Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread

It still baffles me ... Yes were helping ourselves and our current cap situation but teams who don't wanna spend actual cash money and are having problems financially also benefit greatly and yet were expected to give up a top pick? Pass .... Play the kids and trade other assets -

Wow Florida gave up a 2nd draft pick to get rid of Marc savard's contract that has one season left on it? That's just f***en retarded At this point I hope to god Detroit keeps datsyuks contract on the books since it's just for one season and give the kids a chance to play for once If we want to free up cap space or make moves do so by gettin rid of Ericsson and a Tatar/nyquist I don't get some of these gm's in this league -

It's the same problem we keep having ... Being way too loyal to playerWould I like helm to resign? Sure but not at 3-4 per which he's gonna get , he's most likely gonna fall down to the 3rd-4th line eventually ... Signing helm close to 4 per let's say and Miller would take away 2 roster spots and we already have nosek and frk out of waivers I believe? Athanasiou Larkin mantha most likely all starting next year We sign those 2 guys Pulkkinen/jurco/nosek/frk could possibly all be gone just to make room for yet again ... Vets Never ends -

He's gonna be 24 in December , 3 NHL seasons but none were ever a full season I'd like to see him play 70+ and get some good linemates for a consistent time and not switched around all the time and play on the 4th line Top 3 lines , linemates with skill and some occasional ppl time ... He's got all the tools , just needs a consistent, real shot -

You say your fine with giving away with middling prospect but what do you consider middling ? Would you be fine with giving away axel holmstrom? I wouldn't , hadn't proven s*** yet but broke the sedins playoff records for points so I still got hopes for him ... Same with turgeon Which prospects would you be ok with departing? -

And Carolina isn't? Everyone knows they are a budget team and having money problems and that 7.5 money is a life safer Let's just agree to disagree -

Has nothing to do with being nice , right now Carolina is fighting for their lives , they keep losing money they'll be in Quebec In a few seasons ... Guaranteed That 7.5 savings would be huge for them Toronto did those teams a favor , you can say Carolina would be as well but it's not the same .... Leads had to pay actual cash and they are a rich organization and don't need to worry about saving funds ... Same with Philly -

Haha Or he can just get rid of the contract and free up cap space for trade deadlines , or flip the 7th for a 4th .cause drafting 3 rounds earlier is a better spot -

And how is getting a 7.5 cap hit to reach the bottom floor and not having to spend a single penny when your NHL franchise is losing money and in serious trouble not a good deal to help their team? Let's flip this s*** around for fun of it ... Let's say Detroit says we're gonna keep the cap hit cause it's only one season and give the kids a chance .... Carolina calls and asks for the contract to help out their current situation , we're gonna be assholes now and expect them to throw us a 22 yr old 2nd round prospect with some untapped potential? -

They might want Detroit to sweeten the pot ... But in life you can't always get what you want And yes the asking price will differ from teams , and yes karma is in deep s*** right now and I don't consider us doing that deal as him doing ill itch any favours , I'd see it as a win win deal , he'd help us with our cap situation and likewise we'd be helping out them as saving 7.5 of actual cash will greatly help the canes .... Where else are they gonna get a 7.5 cap hit to hit the bottom floor without actually having to spend a single dollar -

Then i guess I'm nuts ... Everyone knows Carolina is a cap team with a lot of money trouble and that 7.5 cap hit without spending a penny would be gold to them and wouldn't require us to give away young talent It's not a deal that involves doing us a favour it's a deal that helps both sides -

Don't agree ... A team like Carolina for example who's cash strapped right now would love to get that datsyuk contract and save 7.5 of actual cash , the way I see it we'd both be helping eachother out , why in the hell would we have to give away a pulkkinen or jurco (yes I realize they haven't done anything significant yet,but both are young and im not ready to write them off yet as NHL busts ) I can't imagine us offering say datsyuks contract and a 4th for a 7th from Carolina that they'd laugh in our faces and hang up with everything going on there -

Would be his 3rd team in 6 seasons .... I'm seeing comments like he's one of the best dmen In the league , I'm sorry but those don't get moved around , they get locked up longterm and never leave , they don't get shopped around ... You say it's not a lot but he's already on his 3rd season, at this rate he'll retire with 5-6 teams u dear his belt Again unless it's a big blockbuster deal, star for star ... "Stars" don't get dealt Sorry im just not a fan of shattenkirk and add to that the price it would cost for us to land him ... I'd rather go for some young d prospects off teams that would cost cheaper and have potential Shattenkirk is no rafalski .... As for Barrie he would cost us some serious coin so I'll pass , I also don't believe he's worth the 6-7 per he wants Definetly agree that we need to add more toughness , we been lacking that for a very long time ... Think we got a potential scoring top 6 forward in mantha provided were patient and actually give him time with good linemates and some ppl time We definetly need a top 2 dman -

There's always a way to keep him if they wanted to (trade bouwmeester, or other assets) and his salary isn't that high next season ... This would be his 3rd team already We know who is far superior which is why even comparing them is ludicrous .... Might as well compare Patrick kane with someone who has the same skills but half the points I'd say yandle/shattenkirk are good comparables, but that's just my opinion -

And yet after everything you posted shattenkirk is being shopped instead of sticking around even with 19th ranking for defence Your down for shattenkirk , I'm certainly not ... To each his own As for karlsson he's a point a game player and the best offensive defensemen, period ... He's -2 but also gets you 75-82 pts a season ... Not 40-45 , can't even compare them to eachother -

Analytics ... What a load of bs that nonsense is ... Analytics would of said Konstantinov wouldn't of been good then I'm sure someone will give shattenkirk 7 per ... There's always a sucker Off topic here ... Anybody here know if we have any drafted prospects to sign or we risk losing them ? Does Christopher ehn have to be locked up or is he already? I know axel holmstrom is but I don't know about ehn -

Obviously ... If we're gonna spend 7 + per on a dman and give up really good assets he'd better be good 2 way and be able to kill penalties as well -

Your funny Want a current comparable ... Keith yandle , puts up numbers doesn't do much else , go ask the Rangers if they don't regret giving up duclair and what else they did to acquire him Shattenkirk isn't a great defender , he's been hurt last few seasons .. He was - 14 this season on a very good blues team and that's with him putting up numbers It would be a waste of good assets to acquire him and a waste of salary cap it would take to lock him up longterm -

Trouba is young and big and full of potential where as shattenkirk is pretty much at the level he's gonna stay at I'm not gonna start looking at everyone's stats but someone who use to put numbers just a few years ago anyway as well was Tobias enstrom who wasn't a big dman as well and didn't bring much else to the table ... Shattenkirk might be abit better but he's in the same ballpark Someone mentioned mike green before .... He's pretty much what mike green was when he was with the caps ... And what we're stuck with now in green is where shattenkirk is headed soon enough There's a reason the blues are shopping shattenkirk over pietrangelo and bouwmeester -

Shattenkirk one of the best d in the league? That's just ridiculous Id pass on shattenkirk , yes he can put up numbers but he's really overrated -

I got no idea about carlsson and where he'll end up , i don't know how the euro rankings go , for some reason first few ones usually go right off the bat and the next ones always go later on which is why I got a tendency to pay attention to them and try and find a few gems in there ... It's too bad we didn't take carlsson 7th rounder last year I also like johansen and day .... Hopefully by trading back once or twice depending on how much we'd fall we'd be able to land 3-4 good picks Ya I also doubt they'd give up on henrik samuelsson so soon , just saw the point decline and thought it could be a good gamble to take , wouldn't even know what we'd have to give up to land him -

Seen it on tsn, Craig button I think when they were talking about mock draft stuff I believe ... Could be wrong , guess I am. ... I do like athanasiou and I think his speed is too great for him not to be a top 6 forward and quite possibly a 2nd line center(think sheahan will be the 3rd line center unless he gets dealt down the road) As you mentioned he could become a winger later on, who knows ... Isn't svechnikov a center? I'm still up for trading back and getting an extra pick or 2 , guess I always have the habit of looking for players who could be homerun picks in the later rankings , I always look for players ranked 25+ and I always check out the euro section cause there's always good players that come out from there I still like Lucas carlsson from Sweden on d , liked him last year and went undrafted and this year he's ranked 15 , if he's available in the 2nd and we have extra pick(s) I'd wanna see us draft him Was checking out past draft picks after we just made the trade with the Sharks and saw henrik samuelsson http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=130984 2012 Arizona first pick , struggled last year in the ahl after getting 40 points in his rookie season , wonder if it was just a hiccup or someone who can bounce back and wouldn't cost much? I doubt it but anyone here ever see him play? -

Isn't McLeod a gritty type player ? Like a bertuzzi and the sharks guy we just traded for? Plus we got a great one two punch down the middle for years to come .... Larkin/athanasiou -
