    What Are You Playing?

From what I've read (gamespot & metacritic) fans aren't happy and it's basically like NHL 14 are re-released versions with some minor updates and new bugs.

    USA Olympic '14 Jerseys

So far the worst of them all, horrible design. Fake laces and blurry stars on the shoulders really? The USA K-Swiss logo is absolutely disgusting having your country associated with a trademark should be a no-go. Even though I am not from the US I really hope this is just your third jersey and the real one will be revealed later.

One player to put us over the top

Lucic, Clarkson those are the type of players every team needs but I honestly think defense is more needed than offense. The DetroitRedWings lack that clutch number 1 defenseman we've become so used to for almost two decades, the only one who might be available soon is Alex Pietrangelo he fixes a lot of needs and Babcock himself has stated, that Alex reminds him of the perfect human in terms of hockey IQ. If not him, then Shattenkirk. Vanek would be another nice option but the DetroitRedWings don't have the assets required to get him, the Sabres are going to ask for the moon and giving up that much for a rental is a gamble, I wouldn't want to take.

It's time - to predict 2014 Team Canada

At first Ithought wow someone has some great photoshop skills but since TSN confirmed this just wow. I don't know but how does this help the players? They might see the bigger angles but other than that? Playing hockey office is not the same as on ice hence why rollerhockey is useless.

    NHL 14

Konami has done a really good job of providing a simulation feeling for games. Granted I am by far not a soccer fan but PES has been a great franchise for the most part (still playing the 06 version). Hockey doesn't need all these crazy licences espeically not on the PC, since patches can be easily installed and modified. You are right about developers who care about making a great game (Grinding Game Gears with Path of EXile) or those who want to rip you off with every game I am looking at Blizzard. I really hate the NHL for renewing the licence with EA highly doubt I am going to buy another version even for the Ps 4.

    Change to goalie pads.

It's the whole picture everything is getting over analyst, more and more questionable decisions hurting the DetroitRedWings and other original 6 teams, less physical play and fights every year. I mean do people honestly believe, this whole forced offense thing is going to stop if goalie-pad shrinking doesn't work out? This is the NHL a league run by non hockeyguys so this will only be start.

    NHL 14

The last call of duty I've played was version 4 since then I'll never tough this crappy game again, I hate the company behind it I loathe Kotdork. It's really too bad other studios aren't producing NHL games how about Konami or 2k sports. Sadfully there are still enough people outthere, to buy that crap every year.

    Change to goalie pads.

I haven't said tuned out and for sure they have to be engaged the whole time. The difference is, goalies aren't on the bench they aren't getting any advice during the game from their coaches. This is the NHL bar none the best league in the world so yes everything the players are doing outthere is going to tough and extremely demanding. It's just hard understanding why payers are allowed to use the best material outthere and goaltenders aren't, these huge goalpads also have some disadvantages (heavier, less comfortable) so it's already a trade off but yet the NHL wants them shrinked... James Reimer from the MapleLeafs gave an interview about that and even he said, that being an Enforcer is the toughest role so I take the word from an actual NHL player. Think about it, why can guys like Marchand go outthere and start stuff, it's because Lucic, McQuaid, Chara and Thornton are having his back is Marchands job easy? For sure not but what Thornton does is like you said extremely physically and mentally grueling. If I were a GM the first thing I would do, is tell every player they are as important as the stars including Enforcers and goaltenders. What bothers me the most is simple: if you start tweaking things you are trying to force something what if it doesn't work? The NHL is always thinking short and never longterm! For me it does had way more fun watching this league pre 2005...

    Change to goalie pads.

Goalies have to be mentally focused for the whole game, they need to get used to their equipment even more than the players do. Yes the pads are increasing but so are slapshots, wristers and others equipment stuff. Just compare the new pro sticks to the ones used a few years ago, it's like day and night these these things are hightech-wonders nowadays couple that with players getting stronger, bigger and faster goalies for sure need more protection otherwise the NHL is risking their health. Being an enforcer is easily the toughest job in the NHL, even if you win your fight you are looking at a few punches to your head every single game and that adds up. These guys deserve more love by the media, their teammates love them andmost coaches do so also. I think goalies are in a similar situation, as a defender you can often count on a guy like the perfect human to cover your mistake, goaltenders have no one and now their job is getting even harder, that's just stupid can't believe the PA is ok with it. More scoring doesn't lead to more excitment, I'd prefer games were goals mean something instead of ridiuclous games ending 6:4.

    Change to goalie pads.

The NHL hates goalies just excellent making the second toughest job on the team - goons having the toughest - even more complicated. Want to bring back excitment to the NHL? Allow hitting, hip checks and other stuff again instead of trying to force more offense.

Wings sign Alfredsson to 1-year, $3.5m deal (+$2m bonuses)

Obviously the perfect human will be even more missed this season (82 compared to 47 games)but I also miss former great role players such as Holmer, Downey, McCarty you know the non flashy guys who's presence helped on and off the ice.

Preds Managemant Charging Hawks Fans Double

Just goes to prove once again - if that wasn't even needed - how lucky we as DetroitRedWings fans can be, for having the best owner in all of sports. Wirtz and MLSE are just a big joke, they aren't in because they love the game they want to squeeze out as much money as possible. The Hawks are milking the bandwagon-thing till no end it seems, disgrace.

New enemies, whom do you fear the most?

Somehow I think confidence is a good thing but overconfidence has a chance to backfire. Personally I fear a lot of the new enemies but I am not expecting the DetroitRedWings to compete for the top-spot either. Going in with a more reasonable expectation can only lead to enjoyment, if they do better than expected fine, if not well not a big deal. To be honest I think Chicago is a very boring team to watch, I love the energy Backes is playing with and appreciate a hardhitting back and forth game.

Capitals sign Grabovski (1 year deal)

Seems to be a show your worth type of contract, if he does well Grabos next one is going to better if not, well KHL bound. Obviously I thought Grabo as a former Russian would have been KHL bound good for him to get another shot with a NHL club. The caps once again are a high powered offensive team with questionable defense, they either miss the playoffs or are looking at another first round exit.

Datsyuk wearing "C" during the Olympics?

I think it will be one of Malkin, Ovechkin or Kovalchuck the russian board loves having KHL players wearing a letter so this will obviously play a role in it. Datsyuk might be a log for an A but the C will go to one of the former mentioned players.

New enemies, whom do you fear the most?

To me it is really simple: All NON RedWings teams which are all 29 others are enemies, with some these enemies the team shares some nice gold ole rivalries. Reimer/Bernier or Bernier/Reimer is not exactly a weak goaltending duo far from it, it may not be elite and Howard is obviously better than the two but the Leafs aren't a team one should take likely. I hate the fact, that people are reducing players to only scoresheet numbers, there is so much more when it comes down to hockeyplayers, Bolland is a two time Stanley Cup champion a proven winner, Clarkson the total package he can slot in on a second line or carry a 3 line, drop the gloves, hit and provide points also. Some fans may not like it but playing a physical game and even beyond the edge is part of hockey, so saying Leafs haven't played hockey is wrong. Vokun kept the highly favored Penguins in this series and provided them with the win, otherwise no doubt the Isles would have advanced. I think with their young core and Tavares becoming one of the premier players in this league their crappy days may soon be behind them, which makes me happy the Islesfans deserve better.

Do Maple Leaf fans deserve better?

Someone should tell him the current captain of the Maple Leafs hockeyclub not O Dea *g*

    NHL 14

I used to be excited about NHL X but that time is long gone, so here is what I expect: - slightly improved textures if even that - former gone features now being introduced as new and super-gameplay relevant - better music pool of artists - incomplete rosters so basically a rushed version of NHL 13 with some updates. Why can't companies just pass 1 year, release an updated roster and come back with a real improved one in 2 or maybe 3 years? That's just mind boggling.
  19. I don't think people are looking at them and complain only because they are plain, more like the whole concept seems off. I kinda like the shark logo sure he could look more vicious but jersexy it self looks out of place there aren't any standout details (you don't need a overloaded jersey to accomplish that). I think giving them a grisp white look combined with the sharks green and some fine details here and there would have been the way to go. Yeah I guess if merchandise is the reason behind all this, they should either modify it lightly (such as the Leafs are doing it), or just leave them alone and only change the numbers of the players. Who in his right mind is going to buy a new jersey every year even if we exclude the fact that they are looking worse in most cases.

New enemies, whom do you fear the most?

The Senators for sure are going to play with a chip on their shoulder against the DetroitRedWings. I see both teams on equal footing, to me the east is gated in 3 sections top tier, second hier and the top 5 pick teams such as Buffalo, Florida. The second tier teams are those, that will fight out the last remaining spots and as others have mentioned, it will be a very unpredictable pool. I fully expect the Rangers to have a bounce back season under Vigenault, Sather knows if they want Lundquist to stay NYR has to be better.
  21. Well if you take off something from a Jersey it will look different. The point is, there isn't anything on those Sharks jerseys making them stand out from only ones used for practise. Somehow this jersey thing has gotten out of hand the Stars had a perfect one some years and yet they have decided to make it worse every year. If it'snot broken don't fix it, why is that so hard to understand for some nhl teams? The Wings jersey is fine, the colors are grisp and sharp, it's clean and not overloaded.
  22. frankgrimes

Wings sign Nyquist to 2-year, $1.9m deal ($950k/yr cap hit)

Fantastic contract he really left some money on the table, hope the Wings reward him with playing time and further development. Way to go Gustav
  23. They really look like practise jersey, very bland and kina meh. I thought the old ones were a lot better

New enemies, whom do you fear the most?

Well the point of this thread was to discuss new enemies and why people fear them. The Grand Rapids are the Wings farmteam.

    Fox Sports 1 Debuts today

At least in terms of their female hockeywriters they are pretty much set, this Stewart-Binks chick is for sure a hotty and very knowledgeable. Loved listening to her on the puckpodcast this week.
