Wishing him all the best in the world a speedy recovery and that he will be fully healthy soon for you guys. Good luck!
-
It's just practice there is no way this combination will start next game

I really don't understand the Weiss versus Filps debate, Filps is gone and I am happy that he is doing well but both of these guys aren't the answer to the DetroitRedWings problems. You built from the net out (which is set with a great Howard/Gustavsson duo), the defense (work in progress to put it friendly..) and then the forwards (2 stars other than that meh meh meh). Needs are a pure goalscorer and a powerplay quarterback but lets be honest Kenny will not get these guys if he isn't willing to take some gambles. I think Chris Letang and Nicklas - sadly not the perfect human - kronwall would be a very good first pairing, Malkins contract is up after this season so the Pens are looking at a 9 m caphit soon and Letang comes at a fair 7,25 m caphit also Phaneuf will be available this year. The question to me still remains, what are the strong skills in Weiss game? if he is a "pure" playmaker you need to provide him with a goalscorer simple as that.
-
I honestly believe, Vanek will be looking at at least 50 m over at least 6 years or something like that. I wouldn't give up a 1st (could be the best one the DetroitRedWings have had since a looooong time) + Mrazek + Tootoo/Eaves. Tootoo I'd drive to the airport for John Scott! Mrazek should be used as an asset but not for a rental player, the first only if the Sabres and DetroitRedWings would be changing their picks (I'd love to get Buffalos 1st round pick!!!)
-
I think this trade has to be based on the fact, if (yes/no) Vanek re-signs there if he doesn't I guess they could try to move him at the tdl to a contender. Moulson does what he is supposed to do - score goals but there is no way he is going to re-sign with such an atrocious team. The Sabres might very well be the worst team in the NHL right now just wait till they are trading away Ryan Miller (going to end up in St. Louis or Pittsburgh..) The Isles are still a top goaltender and a #1 defenseman away from being legit but it is start and I am happy for their franchise, the fans have suffered long enough.

:" we like our team "
-
Wow just wow and s certain GM couldn't top that offer? IF Vanek re-signs with the Isles they win this trade if not Snow needs to me fired.
-
the problem I see is other Gm's aren't dumb they know how desperate this team is for the next Lidstom personally I'd say whatever the asking price for a true 1 is give it a serious look ORR finally start the rebuild. I couldn't care less about extending the streak, I want a team that's fun to each and tough to play against!
-
used to be puck possession but atm I'am not sure whatever it is ... it doesn't work. I feel a bit sorry for Weiss but if him and the DetroitRedWings are a missmatch Kenny needs to trade him at the tdl and admit his mistake. I. hope it doesn't come to that point but you need to be prepared.
-
Well Kenny should have done a better job, preparing this team for the post perfect human. Going after Surer was great but how about a plan B or C? Also why not use the DetroitRedWings wealth to offersheet a guy, whom Babcock compared to the perfect human in terms of hockey IQ? Yes, getting top guys isn't easy but the mastermind needs to become one again if this team wants to return to being the class of the NHL and getting the damn players they want! Looking at the upcoming Ufa class there are two guys which could help the DetroitRedWings out tremendously both are captains of their teams of course Vanek =goalscorer and Phaneuf PP quarterback but it will take a very serious offer and a frontoffice commited to improvement. Also Babcock needs to find a system this team = worst in 20 years = is capable to play.

Just my personal point of view, but I've seen much better ones from HNIC and I didn't like that one. The music was a bit too slow for hockey

GDT 10/26 GDT Rangers 3 at Red Wings 2 (OT)

I am really starting to think the DetroitRedWings as a whole organization are becoming too sure of themselves. Let's face it, Kenny hasn't had to change a lot for a long period of time but now the times are changing and he needs to change his approach. Filling up an already veteran loaded team with more veterans isn't the way to go but Babcock is also to blame here, the DetroitRedWings needed a pure goalscorer - screw defense someone has to put the puck into the net right? - for some years now once they've found one, Kenny didn't re-sign him because of a different ~ 500.000 on a two year basis...but yet signed Alfie and Weiss to such ridiculous contracts. The defense is becoming younger and more mobile good thing but a true #1 defenseman might be needed in the future (I know they are hard to get thanks to the damn parity), although right now I think Babcock is asking way too much out of Kronwall and the guy is clearly playing out of his comfort-zone (he has to ). The top 6 is basically a top 2 Z and Pasha and after that the lack of talent is more than obvious, asking guys like Andersson, Tatar and Nyquist to carry the load right now would be too much but why not let these 3 grow together on the third line? It worked wonders last year and the bottom 6 not only is lacking identity they are lacking speed! Which brings me to another point, how can Babcock insist on playing puck-possession when the defense doesn't have the perfect human or Rafalski to provide the breakout pass? is it stubborness, mandate from above ? The good thing is, Kenny and Babcock are paid well and both are smart people so hopefully they are going to figure things out, if the on ice play doesn't improve start a more aggressive rebuilt and sell some veterans for picks or complementary guys like Orr, McLaren or Scott. I mean, losing against the Rangers shouldn't be a big problem but against a Rangers team without their stars is. Watched the replay and while Dekeyser is to blame for the losing goal too he shouldn't even have been outthere. btw...love Pashas comment wish the rest of the team would follow suit. -

Glad, I have decided to spent my time on going out partying with my GF instead of watching the DetroitRedWings losing against a Rangers team without Nash, Lundqvist and Hagelin. -

Win this game for the perfect human, with so much players out of the lineup the DetroitRedWings should be able to take advantage of the situation. -
So true I mean, the Sedins spent millions of $ helping out with building a hospital for kids in Vancouver, to me this just shows how hockey players, coaches are just the most down to earth and classy guys all around.
-
The concerns are not based on one bad game, they've basically started one year after the DeteoitRedWings had their last cup run.Should an original 6 franchise be left behind the likes of St. Louis, LA or Pittsburgh I don't think so. Myself and others just fail to see, why it is so hard for this team to play a style better suited for the current skillset Like others mentioned have one - crash and bang line preferably the fourth one, a youth loaded third line and keep all the skill on the two top lines.
-
I think Holmer retirement has been one of the most underestimated for a long time, he brought something to the table which is really hard to replace. The guy gave his back for this club, doing a tough job in the toughest areas, obviously losing the perfect human did hurt more but losing Holmer was another tough loss. We should be glad to at least have another few more years of Z and Pasha once they are gone or heavily over the hill, the future will be shallow
-
The lack of offense to me is probably the biggest problem right now but can't be answered one sentence: 1. the often talked about identity crisis - personally I really couldn't describe the identity of this team if a non DetroitRedWings fan would ask me 2. playstyle (coupled with 1!) - why is it so hard for Babcocks and/or Kenny to accept that this team is not skilled enough to play puck posession style? I know I know, they can't play a grind it out or dump and chase style either because this team doesn't have the size for that (Kenny fix that!) but at least they could play a more defensive minded type of system. Z and Pasha are one of the best 200 ft game overall players in the game, why not take advantage of that? 3. youth = in and out all the time, I really thought making the playoffs thanks to a great YOUNG third line would have changed the mindset of the front-office sadly it did not. That's also the erason why I wanted them to miss the playoffs, because in doing so the top guys = Mr. I - best owner in all of sports by far - would have given Kenny more than just an advise on how to turn this thing around, or else...I mean honestly, a third line of Nyquist, Tatar and Andersson can't be worse than what this team is having right now they just can't. Yeah, young guys are going to make mistakes but at least they have enough time to learn from it and play their hearts out every shift. 4. Banking on the false players in the off-season. Back when Kenny signed Alfie to that ridiculous 5,5 m contract I wasn't thrilled. Does such a veteran loaded team really need another veteran in terms of leadership? I don't think so, don't get me wrong Alfie was an outstanding player and maybe an even better person but the timing to sign him was just odd, as seen so far he is nowhere close to what he once has been. I had to deal with criticism for wanting a player like Clarkson instead of Weiss well so far Weiss has turned out great hasn't he? I know it is hard to adjust to Babcocks systems but maybe just maybe (!) Weiss isn't the right fit for this team? Which then begs the question why did Kenny sign him? --->Rift between Babcock and Kenny? 5. Drafting, if you are drafting that late - like the DetroitRedWings - for over a decade it is really hard to find some gems, Tatar, Pulkinen, Nyquist, Andersson...are all nice but let's be honest here none of them is going to be the next star in this league. That's why I wanted this team to start the youth movement after 2010 (at that point everyone knew the retirement of the perfect human) could come very soon...The way to rebuild/tool under the current NHL regime sadly is to suck and get rewarded for it. 6. Coupled with #5 other teams have closed the gap in terms of drafting. The DetroitRedWings had the privilege of finding european gems, when others didn't have scouts there but nowadays almost every team has a ton of scouts, so another advantage gone. Which begs the question why not go for the sure fire picks instead of mostly high risk / high reward? Expecting Z and Pasha to carry this team over and over and over again is just asking for trouble, I mean give Weiss 10 - 15 more games if he doesn't work out at that point try to trade him and bring in a powerforward: I also would like to see a guy like Jake Gardiner here, he could try to become the next PP QB so Kronwall could be the shutdown force once again (which is a way better role for him), that way the defense could once again be helpful to our offense. tl,dr Kenny has his work cut out for him and the Babcock needs to change the playstyle.
-
Which is absolutely idiotic. Teams especially national teams should have the option to choose their own jersey manufacturer meaning Team Sweden has one from Sweden, USA from the US and Canada from Canada. The IOC and IIHF are just a bunch of know it all greedy wannabees - much like the NHL under Buttman. Designwise things in hockey went downhill after Reebook and Nike started buy Baur and CCM, glad they didn't buy Graf.
-
I just find it hard to understand, how Kenny can sign a guy knowing that he might not fit the system? The front office better hope that he puts it together otherwise even tougher times are ahead for the DetroitRedWings.
-
Disappointed Sweden always had one if not the best jersey but this one is meh, seriously Nike should just stop making them they are all bad. Also why do non american teams support an american company? Does not make sense to me.
-
Same here but one thing is more than obious this team is not talented nor deep enough to play a puck possession style. Till the DetroitRedWings are adding size, grit and toughness in order to play dump and chase I think a tight defense first system might be the way to go. Alfie, Mule and Weiss are no shows so far so why make the best of it and have a more complete defensive style of game?

Sabres' Scott offered in-person hearing.
frankgrimes replied to cusimano_brothers's topic in General
Do people honestly believe Scott is afraid of having to backup his actions? Scott is one of the toughest enforcers in the NHL there are only a handful, who can go toe toe with him, Orr will fight him for sure but it could end badly for Orr if you don't get enough space between yourself and Scott chances are, he is going to knock people out like he did with Thornton. I am also sure he didn't intent to hurt ERicsson like that, he is so big and his ellbow didn't come up but Ericsson had his head down and therefore the unfortunately hit happened, all the best for Ericsson. -
Yes, that would be a great hird line. Weiss needs to figure stuff out it's really as simple as that, he has had the pre-season and now 11 games into the season in order to learn the way Babcock wants him to play. I am hardly seeing he needs to understand everything but at least show signs of improvement right now he isgetting worse than better. I am perfectly fine with a team fighting for a playoff spot but whats the point of having veterans taking away spots from young, promising players? Kenny has forgotten which players helped to keep the streak alive and give them some deserved spots. The fourth line like I said needs to be revamped too best case would be having two over the top heavies and a third guy like Prust on such a line, that's three players who will generate energy and drop the gloves against everybody if needed, scoring can't replace the intangibles such a line would bring. Like many others I want our young guys learning from Z and Pasha before they are gone or way past heir prime.
-
Hardly in the same way, an energy line can provide things scoring depth doesn't. I am really starting to wonder about the identity of this team? - they aren't a powerhouse - they aren't anything close to a blue collar team - they aren't young - they aren't tough - they aren't playing a run and gun style - they aren't playing a defense first kind of system so it is really hard figuring out, what the real identity of this team is? Ryan has shown last night how a good UFA signing looks like not an over the hill Alfie or a guy who was injured for almost a full season..while having guys that should be playing in the miniors. but trading at this point of the season is hard, because everyone will know the team is desperate and once that happens Kenny is dealing from a position of weakness but this is his team, so he is also responsible for returning them to be the class of the NHL again. I think this will be another season with some great and some miserable games = fighting for the playoffs.
