Im thinking pretty soon were gonna have to make some moves at d in detroit involving our guys in Grand Rapids (backman,marchenko ,ouellet ,sproul and jensen) How you rank them? (the last 2 probably not having a future here) I'd say ... 1- ouellet 2- sproul 3- marchenko 4- jensen 5- backman

Ya I'm sure he'll have a great time trying to knock those 6'3 guys in front of our net Guessing he can come but after being benched now I'm sure he won't come back

I said multiple times I wasn't comparing backman to zetterberg and datsyuk ... They both didn't put in any ahl work as well though and datsyuk started his nhl career at 24 Hicketts can add 20 pounds of muscle but he's still 5'8 and will get knocked around by bigger guys Don't think backman actually thought it was too had , in fact he actually said he believed it was a harder league in Sweden (whether he really believe that is another thing) I don't think he thought it was too hard , just thought if I'm not in the nhl and I'm not playing as much as I'd like in Grand Rapids I might as well go back to my country and family That's something none of us can understand ... Can't be an easy decision to leave behind everything you've ever known and everyone ... It's easy though to say that someone's a bum and sucks cause he's not willing to sit on his behind

I'm sorry but that's crap ... Those 2 guys are what ? 20 pounds heavier than almquist? There all like the same height ... With that logic why did we even give 5'8 joe hicketts a contract ? If weber and diaz could make it in the nhl I'm sure almquist could of gotten some playing time if he wasn't drafted by the redwings Backman is still 22 , he probably won't make it in the nhl with the redwings but he's still talented and can make it on another team like jarnkrok did

Datsyuk came here at 24 and got no ahl time , same with zetterberg ..... Just because he's not willing to stay here to be benched doesn't mean he won't make it to the nhl

Mrazek is untouchable .... I don't think we've ever had a goaltending prospect this good , it be stupid to get rid of him Are the wings contenders? I think so ... We need to find a make ouellet a regular and add a veteran dman (not willing to give up the farm for yandle) And I think we'd need a dallas drake type forward for the playoffs , a big body who will knock guys around and make room for the kids

Maybe he would have with more time? 18 games in the ahl isn't enough time to say someone's a bust and even though he wasn't producing offensively I wouldn't say being -3 was awful for a rookie Almquist is another guy we lost cause he got fed up of waiting even though he stayed in the ahl for years( for all we know maybe backman saw that along with the healthy scratches and figured wasn't worth it?) Not saying almquist is a star but if guys like yannick weber and Raphael diaz are still in the nhl I'm sure almquist could of gotten a spot somewhere

Wasn't sproul like -10 not that long ago and really struggling ? don't remember reading anything about him being scratched a bunch of games I'm not saying having some vets aren't important , but when you need to make room for a top prospect over someone who's like 32 and not nhl bound it shouldn't even be a contest , how else are they to improve? Especially a guy like backman who's not use to playing in big ice who would benefit from it more than guys who play junior hockey here And again I can't blame backman or anyone else for going back , didn't datsyuk come straight to the nhl? At like 24 I think? Not exactly the age Ud think datsyuk would of started his career , zetterberg didn't do ahl Not saying backman is as good , just saying some guys just don't wanna come unless it's for the nhl and he was willing to spend the whole year in the ahl

We don't know what's said behind closed doors , for all we know we might of told him if he came down he'd be a top 6 and get playing time ... And again none of us know how it's like to leave everyone you love behind in the country you were born to go play in an American hockey league so you can get to the nhl Add to that he felt like it was pointless being there if he was gonna keep getting scratched .... At least he wasn't demanding to go straight to the nhl like some players do , he was willing to come work his game in the ahl , just not wit on his ass He won't be be the last player to leave the ahl to go back home ... Just think he deserved more of a chance than a vet dman who will never be in the nhl Grand Rapids is the wings prospects developmental team .... Not an old folks home for nhl failures to steal spots ... That's the way I see it ... Obviously you need some but if it comes to a vet or a promising player shouldn't even be close That being said we need to make a spot for frk as well

Ken holland is a great gm but he was a scrap as an nhl player ... 3 games , drafted in the 12 th round .... He never really had a chance , so he's basically nathan paetsch .... Backman is a talented young defensemen who won awards and championships in his country who should of been given ice time to improve his game in North America How's he suppose to improve sitting on his ass ? He's young and needs to play , not play once a month

Our high ranks prospects should get playing time over aging vets who have no chance of playing in the nhl , I even would of added nedomlel to the roster People can mock backman all they want but I can see it from his point ... You leave the place your from , your family and friends to pursue your dream and then you don't even play for weeks ... Might as well go back and play and see your loved ones

Big difference between getting a spot on an ahl team when your a highly ranked prospect so you can learn and develop your game and when you go straight to the nhl and thrown into the fire , not the same at all He should of gotten some playing time over the vets who have no future with detroit

Ahhh come on man! Just saw backman left for Sweden ! Why couldn't we just let him play and trade a veteran with no future in detroit , yes I know Grand Rapids want to win but it's also there to help develop our guys and he did come down from his home country sweden and left behind everything There's no chance he's coming back to the nhl f*** .... We might as well try and convince a team to take him In a trade that can offer him a chance cause he will never be a redwing I don't know if he ever would of been a wing but another young European going back home during the ahl season ... Sucks

He's 22 ... He's WAY ahead of what Howard was at that age

Why don't they just get rid of paetsch and/or evans and make room for the kids? It be nice to have some vets with the griffins but there not in the wings future plans And while there at it get rid of hogan or someone else and make room for frk , how does it help frk to play 2 yrs in the echl , he should be with the other kids

I don't think it is , I'm really convinced on mrazek ... And when's the last time detroit ever had a goalie prospect this good? Don't think they ever have Mrazek has a lot of confidence for a young kid and doesn't let a bad goal get to him which you need in the nhl to succeed , add to that he's 22 and howard is 30 , he's got 8 years more on Howard Also as unbelievable howard has been this year so far I don't know if I trust him longterm and it's always best to trade someone while there hot rather than when there cold and no one wants them and lose all value That being said I think there's 0 chance redwings will trade either of them

Heard it around the radio as well .. We'll see if they deal anyone but if they wanna improve the team they'll have to do a 3-4 for 1 type deal and hall and eberle have most value

Oilers are actually considering dealing taylor hall ... Jimmy Howard's been amazing and I know I'll get slaughtered for this and I don't care I'll say it anyways Howard In a package deal to Edmonton for taylor hall I'd do In a heartbeat and then give mrazek (who I think will be a future star) most of the workload with Gus as backup and if need be throw in fasth in case and send him to the minors (he's sucked this year in Edmonton but he did have a stretch where he was real good in Anaheim and provide insurance) Having a player like taylor hall in detroit would be a huge move and give us more hope to finish off some games rather than always playing overtime That being said I do think Edmonton is all talk and won't end up moving him anyways

Ohhhh please no way in hell we do that , I know we Might need veteran d help but why would we give up 2 big pieces and a 1st?? What's the point of having all these griffins kids and not play them? Rather give jensen a few games and marchenko before don't such a trade At that price I'd much rather have Oliver ekman larsson

I'm worried about marchenko though , with him being young and Russian always a chance he bails to the khl I was really high on him because he's swedish and I can't help but pay attention to every swede we have but I don't know anymore about backman but I hope your right

Think we need to take notice that he's playing on a disaster team like buffalo for years and there's no doubt about it if he came to detroit he would be a ton better and would log a ton of ice timeAnd I think myers coming here might give Babcock another reason to stay About the forward prospects , with Tatar nyquist sheahan jurco already here and mantha and larkin being as much as untouchable as you can get along with role players you need and I'd keep such as bertuzzi and natasiuk , as well as veteran players , something's gotta give Pulkkinen I think will be used in a trade to get a key piece and if it takes adding athanasiou I'd do it We also have janmark who's a center and turgeon and other guys with potential(holmstrom etc..) were stacked

Ya I wouldn't give up those guys but the wings do have a lot of forwards coming up and from what I read a while back buffalo was stacked on defense in there prospect system id do something like pulkkinen athanasiou a 2016 1st for myers ... Think that's more than fair considering he's underachieving and has 5+ longterm ... Even throw in Andersson for the fun of it And we still have mantha larkin bertuzzi natasiuk janmark frk and a few others with some potential And of course Tatar nyquist sheahan jurco glendening for the future And I don't know our cap space so we might have to include kindl somehow in that deal or with someone else

It all worked out for us , him being here would of meant one less spot when we had all those injuries and maybe jurco never would of be called up , or just played a few games as a wing

Not to mention his 6 million cap hit ... Don't need any drama in the dressing room Veteran dman and we'd be set ... And maybe a physical forward type for the playoffs but no need for anything now , we're doing amazing ... Just adding ouellet in the lineup fulltime would make me happy
