Trade deadline bait available this year?

Explain the upside in keeping Howard and Bernier... There is none. They both suck. Comrie has sucked so far, but is at least young enough that he could have become a part of the future. Even if you put that at 5-10%, that's still much higher than the 0% that Howard / Bernier are part of the future... I don't get this at all. Sure, in hindsight maybe Yzerman should have kept figuratively nothing, over literally nothing, but losing Saarijarvi does not hurt us in any way.

    Fabbri or Zadina?

I don't think Fabbri will ever play much center. I see him as more of a middle six winger. Zadina, top six winger.

2nd or 3rd round? You're either trolling hard, have never seen the kid play, or dumb as bricks... or a combination of all three... Hasn't lived up to his draft billing? You really are clueless as to what to expect from a 6th overall pick... I wouldn't even say that is being overly optimistic though... He absolutely has high end potential. Very few fans realistically thought he was going to be an elite scoring winger. I've always said and still believe he could get there, but realistically he'll end up being a very good top six winger. That's about what you can expect from a 6th overall pick. If Zadina ends up being a Tatar, I'd be a little disappointed. But in no way is that a "bust" pick. Like I've always said though, Tatar is Zadina's floor. His ceiling is still MUCH higher than that in my opinion.

How so? We may pick 4th, but Lafreniere is still going to be an elite, borderline generational player for whichever team is lucky enough to win the draft lottery...

Trade deadline bait available this year?

This is the second time you've said this, and again, there is not a single person getting "worked" about this. We're simply discussing it. This is a "discussion board", afterall... Pretty much everyone has echoed the same opinion - the move made little sense, but at the end of the day, it's not really a big deal.

Trade deadline bait available this year?

I completely agree that we should have given Comrie a longer look. There were other options than just waiving him after two games. I just don't look at the trade as a negative, regardless how the situation ended up playing out. Saarijarvi was a nothing prospect. No loss there.

There's no reason to believe he will be any better than any other top of the draft winger... DURRRR...

12/21 Burn GDT - Red Wings @ Maple Leafs - 7:00 PM ET

Wings will win this one. Bernier will be the number one star and Hutchinson will s*** the bed... That's what needs to happen... I foolishly bet on this one, like every Wings vs Leafs game...

Trade deadline bait available this year?

I think it's more reasonable to assume that Yzerman already knew he wasn't part of the future, even before trading for him. I don't think he and his pro scouts thought, "maybe there's something there", after watching him play the past couple seasons, and then said "there's nothing there", after two games in Detroit. There was no gamble in the trade whatsoever. The only gamble was in waiving him.

This is pretty common knowledge man... I guess you'd actually have to watch games and follow the team closely to be aware of things like that though...

Trade deadline bait available this year?

Saarijarvi had no value, and wasn't a part of the future. Losing Comrie, likely wasn't either, but I would have preferred to keep him over one of Howard / Bernier, who definitely aren't a part of our future...

    Fabbri or Zadina?

I didn't think either of us needed to get into paragraphs... Apparently you did... I'm 6 beer deep right now, so I'll just say agree to disagree on the hockey IQ. I think that's one of Zadina's biggest strengths. He thinks the game at a high level on both sides of the puck.

    Fabbri or Zadina?

I don't think either of us need to get into paragraphs. It's been done several times now, and neither are going to change the others mind. We'll just have to wait for Zadina to prove one of us right (me) / wrong (you)... His compete? He back checks hard / plays hard every shift. That, you've admitted yourself. Something Hudler never really did much of. His hockey IQ? That's a little harder to describe, but just making the right plays and being in the right spots more often than not. Two of these attributes have been used to describe Zadina by much smarter people than myself...

    Fabbri or Zadina?

The bold is exactly my point. THAT'S why you made the comparison once again. Make sure it was fresh in everyone's minds... Harsh? Yes. Fair? No. The only similarities between Zadina and Hudler is that they are left-handed wingers from the Czech Republic, drafted by the Detroit Red Wings. Hudler didn't crack the Wings full time until his age 22 season. Zadina is doing it 2 years younger and so far has much better production. Zadina is also a lot more of a complete player at the age of 20, than Hudler ever was throughout his career. Also, much higher hockey IQ. Hurdler's last season in Detroit is Zadina's floor. Hudler's 3rd season in Calgary is around what I expect out of Zadina through his prime years.

    Fabbri or Zadina?

Everyone knows what you think of Zadina. I was posting the above for those that haven't been blinded by their own bias against him since being drafted. You still felt the need to repeat the same drivel, to be sure that everyone knows "why" Zadina is about to / continue to put up some big points. Zadina puts up 12 points in the next 10 games... "It's because he's playing on the top line with Larkin and Mantha. Zadina sux!"...

Beautiful goal by Berggren (#26), 3rd goal at 22 seconds...

    Fabbri or Zadina?

I'm well aware. Everyone is well aware. But yet, you felt the need to repeat it once again, after Zadina was promoted to the top line.

    Fabbri or Zadina?

In other words... "Zadina's about to tear s*** up, so I better get ahead of it, and come up with an excuse as to why before it happens"... Zadina >>> Hudler

    Fabbri or Zadina?

Zadina promoted to top line... I'd like to see Athanasiou between Bertuzzi and Fabbri, and Perlini up with Filppula and Glendening...

    2019-20 Prospects Thread

Veleno is the 1C, on a line with future Red Wing Lafreniere, and McIsaac is the 1D. Berggren is also listed as Sweden's 2RW. Seider will be Germany's 1D. This should be a fun tournament to watch for Red Wings fans.

Fair enough. I would have liked to see another dozen or so games this season, but if Yzerman waived him, he must be trash...

    General Rebuild Discussion Thread

Playing with better players makes you better, not worse. It's a very simple concept... If Fabbri is our 3rd line winger, and other teams have to match up against what we hope (you assume) will be two monster top six lines, he will easily be a 45-55 point middle six winger. Also, I wouldn't assume that any of the guys you mention are necessarily going to push Fabbri out of the top six. Perlini has been a 30ish point (pace) producer every year he's been in the league. He's currently on an 8 point pace, playing on by far THE worst line in the entire league. I've never said Perlini is this top line sniper or anything. I think he has the (proven) potential to be a very solid middle six winger that can put up 30+ points in the right situation. Those players are valuable. Especially one's that can skate with his size. Sounds about right... nitf logic...

I'll once again point to Jordan Binnington. You're likely right that Comrie won't amount to much at the NHL level, but I wouldn't right him off at the age of 24. He's been good to great everywhere else in his career. He's also said to be very smart and always willing to learn new techniques to improve his game. Anyway, it is what it is. I'll be rooting for him in Winnipeg. Seems like a good kid.
