    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

Yes, and that was just in response to you saying we could get a 2nd round pick for Leddy at next year's trade deadline... I'm not against the acquisition at all. I like it. I'm not against giving up assets in trades. I just think Yzerman should have been able to get it done cheaper, since Lamoreillo had to trade Leddy or lose him for nothing. That's it.

    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

We likely wouldn't have gotten a defenseman as good, for the same price, in the same age as Leddy. I've never said otherwise. We could however, have gotten a defenseman that would garner a 2nd round pick at next year's trade deadline. Not even remotely the same thing... but yeah, keep trying to spin s*** like you always do... If you're referring to me, I think you're confusing this back and forth with me being "bothered" by this deal... I'm not at all. I've said as much countless times now. Leddy is a really good player that fills a direct need. You can like the acquisition and still think it was a (bit of an) overpayment. Both can be true. Literally. no. one. is. complaining. about. the. acquisition. of. Leddy...

Seattle Expansion Draft: Who you pick?

Or maybe (hopefully) a third line center...

    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

I know right? It's crazy that anyone would say otherwise... Oh wait, no one did say otherwise... I've yet to see a single person here (or anywhere) complain about the addition of Leddy. Some, rightfully so, just believe it was a bit of an overpayment. Not a big deal...

    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

I don't think anyone is saying that though... In this particular case, the Islanders had to trade Leddy, or lose him for nothing. I just think Yzerman should have been able to get it done without eating salary on Panik. The only negative in getting rid of Panik, is using a retention on that contract. I assume if we flip Leddy, we would eat a portion of his contract. That leaves us with only one more retention on a contract. Maybe we wouldn't need any more than that anyway, but it does limit our options a little. I would like to see Yzerman make another Savard type trade, and eat salary that way. There also might be some interest in a DeKeyser at 50% retained if he can have a bit of a bounce back season. We won't be able to do both now, even if the opportunity presents itself.

There will be other veteran defensemen available in free agency, without giving up any assets, that also could have been flipped at next year's trade deadline for a 2nd (maybe even 1st) round pick. There are also other factors at play, besides the pick. The one less protection spot, and the used retention spot factor into the trade as well. Regardless, I'm okay with the trade. I don't think it was a huge loss by any stretch, but I don't think many people would consider Yzerman the winner of that trade *today*.

    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

That's assuming we get a 1st round pick. That's no guarantee... IF we get a 1st round pick at next year's trade deadline, everyone will obviously be thrilled with the trade(s)...

Seattle Expansion Draft: Who you pick?

Seattle are going to be better than Vegas...

Seattle Expansion Draft: Who you pick?

Cholowski is only 8 months older than Lindstrom, and in my opinion has the higher ceiling of the two. I think Cholowski would have been the better protection, but whatever. I agree.

Seattle Expansion Draft: Who you pick?

Yeah, I personally would have protected Cholowski over both, and Stecher over Lindstrom, but oh well. Regardless, we're not losing a significant piece. I just hope they take a forward (Namestnikov)...

For sure. And I don't even hate the trade. I like the addition of Leddy.

Seattle Expansion Draft: Who you pick?

Stecher and Cholowski exposed... Really surprised they protected Lindstrom over Cholo...

Seattle Expansion Draft: Who you pick?

Looks like Stecher is exposed? I assume he will be the Seattle pick...

Not a cap dump? Would you prefer "expansion draft dump"? Regardless how you want to term it, the Islanders had to "dump" Leddy, or lose him for nothing to Seattle. I think Lamoriello won this trade. It's not a big deal. Hopefully Yzerman can recoup some assets at the deadline (if he's not planning on extending him).

    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

Absolutely. Which is why I think Yzerman may have overpaid. I like the acquisition of Leddy, I just didn't / don't really like the price we paid to get him. Leddy also isn't near the caliber player as Price is goaltender. I wouldn't be at all shocked if Price is in Seattle next season. Yup, really solid player, and if he were a UFA I'd be thrilled with the addition. I don't like that we had to give up a 2nd round pick for a "cap dump". I don't like that we acquired the player before the expansion draft, losing another protection spot. And I don't like that we lost a contract retention on Panik. Regardless, Yzerman got his guy, and Leddy should be a very good player for us, and mentor to the young defensemen. If he does have a strong season (I think he will), I'd definitely be open to signing him to a 2-3 year contract extension. Cool. 100 bucks says I wouldn't have...

    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

I literally said that I would protect Leddy over Stecher. But yes, I would consider leaving Leddy exposed if I thought Seattle would pass on him. Unlikely, but Stecher may be more attractive, being three years younger, and nearly $4M cheaper. Do you think Montreal leaving Price exposed "makes sense"? It all depends how the rest of that team is constructed. Will they prefer the higher cap hit to get to the floor, or lower cap hit to stay under the cap? Will they have mostly left-handed defensemen and prefer the righty? Maybe they already have a ton of defensemen and take a forward from Detroit regardless who's available on D... A lot of teams will leave some better players exposed for various reasons, be it age, contract, etc... Oh yeah, clearly disappointed... "Basically Svechnikov and 52nd overall... Would have been a nice addition to the blueline... Oh well..." People should be allowed to change their mind, without idiots like yourself getting on them about it. But that's you... Truth is, that was my initial reaction to the trade, thinking Graves was quite a bit younger. I thought he was more in the 23-24 range, not 26. Regardless, after thinking about it some more, I wouldn't have been too happy with the Graves trade. I'm not thrilled with the Leddy trade either, but it at least makes some sense.
  19. krsmith17

    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

Yeah, Graves isn't great. Leddy is much better, but also older, and more expensiveI in terms of cap hit and cost to acquire (albeit not by much). I don't love the Leddy trade, but really, I probably wouldn't have been overly thrilled with that Graves trade either. The biggest reason being the affect both trades would / will have on the expansion draft. I wanted to protect both Stecher and Cholowski. I still would have if we traded for Graves, which would have made that trade really dumb. I still want to protect both over Leddy as well, but that won't happen, and I get it because of the asset(s) we should get at next year's trade deadline. I think if either Stecher or Cholowski are exposed, either would be the Seattle pick. I guess at this point I'd like to see Hronek, Cholowski and Leddy protected, and hope they take Namestnikov over Stecher...

Seattle Expansion Draft: Who you pick?

I'd protect both Stecher and Cholowski over Lindstrom. But yeah, I don't like this move for the expansion draft... Zadina is exempt from the expansion draft. I think that last spot will go to Erne.

    2021 Off-Season (Too Soon?)

Yeah, this is where I'm at as well. I don't hate the addition of Leddy, but there were cheaper options going to be available in free agency. If we were adding assets, great, otherwise should have waited until after the expansion draft / free agency. This also puts another wrinkle in the protection list for D. Two of Stecher, Cholowski and Lindstrom will be exposed. Also retaining salary on Panik. I can't help but think Yzerman may have lost this trade. The only way to get back in the win column is if Leddy is flipped for a 2nd (or 1st) round pick at the deadline...

    Rumors Thread

It was slightly tongue in cheek... Friedman is one of the better insiders out there. I was more so implying that no one knows what Yzerman is doing. I obviously don't think I know more than Friedge, or anyone else in hockey circles. However, I believe Yzerman when he says he's not looking to acquire older players on long term contracts. Hyman makes zero sense for the Wings right now...

    Cholowski Sucks

I'd like to see Svech get one more look this season, but wouldn't be the biggest loss. I like Namestnikov, but he's who I'm hoping Seattle take (out of the realistic options)...

    Rumors Thread

LOL says the guy that brings up Smith or Jurco in every other thread... Friedman doesn't know s***. Pure speculation. Yzerman is not signing Hyman. Unless he's willing to come here short-term at a significantly lower cap hit. Not going to happen. Otherwise he'd just stay in Toronto...
