Wings sign D Ian White to 2-year, $5.75m contract
Agalloch93 replied to germanwing's topic in General
Yeah there was definitely no chance of this ever happening despite Holland's comments about how ready it was. Last time a Red Wings prospect only played one or less years in the AHL was Zetterberg. Might as well let him put up 15 goals, 50 points in the AHL then be a contender for the Calder the year after. -

I thought this was seven? Lidstrom, Kronwall, Stuart, White, Ericsson, Commodore, Kindl Unless you're including Janik. Janik will not be on the team, I can guarantee you that. -

Around 6 million. Some of that will go to a backup G. Probably 4.5 or so left with a full roster, not sure if he'll save that for the deadline or try to do something else. -

... White is better defensively than Rafalski. Nowhere near as good offensively, but better defensively. -

You don't know anything about hockey, do you? Leafs fans, and especially Sharks fans LOVED having White. He's a very, very solid d-man and for this price, it's an absolute steal. Terrific signing, one of the best of the FA period considering how short the term is and how cheap the amount is. -

Wow, I'm not a huge Ian White fan, but that is an absolute ******* bargain. Fantastic dollar amount there. -
REALLY? You're REALLY going to compare Holland to the team that has a payroll of 220 million dollars? Unbelievable. Anyone that has half a brain will tell you Holland is a better GM than Cashman, Cashman makes some HORRIBLE moves (AJ Burnett, Rafael Soriano, countless others).
-
Sigh, sorry, but I really don't think you understand how to value players.
-
Yes, they signed him in 2008 to the 2008-2009 roster. Excellent post, though. It's pretty impressive that so many people are able to find so many ways to ***** about the best GM in professional sports.
-
Yeah, including the Red Wings.
-
Like when he said not to expect any major changes to the 2009 roster and then a day later Hossa is on it? It's impossible to tell what opportunities will present themselves.
-
If they are truly shopping him it could definitely happen.
-
Setoguchi is also a liability defensively while Filppula is fantastic. Filppula also only scored 6 less goals than Setoguchi last year, and only 2 less points despite playing in less games. Setoguchi is incredibly overrated.
-
Don't be ridiculous, it would not cost nearly that much. Why are there two extremes in this thread? You have people that think Emmerton, Hudler, and a 3rd is enough, and the people that think it requires 4 top prospects, 2 firsts, and two good roster players? Come on guys, it's not that hard, use the Burns trade to guide you along.
-
It doesn't matter if he wants out, you still have to make an offer that 28 other teams can't match. Giving up garbage like Abdelkader, Emmerton, Hudler, etc WILL NOT do that. That kind of package won't even get you Dennis Wideman.
-
Dude, come on, Abdelkader has garbage value for a player like Yandle. All you're doing is offereing a bunch of scraps for one of the best offensive d-men in the game that is only 24 years old. Please think about that before you offer such a deal. Would you trade, say, Kronwall for Cody McLeod and a pick?
-
It doesn't matter where he was taken, his performance has been downright pitiful. He was benched on his WHL team. What does that tell you? He only has value to the Wings right now in hopes of him turning it around. You really need to put yourself in their shoes and think about the "value" you're trying to dump on them. Kindl does also not have 1st round pick trade value.
-
I guarantee you Holland doesn't leave 10m in cap space left unspent. Calm down. It's been one day. Do you really think Holland is going to openly say who he's going after? You don't announce these sort of things to the press.
-
TheFourthPeriod David Pagnotta I'm not saying a Yandle trade is close, but it's been/being explored. Word on the street is he's concerned with future of team in Phoenix. Also, Ferraro has almost no value in a trade right now, especially for a guy like Yandle.
-
If they could somehow substitute someone like Tatar in for Smith in a possible trade that would be so awesome. Don't get me wrong, I love Tomas, but we have a ridiculous amount of great forward prospects now and still so very little on D.
-
@Drake_Marcus, most people would probably tell you Burns is better defensively, however. And yeah, giving up Filppula wouldn't be ideal, but it'd probably be necessary to get a player like Yandle. Don't forget that would open up his 3 mil in cap space however, so they could sign someone to replace him, perhaps someone like Arnott as a stopgap measure.
-
They're incredibly close, I think it just comes to personal preference myself. Yandle had more points, but Burns had 17 goals. Both teams are pretty awful offensively, they could probably score even more on a team that knows what a "goal" is. I mean if you look at it, this is basically the comparable to the Sharks package for Burns from the Wings Filppula (Setoguchi), Smith (Coyle), 1st rounder for Yandle, 2nd Obviously we would not get a 2nd back. I know that's kind of beating a dead horse with Filppula, but that's the closest comparison that can be made. Anyone that realistically knows what it will take to get Yandle knows Hudler won't be involved.
-
It would probably take something like a solid, young roster player, a blue chip prospect, a first, and a third. Something along those lines. That's more than Burns brought back, and personally, I feel like Burns is better.
-
I really don't understand why everyone here isn't willing to make a REAL offer for Yandle (and I don't mean Hudler, Kindl, and a 1st). SJ just did it with Burns, why does everyone here hate the idea so much and call it so unrealistic? Just an honest question. Yandle doesn't like the future of PHX -- he said this himself, not me, and is being shopped right now.
-
Yandle is being shopped right now and Gagne is an FA. Those are the only two players I have added to the team. Oh, you mean Conklin don't you? I think he'd take a $40m discount to play here again.
