In response to the Schneider/Datsyuk proposals, why would San Jose trade Marleau (a fan favorite/franchise player) for two guys that are UFA's next season, one of them 37 years old?

Yzerman was never the biggest. It's about heart and willing to pay the price. Grit and size arent the same thing. The Wings need both. They also need speed on the wing and a legit scorer. As far as I'm concerned, Gionta addresses all of the above except size.

I was very surprised that Holland didnt sign him. I wouldnt have minded it. He may not have addressed our needs right now, but he wouldve been a nice piece to add to our core. He's only 27 I beleive.

Thanks for pointing out the obivous. Everyone on this site knows this team is stocked with centers. We have no legit scoring wingers. Where did you see any evidence last year that Lang can be effective on the wing? He looked completely out of place last season the few times he did play wing. Barring any trades, Draper will be the one playing wing.

Yes, this season he'll probably be a 3rd or 4th liner, if he makes the team. But, why delay his development even more by using a roster spot on a 30 year old? I dont really see the Wings winning the cup this year, just because how strong the Western Conference is. This year is a transition year. O'Neill would be a good pick-up if the Wings needed to get over the hump. They don't.

Enh, I dont know if he's still got it. On one hand if he could return to form I think he's the type of guy the Wings could use. On the other hand, I doubt he returns to form. No thanks. Just use Kopecky.

For Lang and Hudler? You're crazy. Lang will be a UFA at the end of this year and is already up there in age. Hudler is unproven and no one knows if he'll ever be able to secure a full time job in the NHL.

If it is bonechips, it shouldnt be that bad. I had a large loose piece of bone removed from my knee arthroscopically and the recovery time is only about a month to two months. Could be different for an NHL player though.

Soriano is a huge gamble. Unless he agrees to an extension before the trade I day no dice. Abreu could be had for Miner and Thames -- both of who's stocks are higher than they'll likely ever be.

Which is a big problem...3 of our top 4 players are centers. Deal one of Lang and Datsyuk for a defenseman and a winger. I wouldnt have a problem with Datsyuk for Souray and Ryder.
