Babcock "I don't think it will be my final year here"
frankgrimes replied to trule23's topic in General
Well the clock is ticking, if he isn't signed today I would assume the best coach in all of hockey is gone at the end of the season. And Mr. Kicking the tires will remain for another 3 years... -
more NHL wisdom: Chris Pronger may work for Dept of Player Safety
frankgrimes replied to haroldsnepsts's topic in General
Ah makes sense I highly doubt the league would have a problem with his LTIR status, the guy trieds he simple isn't able to participate at this level anymore. I mean, Pronger still has days where he can't watch TV and needs a "dark room" that's horrible sending him out on the ice under such conditions could end up extremely bad. He knows all the tricks so maybe it wouldn't be such a bad choice. -
Sadly I know that, had friends to go through depression and had a "mild" one myself but I think, if there's even a chance to make the life and well-being of enforcers better you simply have to do it. I don't want to see them suffering also, hence why I don't watch UFC you almost know this guy will have a lot of problem as he ages..but keep in mind the most devasting injuries are coming from full-speed full-geared checks. The game has become too fast, the league should slow it down and look at ways to make the shoulder pads less weaponlike while keeping them at the same safety rate. also the argument "goon = talentless" doesn't hold up these are still guys who have made to the elite junior levels and then for whatever reason couldn't reach the top of the crop, also fighting takes a lot of talent and especially endurance/timing too..so calling them talentless is just false. best example Rinaldo yesterday: Guy ran around like a rabbit on speed, Seidenberg and Robins checked him hard, Robins fought Luke Schenn and won...well after that Rinaldo didn't ran around like a rabbit of speed anymore...that's not just coincidence .)
-
The good thing is Lucic is still not 100 % in game shape, so that at least means hopefully less injuries.

My guess is simple : Weiss doesn't provide the type of play Babcock expects. Even after the signing Babcock talked about different styles in Florida and Detroit. Maybe Holland should have listened to Babcock before signing the guy? That's been a problem since some time now, the Wings overpay for some players but lowball talent and still try to underpay top ufas, that doesn't work. If Weiss doesn't fit, show case him increase his value and look what you can get back fire him. It would be the best option for both sides.

Why would he walk away from 5 million per? Is the nhl unhappy with Quintal? -
Thanks for the gdt, glad hockey is back. For the game itself I'm not expecting much, Boston - even if they took a step back - is still too good. Rask was a wall yesterday
-
Wait till the end of the week if still no takers << waive him, simple.
-
What does Hanto yo even mean ? Let's go ? as for the stupid cap: The only thing different is this: top teams have now to pay a large amount of money in order to support failed franchises and aren't allowed to spend whatever they want. Nothing has changed it's basically LA - Chicago (maybe Blues) versus one of Boston - Pittsburgh.. every year. I am not surprised so many experts are picking the Wings to miss the playoffs, there are just too many question marks and the roster even healthy is really not that good.
-
I'm in the same boat for Wings standards this is a disappointing roster with too many question marks. Bright spots are obviously Tatar, Goose and if he does well XO other than that pretty meh.
-
So glad that trade never happened, with Yzerman began the end of the dead wings era and the rise to the top...oh the good old times.
-
Class gesture and the young girl so adorable.
-
Yes I would, because I think it sucks seeing great locker-room guys, fan-favorites who are having the toughest job in the NHL being faced out. How about supporting them and showing appreciation instead of talking how useless they are ? Depression has a lot to do with perception. Yes I know they are millionaires too, but finding guys who are willing to sacrifice their health for peanuts (compared to other NHL players) and be all around good soldiers is something I can appreciate and support. The problem is once you start with "safety first" - which is good don't get me wrong - where does it end ?We all know it it would be the full cage and almost all physicality, hitting gone that's not something I'M looking forward too.
-
I don't know how to copy a "Twitter link" but here is the quote: Krys Barch @krysbarch Bollig, Bouma, McGrattan. Good luck NHL fourth lines!!!! My advice to them is target the Stars!!! I really hope nobody targets stars, smaller players if there isn't any need to do so.
-
Always glad to provide a laugh. I mean, if those guys want to do it more power to them but I expect a bit more from someone posting on TSN. Dreger & Co. have set the bar very high.
-
The state nerds you know that new TSN guys who seem to provide nothing else, than stupid tables filled with math stuff instead of easy to understand (Goals, Assists, Point Totals) things. I mean, everyone can sit in the basement and play around with excel sheets they didn't need to hire someone for that.
-
If there aren't any trades why not just waive him and make room for XO that way ?
-
Please don't turn that into another pro/anti enforcer thread. My intention was to give inside on how a former NHL player feels degraded;pissed off and is giving his thoughts on which players are harder or easier to play against (we are talking about fourth liners here of course). btw. I'd rather spend time with cool, down to earth heavyweight champs/tough guys instead of some mum's basement dwellers who aren't doing anything other than playing around with Excel state sheets 24/7 and act like know it all smartasses no appreciation more pity for that "new wave"...I would be surprised if one of them ever watched a game without a cam or calculator...
-
According to Babs Holland not "we" [babcock and him] made the decision but whatever.
-
Sure it's a moot point because a fourth line is not that important. I couldn't care less if they score goals or not, their job is simple: keep the other team honest and provide some much needed breaks for the top guys. If Barch would have said it's easier to play against Orr, Toottoo I would have reacted the same way, since this is coming from soneone who has played in this league for quite some time.
-
Yeah because our fourth line is so good at well....nothing ? I'll trust the comment from somebody who has actually played in the NHL and maybe even against all of the mentioned guys. If he says its more difficult to play against Orr, Toottoo I have no reason to question it.It's not like this is coming from a blogger or someone with no NHL experience at all...like it or not our fourth (4) line doesn't worry anybody no matter if skilled or not.
-
Who wouldn't ? Miller brings nothing to the table, Orr is as tough as they come and Toottoo while not as tough will hit everything that moves.
-
Glad for him, guy deserves it. Make the best of it Toots btw. if Brunner hasn't made the roster he goes on waivers right ?
-
Yeah I think the battle will be between them and to be honest I don't really care who stays, although Jurco comes of a bit cocky at times..kid has to become humble. I think that 2 versus 1 vote is stupid, if at all it should be the other way. Babcock has to work with the team day in and day out, so does Granato why aren't they getting a final say ? oh an btw. one more day to sign an extension for Babcock *sigh*
-
So Jurco, Nestrasil have made the team for now and when Pasha is back one will get send down. Why aren't the assistance GM's and coaches getting a vote also ? I hate it, when the GM can overrule the coach I mean Babcock is the one who has to be comfortable with the roster.
