It's the f****** asking price (top 4 defenseman around the same age, or top 6 center also around the same age) learn and understand the difference between a asking price and offer, thanks. RNH alone won't get them Trouba, neither would Nurse whom I'm a huge fan of because he plays the game the way it's supposed to be played. Trading Nurse would be a mistake no doubt but I doubt someone like Klefbom will return Trouba and they are for sure not trading Larsson after giving up Hall for him. The Larsson for Hall trade set the benchmark and Trouba is every bit as good as Larsson and also younger. Jets don't have to trade him because technically he is still an RFA, so Cheveldayoff can wait it out for the best offer and then take the best deal. TSN also talked about that and the name Morgan Rielly came up sure the guy has a lot of potential and promise but I'd rather have Trouba who has even more upside and should be paid accordingly.

Nurse + RNH = much better and helps them now Kucherov one for one swap because of KHL risk Larkin may be a no but Holland has to at least consider it. That offer is a pure quantity for quality trade a lot of teams will easily top that.

According to some here that's not the plan in the near future and even Holland himself said so. I don't like the outlook but under those circumstances yeah Trouba has to be a top top priority how often does a young (potential) number 1 defenseman become available? Let's take Ekblad as the benchmark here he signed a 8 year, 7,5 AAV contract Trouba is older and not as good as him so something around 6,5 for 8 years would be a steal for the guy. Cheveldayoff will regret letting this guy go. As good as Larkin and I think he has the same leadership-aura around him as captain serious does (not saying he will be as elite) but Holland has to at least consider it given the return would be a much needed top 4 RHD who is also young.

What people don't understand with this quantity for quality proposals is that the Jets don't need any more Wingers, be it veterans or young ones their top 6 is pretty much set, Cheveldayoff will want a center with potential, of course that's Larkin. I have high hopes for Mantha but he doesn't help them at all, they are already big up front and they have Laine coming in. Nyquist, Tatar does nothing to help them out. A goaltender? really they are transistioning to Helleybuck and away from Pavelec and people think they'll take on the contract of another veteran? When I'm looking at proposals I'm looking at both sides yes it WOULD be very nice to get him for a package of Nyquist/Tatar, Marchenko + first but that's not what the Jets need so why would Cheveldayoff trade him for that package or why do some superfans think others wouldn't top that easily? If Edmonton offers Nurse + RNH how do you top that?! If Tampa offers Kucherov ? wheter people here like it or not but the price is going to be high and the only chance to match that is to offer Larkin I would be thrilled if Mrazek + a 1 st would be enough but that doesn't fix their center or defense problem if they trade him. Doesn't help the jets at all only the first might be of interest but man I would lottery shield that pick.

that's the problem trading him means searching for a potential number 1 center. The jets are loaded at the forward position and they have Laine ready to take a spot I guess.sad part is other than Larkin I don't think the jets are interested in anyone.

I wouldn't pay Larkin, a first (at least not if he isn't lottery save ) and roster player depends on which one. But people are dreaming if they believe the asking price won't be high he is one of the best young defenders in the game and will only get better. A guy like Chychrun would have been a handy asset now wouldn't it...

Kenny better be on line one and make that happen bring him home. DannyD - Trouba as the top pair would be a nice draft whatever the jets want you pay it

It's so funny people are naming great young defenseman but then won't give up the asking price. And the ducks would be stupid to move one if not their best defender. Birth place for sure is important having guys from Michigan helps to form a bond quicker and fans can better identify themselves with the team. I mean how cool would it be to have Larkin or Danny D. to one day captain this team? That's special and something sports in general need to find again more local patriotism

You know there is an edit option right? No need to reply to your own post. Keep dreaming about Trouba, Fowler as long as the most gun shy GM in recent years is here there won't be any big trades.

Dan Cleary Gets Training Camp Tryout

Well the presser was almost an hour long and sometimes a lecture in hockey-history while stumbling over his words so not that easy to follow. The problem is, whatever his definition of rebuild, retool or whatever he wants to do is simple: doing the same thing over and over again and hoping that some players may turn out way better than expected while others are getting more guaranteed top players, who - to quote Holland - are able to put a franchise on their backs is a gamble. All he has to do is look around the league and see the excitment Edmonton, Buffalo, Toronto and Florida and the Isles have with players like McJesus, Eichel, Matthews, Ekblad (whose a Michigan boy) and of course Tavares then you have Winnipeg with Scheifele and Laine. Hoping to find players of that caliber in the later rounds is like searching for a needle in a haycock. Rebuild to me means handing over the keys to the young guns, let them learn from their mistakes and while doing so get better draft-picks in order to "speed up" the rebuild and get that player that can put a team on his back for many years to come. Of course it's unlikely to find another McJesus (that guy is flying over the ice and has magic hands) but according to Button there will be some very solid (potential) number 1 centers and defenders in the upcoming draft. Anyhow if the GR players think Clearly can help them with his work ethic and experience it would be stupid not to sign him, if a GR player can't take his spot away the guy would never amount to anything in the AHL so there is no harm in having a veteran (stanley cup winner), showing young kids how it's done. I'm also sure Clearly will work in some function for the Wings when the time is right I could see him as a strength or conditioning coach.

Dan Cleary Gets Training Camp Tryout

Simple put cleaning house. Since this is the Dan Cleary PTO thread I'm not going to reply to that god damn rebuild discussion I will only say this to this f****** discussion: straight out of the mouth from Ken Holland at 13:30 Back to the topic Dan Cleary completing a successful tryout or not doesn't change a f****** damn thing at best it adds some much needed veteran presence to the junior Wings in GR.

Dan Cleary Gets Training Camp Tryout

No not at all this my way of saying to finally get something instead of losing another player for nothing (be it waivers or letting him walk come summer). Still can't believe Holland is going into the season without trading for a defenseman but whatever that's not part of the conversation. A second round pick might be pushing it but remember Roman freaking Polak went to the Sharks for 2 nd rounders. Of course if Vanek gets around 10 - 15 goals there won't be much interest but even a 3 rd pick is better than nothing.
  16. frankgrimes

Dan Cleary Gets Training Camp Tryout

All I'm hoping for Vanek is this: Play at least solid hockey, so the Wings can get a second round draft pick for him come trade deadline. I don't expect him to score a lot of goals or to have any influence at all, screen the goalie and get some assists is enough for me. People, who believe he will score 20 + goals are in for a rude awakening. Wheter people like it or not, if Mantha, AA can't take away a spot from Helm they'll never amount to anything but I think Mantha has all the potential in the world, he just needs to use his massive frame to his advantage.

Dan Cleary Gets Training Camp Tryout

It's a f****** PTO, if he succeeds he will get a job on re griffins and given the amount of remaining talent there chances are his veteran experience will be very welcome. Maybe a call up here and there if the Injury bug comes back. Like it not Cleary making the GR roster or not is going to be the least of the Wings problems this year.

2016 World Cup of Hockey thread

Well it's just a glorified exhibition game but I'm not surprised. Price is just the best goalie in the world, after 5 - 6 regular season games the guy will be as good as ever, him and Weber will be the reason why the Habs are going to return to the playoffs this year. For sure Canada is going to win, best player in the world, wheter people like him or not in Crosby, best defense in the world, best goalie and the best coach. The only question left will be how serious are they going to take the tournament once training camp starts. I mean, it would help the new players on each team tremendously if their leaders are there because you can't replace the voice of a guy like Babcock or the influence of captain serious...young players are respecting them much more than assitant coaches or alternate captains. And yet team USA loses against a gimmick team

just wait till he scores his first goal, tsn will have it covered with at least 4 articles.I know people are disappointed for Larkin..But this is great for him he doesn't get hurt and might play angry. I mean everyone knew the center position would be If McJesus - Eichel - Matthews.

Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread

What I will say is this: let's wait and see. I think Larkin for sure has the talent, skill and work ethic to become a very solid top 6 center, will he become a number 1 center? Way too early to tell and I'm not going to have such ridiculous expectations for him. And yes the streak is meaningless if it gets into the way of building towards a Stanley Cup. Great Boston's streak is longer fine, I'm sure UFAs are impressed by such streaks as seen with Stamkos, Lucic and Okposo. Even if Larkin does become a number 1 center, who is going to be the number 1 defenseman, who is going to be the highend sniper and who's going to be the second line center? Nielsen in 3 years at 35 years? yeah sure. LIke I've mentioned if people are happy with maybe making the playoffs and first round exits fine, more power to you my expectations for the Wings are building towards the cup and right now Ken Holland is NOT doing that. I'm also not going into semantics he himself stated that he's not rebuilding because he still believes this team has a chance..well if so trade for a defenseman and not talk about "hockey trades and being more aggressive" and then doing nothing other than bring in more patchwork players. I don#t care if people think it's disrespectful or whatever because sub par hockey with patchwork fixes each and every year is disrespectful to a program of excellence and to a team that was once known as the class of the NHL. Look at the history of all the former cup winners: Each one had at least 2 top 5 picks: Chicago: Toews, Kane Pittsburgh: MAF, Crosby, Malkin LA: Kopitar, Doughty Boston: they did it without a top 5 pick...but had a performance for the ages from Timmy Thomas, an elite center Bergeron and Chara clearing everyone and everything.

Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread

I would be because it's the right thing to do instead of hanging on to a meaningless streak. Sharks will need a rebuild soon too but they still have their defense fixed with Burns and Vlasic. When you have a team that doesn't have a number 1 center, number 1 defenseman and UFAs aren't exactly knocking on the door there are 2 options: trade or draft them. Toronto learned this the hard way...Vancouver is going to learn it the hard way too soon. So I'd rather see young guys, who need 1 or 2 years at the worst in the minors develop, than seeing guys like Mantha sent down so some patchwork players can play...and I'd rather see mistakes from learning by doing instead of veterans who could be used for more draft picks taking spots away. To me it seems like the Wings want to learn it the hard way and whoever follows Holland will be stuck with a leafs like sitatution before they decided to rebuild. If people believe being a team without a clear vision that drafts around 15 plus and either misses the playoffs or is out in the first round is exciting or something desirable more power to them..to me the red wings way should be building towards cup or bust.

Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread

exactly he would use veterans as assets to get more picks, not sign players to 6 year contracts who are used to push contenders over the top.If Vanek has a good season he should be traded but I'm sure Holland will keep him because of the meaning less streak and then let him walk for nothing or worse extend him.
  25. frankgrimes

Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread

all the arguing over semantics is useless. Holland stated he isn't interested in a rebuild so it's not a rebuild. It's trying to fix holes with patchworks and hope that some young players will turn out better than expected...instead of doing what needs to happen. If people can get excited for this, fine I guess examples like Leafs under Burke, Vancouver aren't enough. Only thing that's exciting is watching Larkin and Mantha develop some chemistry other than that ...it will be a long, boring and tough season.
