Why would Buffalo have any interest in Howard (pending UFA, and one of the worst goalies in the league this season), when they have no chance of making the playoffs? I'm assuming they'll just call up Johansson, and roll him with Hutton for the remainder of the season. That's also assuming that the Ullmark injury is significant. At this point, I don't even think we'd get a 6th round pick for Howard, and if that's the case, I'd just assume keep him around for the remainder of this season, and let him retire a Red Wing *in a couple months time*...

Wings trade with Coyotes for G Eric Comrie, trade D Vili Saarijarvi

Sure. And Yzerman / Martin obviously felt we should add a goaltender, which is why they signed Poulin. I think they should have claimed the 24 year old Comrie over signing the 29 year old Poulin that has bounced around Russia, Austria, Switzerland and Germany the past 4 seasons... Why is this such an contentious issue with you? We disagree. Get the f*** over it... -
Mantha might be done for the year - what now

You kind of are though... Everyone: "Zadina has been better offensively this season". (all situations) CRL: "No he hasn't. Fabbri has been better at 5-on-5". But you're not saying power-play stats don't get thrown out the window? Okay... So I guess that makes McDavid the 6th best player in the league offensively... -

Neither tell the whole story, but no stat really does. SV% is still much more accurate than GAA in my opinion. GSAA is probably one of the more telling goalie stats, but as far as I know, they don't track that in the AHL. Regarding the bold... Both are on bad team (Comrie slightly worse), and as CRL pointed out, they have virtually the same SV%, but the two Griffins goalies have better GAA. -

Howard - 35 (UFA) Bernier - 31 (1 year left) Pickard - 27 (1 year left) Nagle - 32 (AHL only deal) Poulin - 29 (AHL only deal) We could have added a 24 year old, that is just as good as those late 20, early 30 year olds, with room to grow. Whatever. It is what it is. I think it's time for you to let it go... I'm sure you won't though... -

Good players also produce a lot on the power-play. You don't discount a player's offensive ability, just because he gets points on the power-play. Almost half of McDavid's 76 points this season have come on the power-play. So what? I never suggested otherwise. -

Yeah, I'm digging a pretty big hole by suggesting we should have claimed a free asset to add to a depleted position in the organization... -

There's nothing you're saying that I "don't understand". You're argument is just dumb... You're saying that the power-play should not be taken into account when discussing a players offensive ability, because it's a smaller part of the game. It's still a very important part of the game. How often do we hear, "special teams win hockey games"? You need to have a good power-play and a good penalty kill to be good hockey team. The Red Wings power-play has not been near good enough. Zadina has been a bright spot on an otherwise terrible power-play (without Mantha). This is also an extremely small sample size. Zadina has about half of his points on the power-play so far this season. Do you think that's going to maintain longterm? I doubt it. Power-play points matter and should absolutely be taken into account when discussing how offensively talented a player is. I don't know why I got involved in this to begin with, and why I'm still discussing it at this point. We don't agree and we won't agree. Leave it at that. -

Small sample size. I'm sure Yzerman knew it would only be a 0.01% upgrade though... -

The power-play is part of a players offensive stats though. That's why your argument is dumb. I'm done with this. -

Classy. You're missing the point though. If you can upgrade the organization, especially one that severely lacks depth at a particular position, you do it, no matter how big or small the upgrade might be. The Tangradi signing was a great move, just like a Comrie claim would have been in my opinion. You disagree. Whatever. -

krsmith17 replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
Exactly. He's been "slightly" better so far. GAA to goalies is as useless a stat as +/- is to players. It's a team stat. SV% is the much more telling stat. Exactly. Wasn't it nice to get an Eric Tangradi back for free? Imagine if he was in his early 20's, Yzerman had the opportunity to pick him up for free, but passed because we already have Matt Puempel / Chris Terry... -
Not even close to fair value... unless that "???" is a 2nd round pick... In which case, I'd say no on any of those prospects... Again, not even close to fair value... Athanasiou should be back in the coming week(s) (before the deadline).

Yzerman is a genius. Comrie has only been slightly better over the extremely small sample size. If we could get a slightly better, younger version of Matt Puempel for free, should we do it? Or nah? We don't need that, because we already have a Matt Puempel... -

Fact of the matter is Zadina has been better offensively (all situations). WHICH WAS THE ORIGINAL POINT! bUt FaBbRi ScOrEs MoRe At EvEn StReNgTh. WHO CARES? The only reason not to include power-play time when discussing offensive production, is if one player is getting significantly more power-play minutes. That isn't the case. As a matter of fact, Fabbri is getting slightly more even strength time as well as power-play time on ice per game. bUt FaBbRi ScOrEs MoRe At EvEn StReNgTh. -

Whatever you say man... Who has scored more at even strength since Zadina has been up (which, by the way, was the original point...)? Zadina. It's also hilariously dumb to only look at even strength. Since when does power-play production not matter? If Zadina were better on the power-play and even strength (which will likely be the case soon enough), but Fabbri scored more in the 2nd period, I'm sure you would be saying "bUt FaBbRi Is BeTtEr In 2nD pErIoDs"... -
Not gonna happen this month...

BUT YOU WOULD CARE IF HE PUT UP SIGNIFICANT POINTS IN STL... You "don't care", because those numbers skew his totals in a way that don't support your argument. This all started because someone said Zadina has been better than Fabbri since being up with the Wings. That is true, and it does matter. No amount of your mental gymnastics is gonna change that LOL. -

Fabbri was often scratched with the Blues, but was never on their 4th line. He spent the majority of his time on the 3rd line with Bozak at center, and one of Sanford, Steen, or Thomas on the other wing. Zadina wasn't ever scratched, but constantly being sent up and down can have a similar effect. He played mostly on the Wings "2nd" and 3rd line to start, but with lesser linemates than Fabbri ever had in St. Louis, with one of Filppula or Nielsen at center, and one of Helm, Erne or Glendening on the other wing. Since being promoted and playing with mostly capable linemates, Zadina has been very good (better than Fabbri) by just about every metric. Zadina is better than Fabbri now, and will likely be MUCH better in the future. That should be exciting as a Red Wings fan, unless it means you might be wrong apparently... -

Pff 106mph? Marty Frk destroyed that... -
I'm not sure what games you've been watching but he's been one of the Wings few bright spots this season. For a team that struggles to produce offense, he's been one of the best most games. The raw stats, as well as advanced stats support my "fan boy" view with my "rose colored glasses". There's absolutely nothing that supports your irrational extreme bias against Zadina... Zadina just turned 20 years old, is over half a point per game on a historically bad team. He's absolutely a top six winger at this point, and will likely become a legitimate top line winger in the future. Keep hating on one of our best young building blocks though. Soon you will have lost all credibility with your dumb "Zadina is a bust" rants...

I agree. The only thing I'd prefer over 2. is North America vs World, like they did back in '98. Might actually get some competitive hockey again that way...
