Trade deadline bait available this year?

I think we should start a thread on day two of the draft specifically dedicated to that 4th round pick we traded away. We all say who we want with that pick, and revisit the thread in 3-5 years to see if any of us would have hit on our pick... Kaski sucks. I like Regula too. I thought he could be a real candidate for our 3rd pair on the right side. If he does make it, he probably won't slot higher than that though. And those guys can be found any year via free agency...
  2. We have a TON of bottom six forwards. None of which are as good as Jarnkrok. I'm pretty sure he's also the only right-handed forward we've drafted since Steve Yzerman... No need to check that. It's true... Seriously though, this team could definitely use a Jarnkrok right now. Huge upgrade over Filppula / Nielsen...

Trade deadline bait available this year?

In hindsight, I agree. Though I don't fault Yzerman for making any of them. They were all low risk trades. You make enough, and at least one should work out. It did, better than any of us could have expected. And really, what we lost probably would have never amounted to much anyway. The 4th round pick likely wouldn't have amounted to much, if anything. David Pope is a career minor leaguer. Alec Regula may or may not become an NHL defenseman. de la Rose sucks. Vili Saarijarvi is a career minor leaguer. Oliwer Kaski is also likely a career minor league, or back to Europe.

Still upset about not re-claiming Comrie? Let it go dude. It likely won't set us back too much...

Athanasiou for a 1st. Oilers miss the playoffs. Win draft lottery with Oilers pick...

    2020 Draft Thread

    Hakan Andersson.
  7. He was also only 22 at the time of the trade. At a time when we "overriped" every single prospect. It was a terrible trade at the time and in hindsight. Legwand - 11 points for the Red Wings Jarnkrok - 176 points for Nashville There was also a 2nd round pick lost in that trade, which could have been another player...

    Babs got fired

If you're talking about Lidstrom. Yes. Kindl. No. Babcock. F*** NO!

Trade deadline bait available this year?

Ryan Kuffner was a throw in, not a piece that I'd expect the Bruins or any team to have much interest in. I don't think it's fair to lump Athanasiou and Fabbri together, but if their perceived value is a 2nd round pick (I agree, it probably wouldn't be much higher at this point), I don't move them. To be honest, I don't think I'd move either for a late 1st (26-31) right now. Hold on to both, and re-sign them this offseason. If Fabbri keeps up his current play, he's a part of the future. If Athanasiou rebounds, he could be a very good (better) trade piece next season. I agree. Maybe Kuffner doesn't get it done, but if we're taking on two years of Backes ($6M), from a team that is desperate to free up cap space, I'm not giving up much more than that. Maybe a mid round pick...

    2020 Draft Thread

It's possible that this whole discussion, although fun, could be wasted time and energy... Has the Draft Lottery date been announced yet? It was April 9th last year. So still another 10 weeks of uncertainty... I don't know that we will get the 1st overall pick, but I'm pretty confident, despite the slight odds, that we won't drop to 4th. If we manage to get a top 2 pick I'll be happy. And if that is the case, there will be little discussion on who we should take...

I would have loved to see Yzerman pull off that Marleau trade too, but chances are, the Leafs weren't willing to trade their 1st round pick to a divisional rival. As for Backes and the Bruins situation, they want to trade him prior to the deadline, so they can add a significant piece for a playoff run. They should be just as desperate to move Backes, as the Leafs were to move Marleau. They have no cap space, and I'm sure they will want to add, with every other team around them likely adding at the deadline. You cannot buy a player out midseason, and waiving him, sending him down to Providence only saves them a hair over a $1M. Getting rid of that full $6M for this year, and next year, without having to use a buyout, should be well worth a 1st round pick to a team in their Cup window. This may be Chara's last season, and Bergeron and Marchand aren't getting any younger. They should be going for it now.

Is there any chance we could get a 1st round pick out of that deal? I mean, Carolina got a 1st for Marleau, and he only had this season left on his contract, compared to Backes still having a season and a half left on his, at basically the same cap hit... To DET: David Backes, 1st round pick To BOS: Ryan Kuffner
  14. You're not as dumb as you look...
  15. You're finally starting to get it...
  16. We could yeah, but like I said, he would have to be exposed to waivers again. At which point, maybe Boston re-claims him. If not, we send him to Grand Rapids, and all is good. Would have been a good move by Yzerman, especially if he were a couple years younger.
  17. No we couldn't. You need to brush up on your waiver wire rules... If we claim a player, he needs to stay on our roster, or be exposed to waivers once again.

    2020 Draft Thread

What the f*** are you talking about? I've explicitly said the exact opposite... I've even gone as far as to say that if Lafreniere wanted to, he could be an elite center...
  19. If the exact same sequence of events that happened with Comrie, happened with Ritchie (trade for, waive, not re-claim), I would be saying the same thing. We should have re-claimed him, and sent him directly to Grand Rapids. Yes, instead of Tangradi, or Elson, or Shine, or whoever... Can we please discuss this for the next 12 pages?
  20. Was there a young player as good as Tangradi exposed to waivers? If so, who? Also, if so, absof***inglutely...
  21. Poulin hadn't played a single game for the Griffins at the time Comrie was placed on waivers. He was literally signed a day or two earlier. Maybe if that didn't happen, this would have all played out differently. I'm more than okay with Poulin, but I'd take the equally good, younger player every single time. I would have been okay with a Ho-Sang signing, but the attitude issues is why I wasn't all that interested.

    2019-20 Prospects Thread

I think McIsaac will be an NHL defenseman, but I'm not sure if he'll be anything more than a bottom pairing defenseman. Maybe that changes, if he can stay healthy and start putting up big numbers again... He was pretty underwhelming at the WJC...

    2019-20 Prospects Thread

I hope Lindstrom can become a solid 3rd pair defenseman, but I see him as a Marchenko 2.0.

    Care to explain?
  25. I know you wouldn't care if Tangradi got hit by a bus, but he's actually a very good AHL forward, and one of the better forwards on the Griffins. People wanted to claim Josh Ho-Sang earlier this season? Why didn't you ask them the same dumb questions over and over and over and over again? My question for you is, why do you care so much if I think we should have re-claimed Comrie? Regardless if you disagree, is there any need of stretching this out to 5 pages? Who gives a s***? Comrie is gone. drop it dude...
