Well if it were just for the team you might be right but I doubt players are willing to give up their privacy. Even when the Wings were the top dogs players still had their privacy that's never going to be the case in Toronto, see Stamkos. I mean, according to Vanek the Islanders do have another Problem which is their transit and of course playing in an NBA arena in Brooklyn.

If there is a guy who could do it it's him for sure but man such a big challenge. Ruthless media and fanbase which means top players won't sign there so they have to draft extremely well

winning fights, hitting people and being an intimidating force can help win games..I know it's new to some but it's part of hockey and something that makes the game exciting Just like crushing sacks in the nfl

Fundamental shift in the way the game is played?
frankgrimes replied to grimace1970's topic in General
It's not uncalled for and it shows how tough and hard it is to be a successful coach in this league , guys like Cooper aren't the norm. Look at guys like Bednar, Eakins, Travis Green, Ralph Kruger (GM somewhere in football) all good successful AHL coaches who have trouble coaching an NHL team. The question to me isn't if Blashill will learn and become better because I'm sure he will...but will he be able to out coach coaches on better teams? Who knows. Also keep in mind firing a coach also means a GM basically admits he messed up. Gallant in Florida was chosen by Tallon so it's different. Gulutzan was hired by Treliving for example so his leash just like Blashills will be long. Personally I would like to see Blashill going with the guys who are seen as the future good or bad and showcase the players with expiring contracts to contenders and Vegas. I mean where is the harm in bringing in Gallant? An advisor who can help out Blashill is a good thing. There is no cap on coaches might as well use that and create a front office behemoth like Toronto. -
He is too big, tough, gritty and young for Holland and company which is just a same because a fourth liner isn't there to score..sure he scores but in a much more entertaining different way and man can he throw.

Ya well then name me a better and available coach? Options are Gallant, Hartley, Roy and oh yeah the former Edmonton coach. Just for the record I would like Gallant as an assistant and advisor and if things go south with Blashill have him as a replacement because he really got wronged in Florida and the guy is not a bad coach. -
we both have a different approach on how to fix this team but I fully agree with you it's really too bad that the ignore option doesn't work with tapatalk on Android and BlackBerry.

no number 1 defenseman , no number 1 center and nothing in the pipelines name me a coach that can develop a system under those circumstances which makes this team a contender? Babs did a fantastic job getting them into the playoffs but he still had Pasha which obviously helped. Larkin, Mantha and AA are good talents Larkin has a lot of potential but I highly doubt he'll reach elite levels which would just be an unfair expectation. What this team needs is elite talent and a ton of picks so they can increase the chance of finding a raw diamond. I agree other than Larkin drafting has been very bad the last few years, especially the Chychrun screwup. I just hope they are bad enough to get a really good pick something along the lines of Nolan to Foote would just be superb -
Ott and Hamonic are great

lose in regulation please top 5 pick here the wings come would love to see Coreau getting the start

12/3 GDT - Red Wings @ Penguins - 7:00 PM EST

Happy for Kessel really like the guy it's also the best outcome for the team since Vancouver won, need to hope that isles win tonight and the wings could be back in the running for a top 5 pick. -
when I'm thinking of current power forwards it's players like Jamie Benn, David Backes and of course Loooch Guys that can do it all score, hit, fight and create space for other players
-
Safe for some injuries I think price is going to do what King Henrik did
-
I like JVR but I'm disappointed that he doesn't seem to play a heavy game given his massive and well trained frame. The Wings are in no position to give up their first rounder this year because it could be the first top 10 or even top 5 in decades trading that for a rental would be stupid.

Jimmy Howard out 1 week+ with groin injury, Coreau called up
frankgrimes replied to Jacksoni's topic in General
There is nothing to discuss when Howard has been much better and even the best player in this team -

is this Mrazek versus Howard discussion still going on? Howard has been flat out better period. If Mrazek wants to be the started he has to be consistent and flat out better for more than 2 or 3 games it's that simple. -
If thats the day Sakic hired him then yes. I think it's a mistake and would love Gallant as a coach but I know it won't happen maybe the Isles are going to fire Capuano and hire Gallant now, guy wont be without a job for long.

Panthers didn't need to change anything especially not replacing their GM and trading away the face of their franchise in Gudbranson. Injuries and focusing on the wrong stuff has them fallen from grace. Rowe and his stupid new school approcah can go f*** off, he doesn't have the experience of a guy like Tallon nor does he have the coaching experience of Gallant. Will be fun to see him in a GM and coaching role ala Roy back in the days with the Avs.

I was born in Germany, then moved over to Switzerland so I could be closer to my chick. Germany is A country with a hockey league worse than the ECHL and a bunch of foreigners taking away spots from good more deserving local kids. And yet the league is miles away from anything worthwhile. Also I don't think Pulkinnen, Frk and company will do much with their new teams when I'm talking about assets I mean guys you can throw in to get a better player or guys to move up in the draft. I don't care if it's outdated and simple (I like being simple minded no reason to make things complicated), minded a lot of my experience watching games has taught me that and I won't change that opinion , period. Playing a heavy game means finishing your check, blog shots, box out other players and stick up for your team Mates, I've yet to see vanek doing something like this... Like I said the sad reality is guys like Landeskog, Chara and Gudas are the exception not the norm. It's not mine or Don Cherry's fault that most euros aren't playing a heavy game. I admit I didn't watch a lot of games and the ones I did were so boring I fell asleep that's how great this team is to watch... so maybe Vanek did all that But if so name me the games so I can watch it.
-
Which assets? If some of the players were as valuable as some people think some other teams would be willing to offer something the Wings need, without giving up the top guys like Larkin, Mantha. I personally think Green, Vanek (if they keep it up) should fetch a second rounder as a return. You don't have to like it but I don't agree with the bold it's a fact and experience from watching them play and I'm a Euro myself but it's just true, so I don't see any reason why the truth shouldn't be mentioned. Guys that play big like Chara and Landeskog are the exception and sadly not the norm. Even if it were 2020 the truth is the truth. Are you honestly comparing Holmer to Vanek? Holmer was one of the best net front presence ever and he basically gave his body for the team. Exactly I honestly can see both of them getting a 3 to 4 year extension before they are traded because "the streak"
-
Euro - check Over 30years - check Plays a soft game, not known for his work ethic - check Result: Extension from Holland (as sad as it is) Fact is, Green and Vanek should be used as assets if they continue to have a good season maybe a contender would be willing to overpay.
-
Trade him and hope for a nice asset or second rounder. But with Holland you never know altough the wings need assets assets and assets
-
Well, maybe just maybe he wasn't the best choice for this team going forward? Again, I'm not blaming him but I really found it odd that Holland interviewed nobody else. Personally I wanted the Koala as the next head coach. Agreed this mess is truly the managements fault but nothing will happen or change because Chris is always the last man in and the first one out, I don't get the feeling that he is really into it which is sad. Holland will for sure ride out his contract and then the Captain has to fix his mess which will be a tough task. Personally I'm starting to hope whenever Chris takes fully over that he sells the Wings to someone like his dad, Pegula etc. Having a non fan as an owner is never a good thing.
-
why are people so surprised? This is a CAP team without a number 1 center, number 1 defenseman and no stars. So that means either rookies or career second line centers have to play way over their abilities and so far it shows with the results. Will Holland get fired? No, because Chris isn't like his dad at all he is a business guy first and a fan third or fourth. People can blame Blashill all they want but the fact is you can't turn an old Ford into a Ferrari no matter how many parts you change. He doesn't have much to work with and lacks experience which isn't his fault.

Fowler, Trouba (steal of a contract) and oh there is a guy named Chychrun...
