Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

Wouldn't be the first time. (See: Luongo, Thornton)

    The 2008 Trade Deadline Thread

I don't see McCabe, being a defensemen, effecting the prices of other forwards. I can't imagine many teams are/were interested in McCabe anyway. That is if you want to consider McCabe a defenseman...

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

Sundin would've screwed things up much more if he would've accepted a trade to Anaheim.

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

I can see Montreal, but not Ottawa. Ottawa and Hossa have a rocky past and there's little to no chance they could sign him beyond this season with Spezza, Heatley, and Fisher's new contracts kicking in. Montreal has the cap space to do it but can they offer a better return than the Wings? Other than Ryder, I'd say they want to retain their young NHL-ready guys. The Wings are probably less reluctant to keep Filppula, as scoring has become a serious issue and Filppula isn't helping at all lately. Plus, the Habs are in the Eastern Conference.

    Tampa Bay Goalie search

It wasn't a secret that Tampa could shop Richards. Hossa wants to play for a winner and Tampa wants to dump salary. A Richards-for-Hossa trade wouldn't make sense. Plus, they're in the same division.

    The 2008 Trade Deadline Thread

The Wings were supposedly interested in Kozlov over the summer but he re-signed with Atlanta. I doubt they re-signed him to fairly long deal just to trade him in the off-season. I don't think he's what the Wings are looking for, anyway. Markov would have to clear waivers if the Wings were to sign him, so he won't be returning.

    Olli's the Man

Burke said the Edmonton first won't be in play, but you never know what's truth and what's not with GM's talking trade.

    Olli's the Man

I hadn't even thought about Anaheim getting him. I can imagine since they were supposedly in on the Sundin race that they'll be in on the Jokinen race, though. God, they'd be scary if they got him. Getzlaf and Perry then Jokinen and Selanne? I think the thing that prevents them from getting him is the fact that Florida will probably want some NHL ready guys and Anaheim doesn't have many to give up. Kunitz is probably the only one... possibly Perry. I highly doubt they'd deal Perry though.

    Olli's the Man

Trust me, if the Wings get Hossa he won't be a rental. This point has been reiterated many times by many people.

    Olli's the Man

Why? Jokinen's contract is almost guaranteed to be less than Hossa's extension and the two are very similar players. Plus, Florida can get any of the 29 other teams involved in a trade for Jokinen. He's a franchise center so even the fringe teams will be interested. Hossa, on the other hand, wants to sign with a winner so he can control his destiny. Theoretically Atlanta could trade Hossa to a team he won't sign with, but I doubt a team getting him as a rental will pay more than teams he's willing to sign with.

It would be much more than the cost for Hossa.

    Olli's the Man

Jokinen is going to cost an incredible amount of assets thanks to the affordable contract he's signed to for the next few years. Plus, he doesn't have a NTC so he can't pick and choose where he's dealt to. Hossa can choose where he wants to extend (which is, IMO, the only reason the Wings may be in the running for him) so it limits his value.

    OFFICIAL: Sundin Staying Put

Tons of respect for Sundin. I'm glad Anaheim won't be getting him. I don't see how this really drives up the price for Hossa, either. If Sundin were to be traded, I doubt his list of teams would've been that big.

What do you want to bet you're wrong? (Honestly, a username change...whatever you want) Holland's going to make at least one deal. He's not going to let this cap space go to waste.

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

Hossa is 6'1" 210 pounds and uses his size. He's not as big as Sundin, but he's definitely bigger than Zetterberg and Datsyuk.

    Pretty much all speculation/rumors/debate.

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

That suggests it's what he could land. The debate that I (and others) have brought up is whether or not Hossa would be willing to accept less to come to an organization like the Wings. If he is, he'll be in Holland's sights.

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

Hudler hasn't ben much of anything yet, but let's put this line combo talk on hold until Tuesday if the Wings actually do get Hossa...which seems like a long shot anyway.

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

I'd assume Datsyuk, as he's primarily a playmaker. Zetterberg is the more prolific goal-scorer of the two.

If Holland does go big and gets Sundin or Hossa, he will make sure he's getting them past this season. Book it.

    MIA : Secondary Scoring

Not to derail the thread, but $3-4 million for Richards? I'd say $5-6.5 is a reasonable amount for him. Feaster gave him that big contract because of his Conn Smythe in '04.

His contract can answer that question for you.

    The 2008 Trade Deadline Thread

It was rumored for a while. I wanted the Wings to get one of Salei, Carney, or Witt. I'd still welcome any one of them.
