Smith's got a world of potential, don't get me wrong. I just would prefer the organization doesn't rush him in if they don't have to. Smith will be up in due time and if he really impresses in training camp he'll be on the team. But in case he doesn't, there's nothing wrong with the current signings to plug the leaks until he's ready...or until the wings have the opportunity to chase an elite defenseman worth a hefty payment.

Wiz and Ehrhoff demanded too much money and too long of a deal. Holland didn't want to handcuff the future of the team with overpayment to overrated guys. The White and even Commodore signings seem very logical and i'm very happy with what Holand did given the situation presented. There will be better options available in the future and Kenny knows that, no need to blow money all over the place just because we have it. And I don't feel like Smith is NHL ready, another year in GR most certainly won't hurt.

Is this going to be enough to put the Caps over the top? Adding Halpern, Ward, and Vokoun seems like a solid offseason thusfar! Oh and Hamrlik too!

All we would have to give up is hudler, kindle, and a first rounder too. Kenny is the most passive GM in the world, what the hell is he doing!?!

And to think ehrhoff has a 4 mil cap hit...

I love Ehrhoff and think he would be a great fit for the team. He's offensively gifted and the only thing I wish he had was a right handed shot. He's got a pretty healthy bill too and that's awfully attractive. Call me superstitious but I feel like Wiz would be injury prone if he came to motown :/

Yeah, good call on Wilson. But I agree, I'm sure that someone other than Kenny will be throwing huge offer sheets at Doughty and Stamkos!

Eaves is the perfect role player imo. The guy does it all and is a hell of a hockey player! Plus he's only in his late twenties, he's got plenty of hockey left in him.

Despite the poor playoff performance Ehrhoff has been a solid defenseman for the canucks, I feel like he would make quite an impact in detroit. I like him more than bieksa and I feel like he's a safer pickup then Wiz. If the guy is willing to sign for less than 5 mil then I say get it done. If we could pull Wiz and Ehrhoff this offseason for around 8-10 mil our defense would be rock solid! Forget the top 6 forward, fill up front from within the org and sign these two.

I also agree. I feel the mule's contract is going to bite us in the future. And I also feel we could get some great things back for him. But would we really want to deal him during nick's potential last year? And Z and Pavel aren't exactly getting younger. This move would take us out of contention imo and also signal the official rebuilding phase of the detroit red wings for the first time in however long. So this being said, I find it unlikely :/ looks like we'll just have to eat his contract.

One could always dream though... Haha I don't think it's nearly as absurd as the cries for Shea Weber. But I agree, it is unlikely to happen.

Is SJ losing anyone this offseason besides White? Their D was solid and now they're replacing White with Burns...damn. I really hope Kenny's got a plan...
