believe their market value is, give or take... Of the trades I listed, I'm only really interested in trading the three UFA's (Green, Daley, Howard). I'd also consider the Helm and Ehn trades. Any of the other players, I'd want more than teams would likely be willing to give up.

Trade deadline bait available this year?

All depends on the team and whether or not we retain salary, but... Athanasiou - 2nd round pick + prospect Filppula - 2nd round pick Glendening - 2nd round pick Helm - 3rd round pick Ehn - 4th round pick Svechnikov - similar prospect Green - 3rd round pick Daley - 6th round pick Howard - 5th round pick ... give or take...

is there anything "good" about the Wings?

For sure, because he's having a bad season, like most of the team. Last season, there was no doubt, he was a legit 1C. This season, everyone is questioning it, which is understandable I guess. He needs to be much better, and he will be much better. Even at his peak, I doubt he'll be an elite 1C, but still a top 15-25C in the league.

Trade deadline bait available this year?

We're really going down the rabbit hole now, but yeah, I think if Helm were 29, instead of 33, and making $1.85M, instead of $3.85M, he could easily fetch a 1st round pick from a desperate team at the deadline. Age and contract obviously play a major factor. Regardless, we're not talking about an aging, bottom six winger on a bad contract. We're talking about a good middle six winger, in his prime on a reasonable contract that extends into next season. Again... Is Gusev worth a 1st round pick? Probably not. Is it possible that Gusev could fetch a 1st round pick at the trade deadline? Absof***inglutely...

Trade deadline bait available this year?

Oh ok, "teams have wised up" between 2018 to 2019. Got it... "This is expected to be one of the better drafts in some time"... Meaning: The top half of the first round is really good. What nyquististhefuture thinks that means: The entire draft is really good (even the later rounds)... LOL the fact that you think ANY player in the ENTIRE league CAN'T fetch a 1st round pick, after Ryan f***ing Reaves fetched a 1st round pick, just two years ago means we should just stop talking about this...
  21. krsmith17

is there anything "good" about the Wings?

This is rock bottom. Steady, gradual improvement from here on out. 2019-20 - dead last, by a mile 2020-21 - bottom 5 2021-22 - bubble team 2022-23 - playoff team 2023-24 - contender
  22. krsmith17

Trade deadline bait available this year?

Last year there were no similar trades for 1st round picks made. The year before, there were 5 similar trades made for 1st round picks. So yes, they are still being made, because dumb desperate GM's will always exist. No, Armia is not having a better season than Gusev. Gusev - 0.65 PTS/G Armia - 0.61 PTS/G Yes, Armia could fetch a 1st round pick at the deadline. Again, worse players have gone for much more...
  23. krsmith17

Trade deadline bait available this year?

The fact that anyone here would think he CAN'T land a 1st is ludicrous...

Trade deadline bait available this year?

Exactly. So could Gusev fetch a 1st rounder? Absolutely.
