Wings should be considered very lucky if they get a second for Vanek. If Green returns a first it would be a very high one but Picks and prospects are needed more than anything. No way getting into Foote territory.with either one

It's been going on for some years even under Babcock. This team is falling behind and they never start to play dirty and play harder. Part of it is this team isn't built for it (wrong players) and another part is...well coach and GM have to figure it out. The novelty of LCA will wear of quickly if there is nothing to get excited about, which means either cup contender or having young elite players as a preview of a bright future. Yes Blashill will be the scapegoat but that doesn't fix the flaws with this team, that's why i want a guy like Nichelson to evaluate everything and then make recommendations to Mr. I or Chris.
-
Pull an Edmonton hire someone like Nichelson to evaluate everything. Mr. I must be furoius this is a cap team and not even close to being competitive. Just accept the end of the streak and start listening to offers for Green, Vanek and company heck everyone should be available Blame Blashill all you want, but going through the motion and playing without heart has nothing to do with coaching. The flaws with this team seem to be much deeper.

Package him up with Tatar, Goose and hope someone has an expendable top 4 defender to offer. Last thing a rebuilding team needs is a prima donna!

Ducks L Kings without Quick they aren't as scary so maybe an OTL Sharks L Pens L Habs L Hawks L Stars W their defense sucks Bruins W they have trouble scoring and defense needs work So I guess around 5 plus an unexpected ot point here and there is realistic which obviously isn't enough to make up ground but it dramatically improves the chance to land one of Nolan, Liljegren or Foote and that's more important.

01/01 GDT : Red Wings vs Maple Leafs : Centennial Classic : 3:00 PM ET

Mantha is awesome, guys played hard and still lost which is the best outcome can't complain about that. Matthews looks like he is going to be a stud soon. Now Isles and Nucks need to win and the Wings could find themselves in top picks territory again. -

That's still not real outdoor game stuff. A winter classic without snow just sucks. -

a winter classic and sunshine...., stupid climate change. SNOW is needed, it should be very cold in order to resemble real outdoor hockey -
happy for Prout, Werenski, Jones and Jenner There is no way they can keep up this physicality play sadly

Nr.1 goalie is out, Coreau played well enough to earn the opportunity so he deserves this chance

Things don't need to be comolicated, game had 2 stories 1. Alfie alfie retirement 2. Wings win in ot Isles are approaching Avalanche mode quickly, thought they were easier to outtank -
Discuss the internal prices for every(!) player and if they are met or close to be met that player is gone. Let it be known leaguewide by leeking it to Dreger, MacKenzie and Lebrun who is available and give them a hint at the price-tag and needs of the team. Of course if the name is Larkin, Mantha others have to pay a lot next category is AA, Danny D. Hire Gallant as an assistant and give Blashill till the trade dead line to develop the young guys without looking at the standings too much. Start looking at the top 10 picks and prepare for every possible scenario. Send scouts to Winnipeg (Trouba), Anaheim (Fowler) and work the phones till something gets done. Call up Bertuzzi and other AHL talent and evaluate if they could be part of the rebuild. Trade Vanek, Green as long as their value is high and create as much cap space as possible to take advantage of teams in cap hell come next June. Prepare for a successor and offer to take more of a Burke, Linden or Nichelson role once my contract is up. So the plan would be: 1. evaluation of everyone and everything, including scouts responsible for defenseman. 2. everyone no exception is available 3. get as many prospects, picks as possible 4. play the kids and get the best possible lottery odds
-
Start Coreau, call up some kids who could have a future with the team and start listening to offers for Vanek, Green and look for goaltending help. God 1997 seems like it's been an eternity such an unbelievable team. This sorry edition can't even win with them in the house.

Which used to be a huge advantage but now every team has that. So it's way harder to find diamonds in the later rounds. Key players? There are probably like 3 to 4 players on this roster now that could be key players in the future. These prospects won't even see the NHL for at least 2 more years. Yeah because some of them worked out so well, let's forever have more soft Euros who aren't as a good as Michigan boys right? There needs to be the right mixture. You need players who are willing to do the dirty work, stand up for teammates, block shots and play through everything like Stevie did...most Euros are too soft and small for this kind of game. On the other hand they can provide some skill and fancy plays which is still needed but lile Insaid there needs to be a balance.
-
Did I say that? No, but I would look at possible solutions including getting a top pick. Of course Burns just signed an extension so he is going nowhere.
-
Wanna know what increased the Sharks window? The emergence of Burns. As soon as Thornton hangs the skates up it's rebuild time Burns, Pavelski and Couture can't carry the load all alone. I list the Blues as a success because they never had as high expectations as the sharks did. To me the job of a GM is to oversee the organization from top to bottom, surround himself with the right people (see Toronto), have an honest view on where the team is and act accordingly. Is it a lot to ask for? Of course but it's a very well paid job with a lot of power so it's not going to be easy.
-
Well seems like getting those guys isn't as easy as some people think it is. You need to finish bottom 3, draft and develop them and surround the elite guys with solid players which Yzerman, Botterill and Armstrong have done. Yeah the Blues haven't won anything but given where they were and the place they are now, so Armstrong did a good job. MacKenzie talked about how difficult a rebuild is and that you need more phases than just starting over and drafting high. But if a GM isn't willing to do a scorched earth one the rebuild never reaches phase one so it doesn't even start, see Burke and Toronto, Benning and Vancouver, Wilson and the Sharks Of course the GM has to ask the owner because it's their money and if I were Mr. I I would have stepped in and declined some trades, signings.

Sabres are in town so it's a chance to watch Eichel.

Well till I've seen a source claiming that he ownership is putting any constraints on Holland I have a hard time believing it. But even if it isn't I don't think Holland is the guy for a real rebuild. Look at Toronto under Burke the team needed a rebuild and he just wouldn't admit it or act in the best longterm interests because he never had to do one. Botterill has seen the Pittsburgh rebuild, Brisebois the Tampa Bay one and Armstrong the Blues. Of course the guy I would really really want is under contract and might even sign an extension after his current one is up but there are options, that have experienced a rebuild. Yeah, the Wings are an Original 6 team and should get the best of the best but sadly neither the best coach nor GM are available.
-
Jason Botterill, Don Maloney, Doug Armstrong (if the Blues move on from him), Brisebois (AGM in Tampa) The Wings can honor his contract by making him vice president of hockey too. Draper would be the wrong choice, he doesn't have the experience and he doesn't know how to do a rebuild either. Love the player but that wouldn't end well make him the interim GM till someone who the Wings really want is available.
-
As a GM the guy is in over his head, he never had to do a rebuild so I'm not blaming him for that. Holland should have handed the keys over to the captain, move up as a VP and do this thing the right way after Wings failed to land Suter. Wings need elite prospects to get this team into the next area, right now there are some solid and hopefully 2 very good ones in Mantha and Larkin (also the highest picks). But to get the elite ones a team needs to be bad draft and develop them. It's the current system and until the next cba there is no way around it.
-
Nice but Avs, Arizona and Vancouver need to start winning so the wings can get into a top 5 position again.

Which End of the Ice Do you Find Most Frustrating?
frankgrimes replied to bringbackfontez's topic in General
Offense may win you some games, but defense wins championships so the answer is obvious. There is a reason why coaches and GMs are quoted like .." you are building from the backend"..
