GDT: Capitals 4 @ Red Wings 3 (SO)

Despite being 4th there are some concerns going on, at least for me. Kenny is still thinking his mantra of you want to play for the DetroitRedWings? We are going to pay you fign salary but it won't be your market-value...is still working. Well it is not, this has been a team in transition for how many years now? I thought the season after the last cup-run in 2009 (= 2010) should have been the one to "blow it up a bit". At that point everyone knew the perfect human would only be playing on a year to year contract, so it was either time to find a replacement (can't fault Kenny for Suter going to the Wild) or go young. Kenny did neither, This is a franchise that has been - let's be honest - hanging on the last few years, as the current core got older and older, retired or flaout left for family reasons they were never replaced. Back when Holmer retired, I felt like o..O well his retirement might hurt the PP more than people think and it turned out to be true. So while the perfect human will and can never be replaced grinders like Holmer or guys like Stuart can and should for sure have been replaced either internally or via UFA signings, so god thanks for Danny K who is also a Michigankid. Also I am starting to question the draft strategy, nothing wrong with boom or bust picks but personally I would prefer a mixture betweeen the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs drafting style = draft some big bodied saver picks AND some boom or bust not one way or the either. I know I know, it's incredible hard to do and accomplish but if this scouting stuff is as good as everyone thinks, they need to show it again. Mantha, Tatar and McKee were great picks but I would like more guys like big Mäci added to the mix. Anyway the time to introduce the young players - for better or worse - should have been long ago or at least this season, having them dominate the minors is nice and all bnut at some point a team needs to throw them into the big water and see if they swim there and not be scratched everytime they are makinga mistake, because the veterans need playing time... Also be to fair, I'm not blaming Howard or monster for any of the losses, the goaltenders have to be play a nearly perfect game all night, if the offense can't produce more than 2 (!) goals in 80 % of the games. When Pasha and Z are having an off night there is nobody to step up offensively, Tatar for sure is working his butt off and trying hard but you can't expect a basically rookie to be as dominate as the only two remaining stars on a questionable roster. I think, I've said it before but personally I would have no problem with the streak coming to an end but seeing the development of the promising young guns and letting them learn how to become the next core of this team, because the current core isn't going last forever. If you can't score more than 3 goals against a team with a questionable defense, trouble awaits and no it won't get better, these are the first signs of things to come, if the front office doesn't realize the sad truth and that is........that a rebuild is going to knock on the door faster and faster do I like it? no, but it won't be as bad with guys like Tatar, Anderson, Nyquist, DeKeyser, Smith are nice pieces to build around although stars need to be added via UFA. Just a classy move from Pasha to almost say sorry for the record, I think it's the other way around: thank you Pasha for all the joy you are providing to fans with your magician like skills sadly I wish, the team could reward you with another cup before your contract is up

    Patrick Eaves on Waivers

Way to go make an already soft and old team even softer and older. Best of luck to Eaves always like the guy, can easily see a team like the TorontoMapleLeafs or BuffaloSabres claiming him.

    An honest question about Nyquist

To bad we won't be seeing him in the NHL before 2019..

    Versteeg traded to Chicago

Hate so say it, but I like that deal a lot for the Blackhawks. If Versteeg can be a good player again, they just got a top 6 forward for 2,2 million caphit if not, low risk and they can add him to the third line.

Cleary in, Tatar out against Caps

Marsh: Do you know something about big business (NHL) decisions? Babcock: Oh yes, roster decisions are a big deal --> Phase 1: Play my bff's despite effort Phase 2: ??? Phase 3: Points? In all seriousness I think Tatar and Nyquist are showing a lot of class, I am sure some other players would have told their manager to make it clear, that they are open for a trade.

    Outs and Ins, Buffalo Style.

I think the Sabres despite the on ice product are in great hands, this Pegula guy really reminds me of Mr. I and the fans there deserve that. The timing may be odd but sometimes a change of culture is needed.

11/12 GDT : Jets 3 at Red Wings 2 (SO)

Well I hope he is singing a different tune in the locker room, because the expectations should be to absolute dominate and crush bottom feeders without having to give anything close to 100 % you know DetroitRedWings style like not average team style like. Maybe the coaching and front office really lacks the fire to get this team back to where the fans want it to be.

11/12 GDT : Jets 3 at Red Wings 2 (SO)

if this streakyness continues I highly doubt this team will see yna playoff-round (save for watching it from home) obviously

11/12 GDT : Jets 3 at Red Wings 2 (SO)

Agreed watching some other teams play, who at least have some guys doing the physical stuff or staged fights, if they feel like their team could need some energy is often more entertaining than watching this 2 player roster...

    Datsyuk in shootouts

I think even if you have magic hands like him it's still a 50:50 chance, just hit the puck slightly wrong and you miss. I think the best shootout moves are the "easy" ones like Setoguchi has shown go in there and rip the puck as hard as you can stick side.

11/12 GDT : Jets 3 at Red Wings 2 (SO)

Wouldn't say that but I'm starting to want Chiarelli or Stevo Y more and more as his hopefully soon successor. Kenny is a mastermind and all that but I think he lacks the passion and fire to lead this team to be the class of the NHL again. Those are the damn DetroitRedWings use the power and wealth of this franchise in order to get things done and stop overpaying for veterans, if a guy like Pietro is RFA offersheet him the worst thing that can happen, is the other teams are going to match it so what? Just try it, the defense isn't good enough but at least young and therefore learning but the offense safe for the only two stars on this team is garbage.

11/12 GDT : Jets 3 at Red Wings 2 (SO)

Not even mad if the DetroitRedWings can't even win against bottom feeders at home(!) things aren't exactly looking good. Kenny said he is giving himself 20 games to see, where the roster is...well GM you have your work cut out for you and not a lot of cap to work with. Pasha was absolutely gassed why not bring him later in the shootout? Free up Nyquist ..if only this team had a goalscorer oh wait there was a guy named Brunner too bad he is under 30...
  13. frankgrimes

Nail Yakupov, as told to Igor Larionov...or not.

He is KHL bound for sure, guy seems to have attitude problems and a NBA personality.. Back when the Oilers drafted him I thought trading down and getting a defender plus a nice forward should have been the way to go. Now they have to sell low and certainly aren't getting a lot for him.

Stamkos breaks leg in Boston this afternoon

Not even Canada can replace a guy like him but my guess would be Lupul.
  15. I love fighting but thugs don't have a place on hockey, no doubt whatsoever that Emery has to pay for that soon. I'd say treat it as an assault with 10 games plus. Goaliefights are nice if both are willing otherwise screw it. Holtby should have pulled a Kessel and absolutely smashed this idiot with his stick. Can't wait till the TorontoMapleLeafs and Bruins are coming to Philly, MacLaren running through the net and smashing him into the boards would be fun to watch.

Stamkos breaks leg in Boston this afternoon

God so tough to watch, kid is an absolute humble superstar he reminds me a lot of Stevo Y. Stamkos in my mind is b far the most dangerous goalscorer in the game, lightning fast and his shot is like a laser all the best and a speedy recovery

    An honest question about Nyquist

TSN mentioned it, when it was drafted as one of the reasons for his "fall"

Let's Get Stevie Y to Join the Alumni!

I really really believe Stevo Y is going to be the next in line once Kenny steps it up. I mean, this guy is the captain he is learning the pros/cons of being a GM and seems to know how to rebuild a team. He is loved by the fans and players respect him too, it doesn't get better than that. Personally I'd like to see him throw the first faceoff puck and getting a big standing ovation with Stevie Stevie chants from the crowd.

    An honest question about Nyquist

That's the problem with drafting high risk / high reward, nobody can for sure say how each of them is going to do in the long run, but given the current support cast for Z and Datsyuk it's obvious that this team needs help. I expect Tatar and to a lesser extent Nyquist to become serviceable players far from being (super)stars but at least regulars. At the end of the day, the DetroitRedWings need to get bigger, stronger and a lot harder to play against so drafting more guys like McKee (big hardnosed, intimidating) should be on the agenda for the bottom 6. My hopes for Jurco aren't high, awesome hands but undersized and work ethic problems something a guy like Babcok is far from being a fan off, I see him more as a trade chip.

Zetterberg wearing the "C" for Sweden? THN thinks so.

Good choice if true, the only other obvious one should have been Henrik Sedin or maybe the King.

    Bryz to Oilers

I think Timmay is an outstanding teammate, it's good to stick to your ideals. The series this guy played against the Vancouver Canucks - an unreal offensive powerhouse in 2011 -was one if not the best goaltending performance I've seen in along time. Bryzgalov on the other side is attention hungry, has a questionable attitude and is playing in a hockey mad market now this screams trouble.

    11/9 GDT: Lightning 3 @ Red Wings 2 (OT)

Glad I'very missed the game but also happy to see Stevo Y doing well as a GM, the Bolts are training him well for his next duties :-) Streaky, streaky and streaky the DetroitRedWings 2013 - maybe give the monster a couple of starts and rest Howie?
  23. frankgrimes

    What would you do?...

Given two facts: 1. MacDavid draft 2. offense is questionable after Z and Pasha I would say go from retool into rebuild in terms of offense: let the veterans walk, re-sign monster and DeKeyser and bring up more youth from the Rapids. Finally buyout stop gaps If the DetroitRedWings are going to suck the price atnthe end will be a generational one ;-)

D Justin Schultz signs with Oilers

Why? He wanted to play in Canada, Edmonton is providing Schultz with top minutes which will help his development in the long run.

Let's Get Stevie Y to Join the Alumni!

This screams advertisement and using the captain for something like that is a shame. I would love seeing Stevo Y lacing em up again but his knees are bad and he is the GM of another organization.
