Sorry but this isn't true. Russia - Canada is THE international rivalry in hockey, it's pure hatred filled with a lot of emotions dating back to many memories even form UDSSR and cold war times. USA - Canada is intense and hatred but Russia - Canada is still on another level. I also agree, that the rivalry between Finland - Sweden is underrated they can't stand eachother at all and I wouldn't hesitate to compare it with USA - Canada in terms of hatred. There are really some good rivalries sadly we don't see them as often as we are used to, since the ranking formats in tournaments are getting changed too often.

So far the USA have been the best team, but there are obviously some buts as with every team: The game against Russia should have been lost, the no goal was a gift. Other than the game againsat Russia they've also had an easy road in the RR. Slovakia and Slovenia are not exactly powerhouse teams. Same can be said for Canada versus Norway and Austria, their only test so far has been Finland and they did beat them although not in an impressive fashion. The difference between these two teams to me is obvious, for Canada the defense has come through and is carrying their struggling forward group as for the US the offense just keeps on producing, especially Kessel. Anyway, it's obvious that some of the Canadian stars such as Crosby, MSL, Kunitz (wow does he suck), Tavares need to step up their games in a huge way. The game against Finland has been a perfect example why you need a guy like Lucic, he can create space and force his way to the net, because of his immense frame. Something I've noticed is, that Canada is having the same problems as the Wings, overthinking, overpassing and not crashing the net, which is very interesting given the amount of talent Canada has. Imagine if Canada would have picked Neal also, they would have had to not only think about Kunitz but also about him, doged a bullet there. Russia also hasn't been on top of their game but their defense seems to be better than I thought at first. Sweden is - no surprise - having trouble with scoring and creating chances but I wouldn't count them out either. Another team nobody seems to be talking about are the Swiss, their defense and goaltending has been stellar so far that's certainly a team I wouldn't underestimate they are for sure able to pull off an upset against some of the better teams. -
NHL players will not participate in 2018 Olympics (Mod Post #99)

It would just end up as a big after show, comparable to the hockey championsleague, world cup aso. Just goes to show us, how far apart from reality all these commissioners IIHF wannabe leaders and some owners - hello Snyder - are. NHL players and even ones of the "lowere" leagues would thankfully decline to play in such a meaningless tournament. -

Personally I really have to thank you, I'm now a big fan of Curling especially the Russian curling team too *g* Wondering if Radulov will get benched guy cost Russia the game. If he does that in the semi finals...wow. Gotta feel bad for Norway, generation change is coming and they don't have a lot of prospects thanks to too many foreigners playing in the norwegian league, so young players aren't getting a fair chance nor enough icetime. Whats funny to me is, how everyone thought Vanek would be the big star on team Austria so far it's been Grabner. For Canada I'd give it to Doughty/Benn they are playing marvelous. -
Austria - Germany Finland - Sweden Norway - Denmark Russia - Canada Slovenia - Slovakia Canada - USA is a big rivalry but I think. Canada - Russia tops that Sent from my BlackBerry

Its true hockey benefits enormously as a whole. CNN has Oshie on the ront-page, everyonen is talkitng about what a great game that was. Fans in Europe are getting a chance to watch their countrymen at much better manageable hours, which again benefits the sport. Going to the Olympics does so much more for the game than things like putting hockey into areas that don't even know what snow is. So good for Kaner to speak it out take that Ed moron Snider. -

The Blues are my team in the West again, so many likeable players and they have built this team without tanking AND on a small internal budget, so that's extremely impressive. Their loyal fans deserve a winner and it would be good for the whole city, if the Blues could bring in a cup. -

I've read some reports on McDavid where reporters are claiming he could be even better than Crosby when all is said and done. This means, whichever team gets the pick won't accept a trade If there is one year to suck it has to be next year, McDavid - Mantha would be an absolute scary top combo for the next 15 years. The biggest problem will be, that almost every damn team will be trying to suck as much as possible in order to pick this kid. I almost feel for him, the guy is 16 or 17 and already has all the pressure on his shoulders. For the deadline I would say we should be sellers.

From an outside view I'm really looking forward to the game Russia - USA. It will be far the best one of in the RR I think Americas speed is too much to handle for the Russian defense, but Russias top 6 is scary good. Finland will be Canadas first test tomorrow so far I've been impressed by Weber, Doughty, Carter and I really thought Duchene played a great game against the Austrians. Their captain Vanek should learn a thing or two from Kopitar yeah it's not easy to be the guy on a weak team, the best player needs to be your best player. Crosbys line still isn't working surprise surprise ...Kunitz on the big ice doesn't work I would try MSL on Crosbys wing. Sweden is now in a really tough spot, the defense wasn't good to begin with and now their top 6 has to find a way to replace Z. -
Z is a true warrior, has national pride and so he played through it. I don't care that much about the NHL season, he had the chance to captain his country at the olympics that's a once in a lifetime moment for players. If I had to take something away from the Z or Pasha situation, it would be this: I have even more respect for them now, they are putting their teammates, countries over themselves and basically are playing through everything. We are so lucky, to have these two guys and I'm incredible proud to have such great player in a winged wheel. There are more important things in life than hanging on to a very impressive playoff streak. If I had to choose between both of them captaining their respective teams OR making the playoffs I'd go with the first choice because they've given so much to this franchise, time to give them something back. Also I don't care what the doctors are seeing both are superb trained athletes we are going to see them again in the olympics book it

Canada didn't have to do more so why waste energy? Also Norways ticket tto the Olympics was.their structured system,.they've played to keep the score down, which is smart. I thought Haugen played lights out and was better than Price. Norway and Austria are the underdogs in this group and if they try to play with either Finland or Canada the scores would be ugly. Look at Austria lost 4:8 against the fins, because like Slovakia they didn't play it smart. It's just day one but obviously I'm impressed by Norway and America -

Well if your tablet/handy is supporting flash you can watch them on streams, mute it and record the thing (if there are apps for that). Other than that I'm in the same boat but can't do anything about it, the timeframe just......well...sucks -

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?
frankgrimes replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
Ilike this too but at the end of the day, every GM would say something like that otherwise you know...they would be admitting a huge mistake AND showing distrust into their player. Brian Burke also said he would do the Kessel trade everytime again, when everyone knows no one would do that trade again. -
I don't think any GM in his right mind would give up a top 4 guy for Kindl + a prospect (unless it's one we don't want to give up!) or a very good first round pick. I'm honestly warming up to the idea of overpaying for Girardi if he hits UFA, the benefit is it would cost nothing only a bit of an overpayment but capspace is useless if you don't use it so.
