Steve Yzerman wants Game Misconduct penalties for fighting
frankgrimes replied to thegerkin's topic in General
It's really easy despite what the soccer mums dads of the world think, fighting is here to stay. It has been part of hockey for a long time and always willwill be. Using horrible accidents or suicides as proof that fighting needs to be gone is just classless.thanks for posting that one would think the game is already dumbed down enough, guess some people are only happy f hockey turns into soccer on ice... also don't give me that players that players safety be if the league would care about the players, there is no way they would reduce goalie pads... -

Yes that is how I see things. Hip checks are a great thing - like pointed out by F Michael - if they are done right. Yzerman is asking for something that could be the first step and a stupid step! Maybe just maybe if these guys would also be appreciated by the stupid media and some of the anti-fighting crowd their lifes would be easier? These guys are having the toughest job in the NHL and other than some fans, teammates and coaches they are only reading/hearing how useless they are and that they don't belong to the NHL how about that crap/bs? What happened to Rypien and Belak is horrible but at the end It's not about me or anyone else being entertained, it's about players feeling safe with these guys on the ice, it's about on ice policy and clean up your game or someone is going to come to you. You think a guy like Lucic is trying to run Miller again with John Scott on the Sabres roster? I highly doubt it. If Lucic runs Howard tonight he has - and will answer - to Tootoo big deal Tootoo has no chance against him, would we have a guy like say Colton Orr he wouldn't even be thinking about that possibility. Personally couldn't care less what other leagues are doing, this is hockey a different sport the NFL could fold and I wouldn't care so let them do whatever. -
This going to get ugly and not in a good way.. I love original 6 battles but I think Boston is on another level

As far as I am concerned the anti-fighting crowd and Bettman can go watch soccer, baseball or basketball. Players are the ones who should know better than everyone else and they've already voted FOR fighting so it's here to say and I am very glad it is. Also, one has to keep in mind how the DetroitRedWings were a much bigger deal a few years ago when we've had guys like Downey, McCarty and Koccur. Yes, the DetroitRedWings were more skilled too but those guys are also great locker-room guys and people other players are feeling better with. If everything is in the name of player safety and enforcers are providing that everything should be fine. This stupid league led by an undersized new york based *******, who has no clue about the game is more and more going the way of becoming soccer on ice and yet there are people who are ok with that. The nonsense will only stop once this game has been destroyed once and for all. I'd rather see no NHL, than an even more dumbed down product (aren't failed franchises, no hipchecks and less hitting enough of a dumbed down)? For the 8 ,3 million a year waste of human being not it seems...when will the owners wake up and kick this guy out of the league. I am glad, there are teams like the Leafs who are tough, skilled and not getting pushed around easily. I love our rivalry with them but there fourth line should be something other teams should want to recreate too. With guys like Devane, Broll in the minors they can soon ice even a third line from hell...and that's impressive. Also the stupid Blackhawks are a freaking boring team to watch, rather see the Blues or Kings style. -
Baertschi and Zibanejad thrown under the bus publically

Well the guy I would want is Cowen, big beast physical, young and can fight. Also let's not overrate Mantha guy has yet to play a game in the NHL so until that happens he is just a prospect. -
well the only game I am interested in is Stevie versus the Bruins

Funny smashing someone's face.into the Plexiglasses gets you a 2.500 fine but shoving a buckle is 10.000 just stupid. funny how the Disneyclub backed down after Roy sent out Bordelaeu and McLeod

I think he should ask Feaster about Baertschi it's clear the new front office hates him. -

Not true at all, it was a bounding moment for the whole team. Downeys job was to take care off business after the incident and he did a damn got job, that is wy enforcers are needed. Rats should have to answer for their crap ON THE ice if suspensions are coming on top of that fine. -

Byers is my man I love his reference to soccer mums and dads. The guy is one of the toughest to ever lace them up so he should know and Byers *like most players* is fully aware of the danger. Stevo Y can not tellme that he was not happy, when guys like McCarty, Koccur or Downey had his back, otherwise the Lidstrom incident against the Avalanche would have happened a lot more often with way worse outcomes. If the soccermums and dads of the world are deciding against hockey, because it is dangerious an violent so be it, these are also the type of parents who will scream bloody murder after a foul in soccer. Stuff like this sadly happens but banning the on ice policy and watering down the game even more is just pure nuts. It is too funnz that a guy lke Rutherford has also joined the discussion, maybe he just wants a rat like Ruutu being free to do his stuff. I am also not surprised that Shero is in favor of banning fighting, because the Penguins would never sign an enforcer right...oh the irony The players have already spoken they feel safer with an enforcer in the lineup, the enforcers are well aware of the danger so I really don>t think this debate will amount to anything, thankfully. -

Why should I? Fighting is part of hockey, just like hitting, goaltending, offense and defense it is part of the tradition of the game, it always was and always will be. I am not saying the anti fighting crowd should change their opinion, but if it's that big of a deal for people maybe hockey isn't the right sport for them. I mean, I wouldn't watch soccer and complain about the lack of toughness or fighting there, because - unlike hockey - it's not part of the game there. The thing is: Players want fighting in the game, they love guys like Parros, Orr, Scott...look at how much bigger Montreal played yesterday because of the presence of Parros. MacTavish has been quoted saying what guys like MacIntyre can do for the whole locker room. Think Cooke, Torres and Kaleta would still do their crap if the enforcers actually were allowed to go after them ? I don't. -

Sure Stevo Y has had the more succesful carreer no doubt, but I mean in terms of experience Cherry has seen it all. -

It wouldn't? Guys like Kaleta (nice to meet him tonight without an enforcer...), Cooke, Torres and other over the line rats would have a field day with younger and star players because they won't have to answer to qualityguys like Orr, McGrattan, MacIntyre, McLaren, Engelland or Thornton or Scott. Like I said if people hate fighting that much, there are other sports to watch..Yes hitting is part of the game and that's why this stupid front-office and the department for players safety has been to remove it from the game, with ridiculous rules. -
Ference as captain was a great choice, but 6 A's it's almost embarrassing if you are not getting one

Cherry has seen and probably played more hockey than 90 % of this planet he knows what he is talking about and I am glad there are people like him, who don't tolerate the watering down of this great game. -
It was a freaking accident, I am wishing Parros all the best and a speedy recovery. These guys are holding on each other to not lose their balance and reduce the impact if the opponent is falling down.
-
I hope he tears up the AHL and will be back in no time.

Hockey is a dangerous, violent and sometimes hard to watch - i.e. Parros accident - but if people can't deal with that go watch soccer, baseball or basketball. Nobody is forcing these guys to fight they both are agreeing and they know exactly the risks and benefits of it. The Captain will always be THE captain but in this case I have to respectfully disagree with him. I'd stop watching the NHL if they ever ban fighting and destroy the game even more than it already is. Maybe he has forgotten how players like McCarty, Downey and Koccur prevented other guys from taking runs at him and step over the line... -
Ouch that sucks, love the reaction from Orr he immediately called for the doctors. Hopefully big Parros is going to recover fast all the best to him.

Kessel just turned 26 meaning his best years are ahead of him, he is entering his prime. He had all the leverage here, 8x8 is the going rate for players of his caliber he hasn't won as much as Perry but he certainly i s in that ballpark, so I really think Newport used guys like Perry as comparables. If the guy was really out for the money and money only, he would have signed with a non hockeymarket enjoying his nearly taxfee millions of $.

This is not a shot at the Senators, I would react the same if Holland called out a prospect via the media, I just don't like that stuff. Yes, they are pros but these guys are also young, so having patience and thinking about the stuff one is saying to the media shouldn't be to much to ask. Murray could have told the media "we had a one on one conversation and I told him how we came to this decision, thats all I am going to tell you" --> same effect but a much friendlier tone and you don't throw your player under the bus. As for Baertschi I like the kid, he left his home in order to succeed at such a young age and is still learning and improving, give the guy some damn time and cut him some slack, he doesn't have the luxury of having his family friends, around or at least close his homecountry is over 12 hours away. If I were him, the first thing I'd would be making sure to play the best I can and asking for a trade at the first opportunity. Man Parros handled Orr pretty well, the Stache is just a big big SOB.

I don't know what it is with Ottawa but I am starting to think they are somewhat special. Maybe the better players are getting sick of Melynk being cheap at some time. Murray could have told Zibanejad eveything behind close doors but why do it publically? Looks like he has learned nothing from the Heatley, Alfredson saga. As for Baertschi his job is to impress the coach, GM and owner at least that would be my guess. -
What's pissing me off is the fact, that him and Tatar have done everything this organization asked them to do and even more. They've stepped up in the AHL, helped an injury poised DetroitRedWings roster to reach the playoffs and finally won a memorial cup, meanwhile the roster is filled with over the hill veterans, who clearly do not have a place in the longterm plans. I am really starting to think, it would have been better if the DetroitRedWings missed the playoffs entirely or at least getting absolutely destroyed by the Ducks or Blackhawks? This late run really has given Kenny a false - and dangerous - sense of how this team does stack up against the elite powerhouses, hence the bringing in/back actions of some veterans. I also wouldn't blame Nyquist or Tatar for being pissed about the whole situation. sent from a mobile device autocorrections errors are possible!

Nah they've played too well last season, so now the veterans deserve a chance to rebound.... I mean seriously, these two have done everything and more and yet they can't get a spot on this team? I am really starting to question some offseason moves .
