It looks on that video like he had his back to the play. Good penalty because a headzhot did happen, but I don't know if that needs to be a suspension. The reason icing causes injuries is because in a race for the puck the first player in has his back to the second and they're both full speed. That leg break was nasty and will probably get no touch icing on the table at least. We should go to international sized rink like everyone else too while we're at it.

I think Howard's play yesterday wasn't his best performance. Even though one goal was screened and the other was Emmerton's fault, the third goal and the OT goal were saves I think he should have made. He also doesn't make the best saves at times and gives some rebounds out that he could have controlled better. He makes the easy and medium saves, but it seems he has some moments where he's not on his A game. I haven't seen enough of Conklin yet to decide who I think should be starting though. I'm gonna keep a close eye on him tonight. Pick: Howard, I just haven't seen enough of Conklin yet and Howard admitted he wasn't at his best and wants to step it up. Bertuzzi showed alot of focus on his goal, that's the kind of goal he's good for. Wasn't very skillful, but it's a nice goal regardless to be in the right spot at the right time and to get those easy ones. Emmerton's on there as a joke obviously, I have no idea what the hell he was thinking on that one. I imagine he wanted to catch that shot or block it with his stick, but he lifts it right over Howard's shoulder. It's almost as if he forgot whose goal he was in front of. Nyqust's goal was great placement and he worked for it. Zetterberg's pass was great (If lucky) and Franzen was right where he needed to be and had great placement. Pick: Nyquist's goal wins this for me, Bertuzzi's and Franzen's goals were good positioning but were the sort of goals that need to be getting past the goalie every time.

Enough teams like playing it out that the NHL won't go to no-touch. It results in too many ztoppages, the NHL prides itself on fast pace hockey. We already use a smaller rink. While it would prevent some injuries it doesn't cause enough for the NHL to give up a faster playing game. Disregard. I was thinking the goalie couldn't play the puck under no-touch rules. That's not true, he can still negate an icing behind the net. So my point is wrong and invalid. No Touch is much safer for the players. the intent of the touch rule is so if a player misses a pass it wont automatically result in an icing, it gives the attacking team a chance to retain possession. I'm pretty sure at least, hnestly i've never questioned it.

Nyquist isn;t in this game, so let's get good looks at Emmerton and Brunnstorm. I think chemistry might be shot since we're playing the backups. I know it's preseason, but we need to step up intensity. Yesterday was sort of lazy. I know why, I know we're resting our A team,but the B guys should put on a show or Brunnstorm (Which everyone here is in love with) is gonna end up back in the AHL. Only one more preseason game after this for players on the bubble to deserve they deserve a spot.

Seriously, watch the game and realize that you aren't going to be able to read the numbers on top the helmets with how fast the game moves and where the placement on the helmet is. It will add nothing of value and make the helmets look ugly as hell.

I like the grey. it keeps it dark but still makes the logo stand out. It reminds me of the black jerseys lots of colleges are rocking now for football. A red logo would be too much.

I think Brunnstorm or Emmerton realistically could get a spot on the team. At least because of injuries. We'll have to see what happens,but there's no reason to NOT send them down to the AHL to develop a year or so more but at the same time the Wings might feel some young blood now is a good idea.

So much hate. I think the Wings one is kinda cool looking at least, though I'll admit the design doesn't really work so well for all the teams. If I can get a custom name/number I'll consider getting one. It's just cool looking.

I think we'll see alot of hard work from the prospects trying to secure themselves spots. Emmerton especially is gonna be fired up for today. However, I think we may see even sloppier play than yesterday (Even if yesterday the team seemed rather disinterested and lazy for the first period) as there's not going to be any real chemistry for the B squad. However, Brunnstorm and Emmerton on the same line will be good as people seem to like comparing them anyways. Brunnstorm has the size needed to play like Bertuzzi does, plant in front of the net and slam them in. Nyquist isn't on the line up today, are they resting him or is this a sign he made/didn't make the team?

Maybe we'll get a Shanny video explaining it. I just think it's a bit too nitpicky. I understand the rule, but some head contacts are gonna happen. We can't suspend every player to get a head contact penalty. I'd have liked to see him not get a suspension just to show Shanny understands not all hits are suspension worthy.

Brunnstorm's shot looks better compared to Emmerton after last night.

I just don't think the hit was worth a suspension at all... I feel like Shanahan is being overzealous.

I think the lose yesterday should get them fired up for today, I expect a much better performance. Not saying we were bad, just that we need less sloppy passing and to minimize the Leaf's chances. Wings shot themselves in the foot yesterday, even if it was only preseason and we're holding Datsyuk and some other players out. It's gonna be a great Hockey Night in Canada game.

I'll miss the Joe but thank god we're getting a new arena. The Joe is simply getting too old and isn't nearly as modern as other major rinks. As one of the biggest and most respected teams in the league we deserve a top quality arena to play in.

Awesome schedule and you even included 1366x768 which is great. Def keep up the quality and i'm all set on wallpapers for the whole season.

Bert has been showing he plans on playing physical hockey in front of the opposing net and can/will finish rebounds. That alone is enough reason to keep him where he is for now. I know preseason doesn't translate to the season all the time, but he seems a good addition. He's not ever going to carry the team on his shoulders but the Wings have enough depth he'll never be asked to. Keep him down low where he belongs and I see him being worth the money.

It's just like buying a third jersey. I think it's something new and different for those that want it. No need to hate on it. Hate on the camo jersey.

I sort of like the stylish black and red look. The design doesn't work with all the teams (Penguins for example is horrid) but I can see myself buying one if they let me custom name/number it. 160 is a bit steep but not completely unreasonable. It'd be a nice edition to my jersey collection.

The Wings moving East brings the rivalry with Toronto back. That's all the reason we need to want this move. It's a logical move with the Winnipeg addition anyways. Keeps Winnipeg's travel down and puts the Wings where we want to be. A rivalry possibility with the Bruins would also be a huge draw.

Two of the goal's on Howard weren't really his fault. That last one I didn't get a good enough look at in the replay. Pretty sure it deflected. If the Wings hadn't f***ed up and bounced on in on themselves it wouldn't have gone to OT anyways.

Don't think that'll be a suspension. They weren't gonna let them fight after the final whistle. Oh well, might have been a decent fight.

Sloppy passing...

Wings have been playing pretty good so far. They're really controlling the flow of the game except for a few bad instances. Howards penalty was sloppy, luckily it ended up being a coincidental somehow. Toronto hasn't been amazing, but they step it up at times so the score's stayed tied alot longer than it should have. Overall good job, nothing to really complain about.

After living in Toledo for 18 years and being exposed to the Wings alot, now that I've hit college I've decided I really should actually get to know the current players some. Yes, I know. Shame on me. I watch games all the time, but it's like watching football casually, you don't really know names outside the big ones. So, besides Datsyuk, Holmstrom, and Lindstrom who're some dudes to make sure to pay attention to? Anythings besides up and comers I should know about? Thanks to my dad I've had to watch WAY too much hockey night in canada to follow the wings closely. Don't hate too hard, I've had a Wings jersey since I was a mini-mite and always make the Wings/Jackets game at the Joe. I just am really bad with names.

evaluating the role of fighting and banning fighting are two different things. let's see what happens. they'll probably ban follow up punches and slams.
