Wings re-sign Cleary $1.5 mill + $1mill in game bonuses

Add me to that list :-) Anyways, Khan talked about that on 105.1 and he stated Cleary never had a contract like that. The Flyers offered only offered him a chance and he basically had to beat out some of their guys in training camp to even earn a roster spot and a contract on that team.

Babcock Interview on 105.1 this morning

The thing with Babcock is, he has proven at every level that he cares about his players so I really believe that. When guys like Weber, Crosby and Toews are talking that highly about another coach that has to mean something. As for his contract situation I think he is downplaying it a bit which is the right thing to do don't get me wrong. Others have mentioned it already what incentive does he have to sign here longterm? Holland is making his job more difficult every year, this roster hasn't improved since 2009 and once Godström retired things went even more on the downside. You just have to look at last season this roster had no business making the playoffs and yet the kids stole the show and somehow Babcock and the boys managed to still do it. This season looks like it may be the exact same roster just one year older so the job for Babcock is (again) more difficult. Why would he deal with that, if he could coach guys like Backes, Statsny, Schwarz, Pietrangelo (having Reeves to stick up for his stars), Crosby, Malkin all soon to be or in their primes ? Super Mario and Burke will pony up whatever amount of cash it takes to lure him to the Pens. If the Wings are missing the playoffs this season I think heads will roll (Holland) and Babcock will be looking for a better opporunity. Don't get me wrong I'd love him to stay but it i clear the direction of this team isn't going the right way, the center depth is almost non existant and nobody knows if Marchenko won't return to the KHL or if Sproul can be that long needed RH offensive d man. Putting myself into his shoes I would really prefer to see how the season - including the Trade Deadline - goes and then decide if I'm still willing to adapt to an ever increasing challenging, when I have the opportunity to coach young superstars on other teams with a brighter future. People who aren't appreciating him now will do so once we are facing a Babcock coached team and our new coach even its Blashill get's absolutely schooled and outcoached. I love his answer about not wanting to be coached and I fully agree with it, if people really don't want to be fairly pushed and coached to become better players then Detroit isn't the place for them. That being said I don't think guys like Ehrhoff or Niskanen are afraid of that they sadly saw better opportunities elsewhere or our offers weren't good enough.

Babcock Interview on 105.1 this morning

Babcock is just the best coach in hockey and I truly believe him when he says he cares about his players. Yeah he can be hard but I also think he knows how to push them without overpushing them I mean, when guys like Toews, Weber, Crosby are willing to sacrifice their own points for the good of the team the coach is doing something right. The only sad part about the whole thing is this: it will be the last year the Wings are playing for him after this year they are playing against a babcock coached team

Rule Changes in the AHL (what the NHL has considered)

All I can say is stop tweaking the game too much. Some of these rules are just stupid. As for the Shootout I don't care either way if it stays it stays if not that's fine also (speaking about the regular season obviously).

Dekeyser signed. 2 yrs $2.187 million AAV

DeKeyser will get paid that's for sure if they lowballing him would be absolutely stupid. The guy is already a top 4 pairing defenseman and will only get better. With the contracts Holland has given out this year, I'm sure both Dekeyser and Tatar expect to get paid. If this famous loyality thing is real for Holland than Tatar deserves a lot that guy played through an incredible tough time and even scored a goal so.

  9. No worries for whatever reason paragraphs aren't working for me, when I'm using tapatalk so I know some problems as well :-) I also agree with you about Kane, he is not 10,5 aav good and I don't think he has the intangibles that Toews brings to the table. My personal theory is, Toews took less so Kane could get an equal deal..As much as it pains to admit it, but this guy is their version of our former #19 The problem with Toews is even if he wanted he can't sign a Crosbylike deal because of the stupid new CBA. Personally speaking I would easily take Crosbys contract over the Toews one because it's hard to argue with 104 million over 12 years, I'm a pretty conservative guy so I value security more than shorter term money. If Rocky Wirtz would have prefered a lower caphit guess what ? Speak up about a certain player hating weasel or even better can him. Also Crosbys contruct struture is now also limited, so Toews can't even take something like 14,14, 14, 14, 3, 3, 3, 3 with all these limitations it is almost impossible to create a lower caphit. The only way to do it is to pay a significant weberlike signings bonus. That being said if I'm Brisson I'm meeting with Toews and Bowman in Switzerland and don't disclose all the details about both contracts. The best part to me is reading how some Blackhawk "fans" would have rather seen him go to UFA then re-sign him to that caphit, they were expecting something like 8 aav *lol*

    Alfie wants to play

Like I said at least sign an enforcer to make the games more entertaining and protect our two superstars + young players. But overall yeah I agree this could very turn into the exact same roster which got embarassed against the Bruins and barely made the playoffs just one year older and with teams now knowing how to play against Nyquist, Tatar...
  11. Toews is easily a top 5 player in the league, also Weber and Crosby are making more than him for the next few years. In 2 years Stamkos is going to shatter their caphit and might even break the 12 aav. There was absolutely no way the Blackhawks would have let either one of them go, both would have gotten maximum deals for their hometown teams and Toews also took less as crazy as that sounds, Kane may be a bit overpaid but whatever.

    Red Wings & the Media

My problem with bloggers is this: In this day and age almost everyone - including me - could create his own blog (all you need is wordpress and some basic css knowledge) dedicated to the Wings but expecting PR/Management access ? I really think that's pushing it. Blogs can be very good, if the bloggert knows how to provide his information. Sadly there are also a lot of bad ones, especially the fanboy or I'll rant about everything ones. Journalists on the other hand should be held to a much higher standard and should be required to fullfill it. Some of them are really going over the line (ie. phoning Reimers mum, calling Seguin out for the ***** joke, running Richards and Carter out of Philadelphia.and of course Cox famous rant about Kessel), if I were the GM I'd be phoning their boss and telling him in a very non candid way about the consequences if another article like this gets published. A good of friend of mine is studying PR and they are told to NOT cross the line. Helen St. James for sure has information but I 've stopped reading her stuff because it's always "they Wings are great, Holland is doing the right thing..." Ansar Khan at least questions some of the moves and provides just as good - if not even better - articles. BUT something has to be done about the Wings video portal: It is horrible: it is so uncessary hard to find stuff such as interviews, there is no structure at all. Take a page out of the blueshirtsunited Rangers site it is well structured, looks different and very easy to navigate and find stuff. Why aren't the Wings doing something similar ? Give the fans an option to rewatch pressers, GM conferences and development analysis from our coaching stuff. That to me is worth more than useless breakfasts and other stuff.

    Red Wings & the Media

I consider myself a big fan of the Red Wings but knowledgable - like this blogger is pushing it - would put it way too far. Anyway, after reading news how the Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Philadelphia and Boston are handling their players I can understand why organisations don't want to give too much out. The only point I somewhat agree is that the team and especially management aren't taking critics very well, as proven by an Email from a poster here a few days ago. But the media has to understand one thing: The job of a hockey organisation is to ice the best possible roster, players are paid to perform on the ice not to be media-monkeys. Putting myself into Kessel's shoes I would have declined every interview with a Torontosun reporter till they are accepting that I'm shy and don#t want to talk to them, till then no comments no interviews. Sometimes the media thinks they are way more important when in reality they aren't even important. btw. for the 24/7 stuff the media considered it "boring" boohoo down to earth hockey players acting like always, so no forced stories or Bryzgalovs quotes for you ? Cry me a river, I thought the insight about Babcocks decisions and how he reacts to pressure have been outstanding.

    Alfie wants to play

"The biggest thing is health," Holland said. "If we can get to training camp (Sept. 19) and get [Pavel], [Henrik], [Darren] Helm, [stephen] Weiss on the ice, we're optimistic we [have] the potential to be a decent hockey club." so if we need to be healthy in order to become a "decent" club what is this team injured ? An atrocious one ? Nothing against Alfie - to me he is the best player Ottawa ever had - and I'd easily put him above Spezza, Heatley but isn't he going for a cup ? I would love seeing or Iggy get one before all is said and done, both are classy guys and both deserve it yet they decide to sign with teams without a chance, strange.

Tom Renney could be leaving, too.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=457204 Renney is now the head of Hockey Canada. Man talk about huge boots to fill, Nichelson had tremendous success with HC. Finding a new GM after back to bback Stevie cups and maybe even a new HC won't be easy. Is this now a promotion or a demotion ? I guess paywise he should make more given that he is responsible for Canada's national sport.

Don't let them get you, I'm for one very happy to have you here and get some nice info about the Preds. The first one was just insane almost an 360 degree circle and then pulling it off like this some serious skill here. Do you think Fiala is ready to make the team ? Nashville for what I know is hurting on the offensive side and I guess LaViolette will play his run and gun style no matter what ?

Bylsma/Shero I wouldbe willing to take a chance on Shero, the guy is a good GM and I still believe the Pens made a huge mistake in firing him. Bylsma no thanks (as an assitatant run the PP) yes, but other than that no ? If you can't get the job done with two of the best - one being the best - player in the world and aren't willing to change your system it doesn't help your case. If Bylsma can figure out how to coach a defensive responsible system with some offense than I would be willing but once we lose Babcock I really hope Blashill gets his chance.

Sure we could miss the playoffs and some will still say the exact same thing and use the exact lame excuses we've been hearing since 2009. Yeah and because this team is so great, many reputable and serious sources are having the Wings as UFA losers. I don't need to be a GM to accept the fact that Holland has become too emotionally attached to a declining roster without a real identity. Niskanen would have been instantly this teams best defenseman so yeah what a horrible contract for a 27 old kid. Haha building through the draft yeah right and that's why he traded away the most promising center prospect and a second for two months of Legwand AND created two of the most hilarious UFA signings. Being too attached happens to the best of them and Holland is no exception here, I just don't understand why the guy doesn't want to move up and let a fresh guy run the show.

Tom Renney could be leaving, too.

Agreed it is damn difficult and given the amount of talent, not easy fixable but like you said Renney is replaceable, so not a tough loss but I wish him the best.
