Shawn Thornton will not be returning to the Bruins
frankgrimes replied to SteelTownWingsFan's topic in General
That's the benefit of having guys like McGrattan on the roster if you take liberties they are not going to ask if you want to fight them, they jump you MacIntyre style. All I can say is watch Marchand bringing a much cleaner game now, because Lucic has been told to fight less and Chiarelli doesn't want Chara to fight either. Thornton is a very special player sometimes - more often than not - father time just sucks. -
Report: NHL to have 5 outdoor games in 2014-15.

I'm sure NBC can do one of their "famous" rivalry nights and create another fake rivalry between Ovechkin/Kane/Toews. But like others have said this event has so run it's course it's not even funny and they certainly won't top last year. What the hell have the caps done to deserve another one and seriously the Blackhawks again? How about the Bolts versus Avs Stamkos versus MacKinnon, Duchene would have been an interesting one and the Bolts deserve to be in there. If the league wants to create something thrilling and exciting again they should have gone with Boston -- Montreal or Montreal - Toronto. -
I feel bad for him, yes I know I shouldn't because of all the money he is making but seriously the guy is human too and has a compete level in him. But man sitting in your over the top mansion, partying it up with hot babes and getting paid millions of $ for not working is like a dream come true. If I'm Y I'm offering him 4,5 for 3 years he can could fill the St. Louis void there. The amount of center depth this year is indeed extremely outstanding: Spezza, Kesler, Richards, Thornton, Statsny wow

Avalanche are taking Ryan O'Reilly to club-selected arbitration
frankgrimes posted a topic in General
source: Bob McKenzie http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=454904 Anyway this screams for some question: 1. what does "club selected" mean? 2. argueing against ROR after this season uh oh not very well done by the Avalanche. If I were him it would piss me off endlessly and I'd tell my agent to get me out of here as soon as possible (sign the shortest possible contract and become UFA). does this also mean that ROR has to sign whatever offer the Avalanche are presenting him with? Questions over questions the offseason just got a bit more interesting leaguewide. -

As would most others if they don't feel appreciated or fairly valued. Yes these guys are multi millionaires but other than that they are just like you and me, wanting to feel appreciated and work in a desirable environment. Its not like the Avs are near the cap so they can easily up their offer they just don't want to do it which is also fine, sign O'Reilly to a one year contract then and let him become Ufa. -

For sure but let's be honest if you have the realistic chance to make around 42 million with a long-term contract instead of lets say 30 for sure you take the better option. Like I said I really understand why players aren't doing favors anymore the Gms can thank a certain new York lawyer for this. I mean lets say the Avs get the arbitration reduced to 5,5 the relationship is ruined and O'Reilly will bolt at his first chance which will not leave a good impression on other ufas. -

I think the Big Bang Theory is one of the worst sitcoms I've ever seen. Not a football fan but after some stuff I read Go Redskins Go, Cowboys >>>> Indians -

Wanting to get paid what you are worth is not being gready, it's the reality thanks to the last lockout. Why should players give their teams any favors ? A NHL career can be very long but it can also be very short so these guys need to make a lot of money, which they obviously do. But seriously if his market value is around 6,5 per and the Avalanche expect a 1 million hometown discount it's not going to happen neither should it. Yeah, Landeskog signed for less but that doesn't mean that O'Reilly has to do the same. Guy would be the perfect winger for Crosby so hopefully the Pens aren't getting him. -
Anaheim not bringing back Hiller, Koivu, and Winnik
frankgrimes replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Can't believe they are letting Winnik walk, guy is an absolute workhose, has good size and can grind like hell. I could easily Hiller signing with the Capitals, they need a proven veteran in net, especially under Trotz who is used to a guy named Rinne..Budreaus just has a talent to ruin goalies come playoff time, I wouldn't have had a lot of confidence in Hiller's case also and the guy is a good goalie, not elite but very capable of being a starter in the NHL. I still think the Jets are going to buyout Pavelec, they just don't want to anounce it till the deal for a guy like Reimer is all but done. -

I highly highly doubt that the Rangers are going to move him, at least not till McIlrath is ready their team is soft and without Dorsett they are even softer. The funny thing is, they are already rumored to be on the Thornton sweepstakes it's like the Rangers never learn. -
Signed Detroit re-signs Gustavsson 1 yr $1.85 mill
frankgrimes replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I think this is a something that happens to every GM no matter how good the guy is. At some point all of them seem to become sentimentally attached to their players and keep them longer as they should. That being said, I highly doubt Holland re-signs Cleary to a 1 way contract if so, yes, then I would be a different GM too. i.e. throw a boat load of money at Chiarelli or Lombardi. Like others have said, there is really nothing wrong with re-signing the monster to such a great contract the guy did well under difficult circumstances and even did a good job against the Bruins. He knows the organisation, the organisation knows him and this is big change to play himself into a bigger and longer contract next year. -

Like I said it is really funny when a team icing the softest fourth line in the league is talking about not having a spot for the definition of a fourth liner with great leadership abilities But i agree with younger enforcer McIlrath - loved that pick from the Rangers - Gazdic, Bordeleaus, Reeves all would be nice and much needed additions to a fourth line nobody in the league takes seriously. As for Thornton watch the Canucks, Flames or Oilers picking him up -
Oh OK thanks at least its longer term so players at least have some security
-
Regular buyout as far as I know is 100 % but over a longer period of time and counts against the cap.
-
Hardly surprising Ekblad has written next Weber and some Printer elements from what I've seen on yt. Guy is going to be a stud for a 1,5 decades if not more
-
wow that's great the guy is the face of this franchise and he can walk into Pretzelmaker without being flooded by fans. Toronto for sure could learn something from them
-
Personally I don't like these parades the players are too far away from the fans, in europe it's a lot closer fans can actually talk, drink with the players and just have a good time. They aren't on a big buses guarded by tons of police. As for the Blackhawks making fun well I have one thing to tell them: get used to it the Kings are here to compete Tankers btw. 2014 SC Champions NOT the suckhawks

I'm sure our front-office has told Howard what they expect from him going forward and that is simple: consistency and be better that's exactly why I'm so happy with the Monster coming back, he has experience and has kept this team in a lot of games, they had no business to be in. Like I said with Mrazek I'll wait and see. Hasek to me was just unreal the style he plays will never be seen again, those were the days... almost seems like forever we've been talking about double digit winning streaks and rolling over 80 % off the league by only giving 80 % if even that.. -
http://forum.canucks.com/topic/360912-canucks-season-tickets-may-be-available-to-those-not-on-the-waiting-list/ I think this is a good thing for Benning and Linden, it shows the organisation that they better fix this team or else their ridiculous high ticket prices aren't going to go over well with a majority of the fanbase there. If I were a Canuck I'd just buy a STH cheap and resell it for twice or triple the pricetag. But man going from waiting list to an exhausted list in only one year is wow.

Very happy with that signing and pricetag welcome back MONSTER -
Whereever he ends up I hope he can walk into a grocery store there without being bothered by fans and just be a normal person off the ice. The Blues would be a fantastic fit for him, even if Spezza isn't a 200 ft player Pietrangelo, Bouwmeester will more than make up for some mistakes. Personally I also thought Nashville would be a good fit for him, elite defense and goaltending plus some young forwards who could need a veteran leader. My list would be: Vancouver, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary, Florida, Buffalo, Phoenix, Carolina, New York Island, Canadiens would he be a good fit here ? Yeah but we don't have the assets to aquire him and I highly doubt a guy like him accepts a third line center role behind Z and Pasha..

frankgrimes replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I don't want more from him, I'm just keeping my expectations realistic and like others said at some point we are going to see whats the deal with him. But I don't expect him to come in and keep up this ridiculous 1,8 GAA. Same with some other young players I fully expect some of them to have a tougher year 2 it's part of the development so no worries here. -
Murray is dealing from a position of weakness here he has a tight budget and knows players on elcs or young prospects are cheap in terms of salary. According to tsn Spezza has all Canadian teams on his list at some other bottom feeders. Good job Canadian media running a first line center out of town, last pizza liner gone

There are a lot of guys who have done well over such a small period of time but I think you really need to see a bigger picture like 30 games for two seasons to really get a better evaluation -
Still can't believe the PA agreed to that
