Best coach available and not even an offer...that's all one needs to read. Holland just hasn't adapted to the new NHL, he doesn't see the value in trying to get the top picks, he is loyal to a fault. Nothing against Blashill but it's a shame that Gallant isn't already on the Wings payroll in some official role and now they've lost the best coach being available since losing Babcock that's just insanity. Weber, Price, Galchenyuk and Sergachiev under a Julien system have fun east...

It just sucks he didn't get to see another cup, the finishing touches on his new arena or a cup for his other team in baseball

The best owner in all of sports just died, so who cares about playoffs/non playoffs draft pick at the moment I just can't watch any hockey, not even 2 years and Howe and Mr. I are gone that sucks so much.
-
That's awesome and very classy, hats of to the Sens

I'm turning on my phone to start the day and the first news I see Mr. I is dead, that's not how you want to start your day. i think websites, apps and whatever shouldn't put such sad news on the front-row. I mean what can you say about Mr. I? Best owner in all of sports and by all accounts an even better person than business man. Not only has Detroit lost one heck of a man the whole hockey, baseball world hast lost someone who had a burning desire for winning no matter the cost. Hopefully the Wings do something classy to honor him like the old saying goes it all starts at the top and I doubt a fan can hope for a better owner than Mr. I.

Can We Please Stop Putting Teams In Unsustainable Cities?

Well if Paul Allen is interested in an NHL team Seattle will get one, the guy is a loaded loaded billionaire who I'm sure doesn't have to think twice a few million here and there. -

Can We Please Stop Putting Teams In Unsustainable Cities?

So if this happens: Isles to Hartford Coyotes to Quebec Hurricanes to Seattle? That's 3 relocations so I highly doubt the NHL would sign of on this. -
2 pages and no get well soon wishes so I'll be the first get well soon and hopefully his knee will make a full recovery. You know there's life after hockey. Fleury to Dallas would make too much sense the only question is, will the Pens take back of their goalies as backup? If I'm Rutherford the asking price for Fleury would be a second plus a solid prospect.

There's a lot of things that could need a change but keeping things behind closed doors is certainly not one of them. Think about the Price situation when the parents of his wife had to read in a newspaper! that their daughter is expecting a baby or when some Toronto reporter phoned Reimers mother because the team didn't want to use the word concussion. If I were a player I would be very happy with the way the Wings are handling difficult decisions. Also according to Lebrun most - if not all - NHL GMs are expected to ask their owners if firing a coach is ok because 1.) they have to pay 2 guys and 2.) the other guy might not be better. Again, nothing against Blashill but in this case 2.) isn't any reason at all. Julien is one heck of a coach. Yzerman is not an idiot there is no way Cooper gets fired this year. Lindy Ruff is the wrong(!!) coach for this team the guy just know how to coach defense and I know people will say well then outscore your problems, unless a team has 2 bonafide superstar lines (good luck with that in the salary cap era), there is no way to do that. I may be in the minority but I'd rather see a young michiganborn coach working things out then having Ruff coming in and seeing even worse defensive play. Tippet on the other hand would be awesome, he has tons of experience and never had the luxury of coaching a team that will spend whatever it takes. But that's just speculation now that Julien is available action needs to be taken and it better be quick because I'm sure starting tomorrow his phone will be ringing a lot.

Poor guy can't catch a break I hate to mention that but maybe some sort of surgery would fix his knee problem?

NYI - nobody knows if their owners are willing to spend plus as of right now they don't have a playing facility for 2019 FLA - they don't want a real experienced coach they want a yes man type of guy but from all available rosters they have by far the best one. NYI has a huge drop-off after Johnny T DET - Original 6, owner willing to spend, soon a new arena that hopefully challenges the Oilers one for the title of the best arena BUT lacks talent (no number 1 center and defenseman, no elite talent in sight or in the minors baring a miracle). Boston was a bit better but man would Julien want to coach another so-so team? LV - expansion team nobody knows how this roster will look like, if their owner is willing to spend and how long that fanbase will support a team built from scratch. So it really depends what Julien wants, if he wants another shot at the cup, he'll take his time and wait for the job opening with a contender (maybe LA if they miss the playoffs again). If he doesn't mind another rebuilding team I could see the Wings as an option, if he wants a free ticket for 2 - 3 years and then ride into the sunset Vegas it is.

No need for sorry. I know that Toews doesn't have a good season by his standards and neither does Kopitar usually both are locks as Selke nominees. As of right now I would give the Selke to Kesler closely followed by Bergeron
-
This is really simple 2 great coaches are available and they won't be for long. Either the Wings get one or Vegas and the Isles are going to act that simple And again nothing against Blashill but Hitch and Julien are both easily top 8 coaches Julien in my mind top 4
-
Easiest thing to do is sign a bunch of so-so players who are all available for the expansion draft. I mean, do people honestly expect this Vegas team to get really good players from the opposition?
-
Funny that they are doing it when the greatest quarterback of all time has a parade scheduled, cowards.
-
The question was about this season and in that case NJ is better not by much but still. If the Avalanche get the asking price for one of Duchene or Landeskog they'll be in the mix again soon, just too much talent to not be.
-
This would rival Toronto's insane front-office core in my mind.

Julien, Gallant, Hitchcock are available +/- Tippet and this is a great quartett of 4 guys with experience who all will command respect from the get-go. I think Holland knows if he fires Blashill and things aren't going to turn around, the next shoe to drop will be his - firing Blashill means he made a mistake by not interviewing other guys because he just promoted from within - and the non pressure of just hanging on will be over, so for sure he won't do anything like that. This to me is a situation in which ownership has to step in and at least bring one of them in as an assitant coach or advisor. Also Boston made a mistake they've tried to change their style (for no good reason!) and expected different players to work under Julien? Their defense basically is a 40 old Chara plus a young inexperienced guy in Carlo..trading away Seguin, Loooooch and Hamilton was and always will be a mistake from Chiarelli and whoever their new GM is (Sweeni?) Amazing isn't it? if my boss told me to finish the contract and I tell him "well I might phone around and kick some tires maybe...I'll do nothing" the next phone-call will involve 3 words "you are fired" and deservingly so.
-
I'm sure a lot of teams might want Duchene or Landeskog...but who has what Sakic wants? A similar aged top 4 guy, first round pick and a good prospect? That's a lot to pay. Boston can't afford to trade defense Maybe the Avs are going to build around MacKinnon as their new leader

How do you know? Ottawa traded Lehner to Buffalo. And basically Yes I'm saying a goalie like them would be the best thing for the rebuild. -
It's just insane, MacKinnon, Landeskog, Duchene, Barrie and they still can't get on a winning streak. Either there are some serious locker room issues going on or this team is just badly constructed, which would look bad for Sakic. Getting rid off ROR was such a huge mistake. Looking back at it it's almost comical what has happened to the Wings and Avs since they've had this great rivalry both are a shadow of their former self.

well going forward I would prefer someone who is a team player, young, works hard and shows some consistency. Neither of the two fits the bill. A guy like Talbot, Gibson would have been great -

Said it before and I'll say it again, Howard has received a lot of crap so I'm happy he shut his doubters of. In fact I don't think either one is the long-term answer Howard is the old, the other guy lacks consitency -
