trade Red Wings acquire Erik Cole, conditional 3rd from Stars
The Greek replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
I definitely like this more than the legwand trade. I forgot about backman and Janmark. It shouldn't hurt us going forward. We still have the prospects we're hoping will compose our core. -
Exactly, that's what this team needs... Wait. What?
-
No. Peeing at the trough is part of the experience. I personally hate them, but I wish they would install them at the new arena. Think of what a mindf*** it must be for the opposing fans. They must think we're animals.
-
Agreed. It doesn't get any better than sitting in the bottom row of the upper bowl.

There's nothing "wrong" with Hockeytown cafe. I just don't think it's worth going when here for such a limited amount of time. It's not like they offer food you can't get anywhere else. sure, they have wings memorabilia all over the place, but it's really just a bunch of hockey gear and pictures from hockey games we've all seen.

Is it just me, or is this game boring as hell? I don't mind low scoring games, but this is just tedious.

Before I can give you any tips, I need to know a few things. How far do you live from Baltimore? How much time do you spend there? What do you typically do for fun? What kind of bars/restaurants do you frequent? Are you looking for good clean fun, or do you want an edgier experience? If edgier, how much? You can feel free to ignore my post. I did pretty much just drop popquiz on you. I just want to avoid recommending places you wouldn't like. Please, just don't go to Hockeytown cafe.

Zetterberg leaves after 2nd Period; "upper body injury"
The Greek replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I should have known you're a JD. It explains so much. In all seriousness, you deserve some kudos. The legal market is still pretty bad, but you got in at the worst possible time. I try to avoid multitasking, especially when I'm working on something that is particularly dry, like reading for corps. I'm too ADD. I prefer to just buckle down and get it over with, not that it always works. -

He didn't defame anyone, but that's irrelevant. He was stereotyping Canadians as racist. That is not racist in and of itself. Either way, I probably shouldn't have made the comment, and I regret doing so. It really didn't contribute anything to the thread. -

Thanks. I'm in law school, so I try to avoid this place when I'm reading. It's too easy for me to get sucked into a debate. -

I never actually defended him. I just pointed out your poor understanding of a common idiom and the definition of racism. -

I don't think you understand what constitutes racism. -

Where do you get this stuff? No one said anything about banning hits or making the nets bigger.I know you love fighting, frank; I've made it clear that I dont. However, our positions on that issue don't necessarily dictate our positions on the issue at hand. There is a huge difference between targeting an unsuspecting players head and engaging in a consentual fistfight. There is no debate that the former has no place in hockey, but the latter still has plenty of supporters. All I am asking is that the league punishes headshots severely enough to deter players from targeting the head. -

He says it right in the post that he's canadien. Your chosen idiom doesn't work in this situation. -

Again, there is no guarantee that this will be an effective deterrent. If a guy is a better fighter than anyone on your team, what is stopping him from running your best players? I never said a $2,500 fine. I said six figures (100,000 or more). I understand the league is limited to fines of $2,500, but a long term suspension could have the exact same effect of huge fine. Edit: did you really suggest that an enforcer should run seguin if Benn doesn't answer for a cheap shot? You're really just proving why letting players enforce the rules is a terrible idea. If a player refuses to fight, he and his teammates ought to subjected to an on ice assault. Got it. -

It will do something; look at the NFL. Suh gets hit with a six figure fine, then he goes a full season without even incurring a penalty. Hockey players are tough. They're not scared of some half-assed fight. In many cases, no one ever lands a solid punch. How is that more discouraging than going after their finances? Not enforcing the rules does lead to an arms race. That's why every team used to have a designated enforcer. It's also a terrible way of encouraging safety; just look at the lawsuit against the nhl. -

What happens if Big E gets injured? Benn gets no punishment, and we're now dealing with two injuries. When you allow players to police the game, there's no guarantee you'll cut down on cheap shots. If the rules aren't enforced, the league is just encouraging an arms race where teams place a premium on fighters. The problem is that some fighters are better than others. If you're fighter is outmatched, then there is nothing stopping the other team from running your players. This basically results In a situation where the rules don't apply to the team with the best fighters. Then you end up with something other than hockey. -

You're right, and that's the problem. If this was any other sports league, it would be a much bigger deal. Even if you like fighting, it should not be an institutionalized form of punishment. Even if someone did fight Benn, there's no guarantee Benn would get what he deserves. Benn is pretty damn tough. You're basically arguing that we must risk injury to another player in order to enforce the rules. Furthermore, in your ideal system, the best fighters are above the rules, because no one can "punish" them. -

For some reason, Z's head doesn't matter. We all remember what happened when that scumbag weber crushed his helmet. -

Who are the announcers? Everything about that call was terrible. -
GDT 2/18 GDT : Red Wings 3 at Blackhawks 2 (SO. Yes, SO!).
The Greek replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Isn't that the same thing, in principle? That's why I'm confused over the reaction. I don't see a meaningful difference between what Kane and Bertuzzi do. the goalie always has to make the first move on a breakaway/shootout. Kane and Bertuzzi's approaches just give the shooter the time and space to react to the goalie's move. -

The Greek replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Why does anyone have a problem when any player uses the slow approach method? The league implemented a stupid way of settling games. People shouldn't be upset when players take what is given to them. Does everyone really think a shooter should skate it in fast, thereby letting the goalie use the shooter's momentum against him? -
