  1. I'm not sure how reputable this source (TVA sports) is, but they're saying the Wings have offered Xavier Ouellet to Montreal for Moen. Here's a translation via Google:

Even if injured, the Montreal Canadiens winger Travis Moen seems more interested in training for the NHL playoffs.

Depending on what VAT Sports learned on Monday night, the Detroit Red Wings would Moen, an attacker versatile 6 foot 2 inches and 215 pounds, in their sights and would like to add to their core of veterans. They have even offered to Canadians hope Quebec Xavier Ouellet, of Blainville, Boisbriand Armada, they had selected in the 2nd round (48th overall) in the last draft.

The Chief Wings Ken Holland has already begun discussions about this with the CEO of Canadians, Pierre Gauthier.

  2. Don't forget Janik and Excelby... None will be playing for GR... so wtf. WHY DO WE NEED ANYTHING BUT A SCORER!??!

Just because they have defensive depth doesn't mean they can't make an upgrade. Kubina would've been an upgrade over Kindl and Commodore.

That's like saying, "They have 14 forwards, why do they even need to make a trade?!"

  3. Why are people suggesting that trading for Selanne if he's only going to be here for the playoffs isn't worth it? It's always worth it if you win the Stanley Cup. Do you think Boston really regrets trading for Kaberle? Of course not.

Selanne is an elite forward that would help this team win the Cup.

  4. I wouldn't consider Hudler a scrap right now, and Emmerton and Andersson aren't write offs either, so that trade IMO isn't such a bad offer. Nabs I don't see us getting though, probably too high a price for a team looking for a backup, I can see the hawks potentially making a run for him though. I hope Kenny tries to acquire Ruutu soon, a player like him I think would work great for a potentially long run this year.

Emmerton is a fourth liner, tops, in the NHL. Andersson projects to be a bottom-six forward. Despite the fact that he's having a good year, Hudler is a free agent at the end of the season. If Dallas wants him, they can sign him for nothing in July. There's very little value there.

  5. A name flying under the radar...Robyn Regehr. Buffalo will be sellers, and they have a bunch of big contracts that are IMO a little too big considering the players abilities. I have heard Regehr has lost a step( I havent watched him for a bit), but even if he has, he still has to be a very good shutdown Dman, and he is quite physical. He would solidify our defense IMO. Hes at 4mil and under contract for next season only. Its a thought many haven't looked at.

I was thinking the same thing. Holland and Regier are good friends and Regehr would make a good replacement for Stuart next year. Hopefully they could snag both him and Gaustad.

  6. I'm listening to the Marek vs. Wyshynski podcast from two days ago (Jan. 25) and they had Ken Daniels on as a guest. One of them asked Daniels if he expects Detroit to be active at the deadline and he said:

Yes, absolutely. Without a doubt. They could use a top-six forward, I would think. I would also think they need some size up front and I would think on the blue line they could use some size back there too and maybe another right-handed shot would probably be the preferences. So, I think there's free areas and certainly with $5 million plus to spend, a position they have not been in before, I think when you see that Nick Lidstrom's turning 42 years old, and I don't know what will happen in the offseason with who's unrestricted, and you know the name's that are out out there like Ryan Suter or what happens with him, but I think they will be active for sure. I think they want to do something, realizing that they've got a good opportunity. Why not? Look at their record. I think the only thing this team really needs is some more size up front. Beyond the Bertuzzi's and the Franzen's... they'll go for size, but a guy that can play too. They want a guy with some size who can play with some skill, not just a guy who can play for four or five minutes a game.

He also said he expects Lidstrom to keep playing unless there's a lockout.

  7. From Darren Dreger:

    Hi Darren,

Now that the Red Wings are rolling along, just wondering if Ken Holland would add anyone for the playoffs? I heard that possible players - maybe Selanne, Grabovski, Elias, Hemsky and Jason Blake? Hopefully they can add someone to help balance out the scoring!

    Mike Gross

    Hamilton

A: Mike, Ken Holland is among the best at identifying players he knows will help the Red Wings in the playoffs. I've heard some rumblings, like the Canucks, Detroit will, or has shown some interest in Moen. I would expect the Wings would show considerable interest in Brendan Morrow if Dallas is truly listening to teams targeting the veteran centre. Hard to imagine the Stars are willing to do the Red Wings any favours, but if the price is right, anything is possible.

  8. From a poster at HFBoards:

Basically on the montreal radio channel TSN 990, [Pierre McGuire] came out saying Babcock is in for a huge surprise this deadline, he expects Holland to go out and get him a key player but he didn't give out a name.

Then he went on to say how they love Lidstrom and how good he still is but they're aware that his 40 and eventually someone needs to eat these minutes off.

  9. I've heard from a couple people that Deteoit has been pursuing Derek Roy since the meeting.

Who/where did you hear this from?

I found this, translated from French:

John Shannon reported that the attacking player and center of the Buffalo Sabres, Derek Roy, arouse the interest of three formations NHL. The Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings and Minnesota Wild are these formations. Roy touches an average annual salary of $ 4 million per season and will see his present contract to expire at the end of the 2012-2013 season. The attacker knows a season low expectations with a harvest of 25 points in 46 games.

I can see the Hawks getting him. They need a second line center more than the Wings need a third line center.
