The NHL can go off a cliff, players - including superstars - already stated they are going to participate. Like Ovechkin said what are they going to do, if he is going? Yeah cry a river and become even more stupid then they already are, big deal. You can not compare the MLB and NHL worldwide, there is only one continent where Baseball is big and I mean really big = USA, so it just isn't a good olympic sport. Hockey on the other side has many stars from a lot of hockeycrazy countries (Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, USA, Russia, Finland) I for one will be very happy to finally see some stacked teams again, since the NHL has become a joke and it is almost impossible to ice stacked teams.
-
Well there is a certain Swedish guy who can make 47 saves, following that up with 45 ..and and 40 you get the idea? Not to piss on Howard but top goalies are at the top of their game, when the team is needing it the most.
-
It also has an impact on the TOR/DRW game. Non hockeyfans will look at this game and be like "oh well there are 6 outdoor games and one of those is in a big stadium" they won't know that these teams are original 6 franchises with huge fanbases playing a "real" Winter Classic so they are also watering down "our" Winter Classic which is pissing me off beyond believe. http://www.weatherwest.com/archives/796 so nice having a "Rollerblades Classic" scheduled ey NHL?

I like that pairing extremely but I am still angry at not giving Smith some time with an alltime top 3 defenseman last season. It would have helped his development soo much just too bad it didn't happen. Anyway, I just don't understand why Holland didn't trade White and Filps both won't be cap next season, so why not get a first and at least a 3 rd for this duo?!

The Race for Eight: Blue Jackets, Stars, Wings
frankgrimes replied to bardownginos's topic in General
It is simple really, Wings need to win at least 3 of the next 5 and take the other two to overtime like someone mentioned. Anyway, I wouldn't be pissed if they missed because a chance at the first overall would be great and who cares what tank to win teams are saying about the RedWings? This franchise still has broken records and provided so much great hall of fame player there aren't many others who have been done that. Let these bandwagoners brag about it, once this joke of a league is fixed the Wings will be back s tronger than ever. Imagine if this team gets a top 10 pick and gunning for the cup in two or 3 years again :-) -
Watering down a great produc, not caring about the integrity of the sport and even kill one of the last coll things - the ASG has just become a joke years ago - may be about making money, but it is a bad and a very bad thing. Hopefully this is going to fail miserable and heads will start to roll soon. This league needs to go back to its roots, which is tough hockey and less marketing, PR and other stupid stuff. Turning the Winter Classic into an average event AND adding a summer classic on top of it is just too bad to be true. Some things are and should always be bigger than making money, how about integrity, tradition and novelty of the sport? Also if the league wants to make money, how about allowing great teams to be great again? Yeah I guess thats too easy and obvious for some of the NHL bosses pathetitic league and even worse front-office hate them all.
-
So two original 6 teams are getting one damn game, another original six team is getting two and has been in the classic 3 years ago. • Ducks vs. Kings at Dodger Stadium, Jan. 25 --> Summer Classic • Devils vs. Rangers at Yankee Stadium, Jan. 26 --->Who cares? • Islanders vs. Rangers at Yankee Stadium, Jan 29 • Penguins at Blackhawks, Soldier Field, March 1 no words • Senators at Canucks, BC Place, March 2 --->at least two canadian teams I love hockey, but I really loathe this league, you lost revenue because the people running the show are complete idiots make that up by providing a better product a frist step would be, to fire this little man and his countryclub named BOG.
-
I so hope it is this year, best thing would be something like Dallas versus Carolina, maybe then the owners and other responsible people will come to their senses. One can still hope right?
-
Somehow I wish this would happen, just to show the NHL how damn wrong they are with their parity BS. Lets just hope. the watered down Winter Classic is going to fail and therefoore the experiment will be over after next year.
-
but at a way slower rate, so parity for years to come and a watered down winter classic 2014. Can't believe owners are letting these front-office idiots continue to water down "kill" the game we once loved
-
This is the NHL we are talking about; so every delusional decision is possible Sent from my BlackBerry

Get bent NHL, fire the front-office before they are fully destroying our great-sport. Teams like Senators, Penguins over Original 6 ones like Montrea l *lol* what an embarassment and joke this has become. The Winter Classic should have been something special, not a stupid sideshow. Way to water down a great idea NHL, fire Buttman Heres my great idea: 33 % outdoor 33 % in europe 33 % in NA 0,5 on Mars 0,5 on Jupiter sounds like a great plan doesn't it?

Tambelinni fired, MacTavish new Oiler GM...Scott Howson new Sr VP
frankgrimes replied to evilzyme's topic in General
Watched the whole press conference, boy I've seen arrogant idiots giving pressers but Lowe is just in another league, what a SOB. So great you've won a lot of Stanley Cups (bypasser) but that doesn't mean anything in terms of management qualities and therefore they are 0. Hard to believe, their owner hasn't fired him yet and now he is bringing in a guy who has no experience as a GM at any stage and someone who just got fired. So yes Lowe you may know a lot but not about hockey-management...arrogant bastard slow down -
My rankings are Holland > Shero > Chiarelli > Poile > Stevie Do I think Holland is perfect? No way, but which GM is? Hollands hands are tied, because the league is an absolute joke and embarrassment under the current office stuff and owners are blind enough, to keep these non-hockey-guys employed. I think not trading White and filps at the deadline was a mistake and if Filps walks for nothing in the summer, missed chance in a deep upcoming draft. Holland is damn smart and still the best GM but honestly, I think he should move up in the organization and by that time Stevie should be ready to replace him. btw. nhl.com is still blocked not going to give their site traffic thanks to the lockout.

signed Official: Howard signs 6-year, $31.8m contract extension
frankgrimes replied to matt198913's topic in General
Term sucks Caphit sucks I love his attitude - like mentioned before - and I know, GMs have to overpay for future offers but Howard just isn't a 6 year 31,8 m type of goalie. Thats close to Luongo money in terms of caphit and that guy has won a gold medal, also for a few bucks more you are reaching elite league at this pricetag. -
4/12 GDT : Red Wings 2 at Blackhawks 3 (SO)

4x4,5 = 18 m OR 5x4 = 20 M I have nothing against Howard, I love his attitude but he isn't a 5,3 per year for 6 years goalie. -
I think it is something like 95 (KHL) 5 (NHL), why should he want to play on a rebuilding team, paying high taxes when he could play in front of his loved ones and make a ton of money overthere? Whatever happens I will buy a NON NHL (hopefully I'll find a replica somewhere) from him.
-
Well hating Crosby is nice and ok but in terms of raw talent, work ethic and leadership he deserves a lot of credit and yes, he easily seperated himself from Ovechkin (great goalscorer but thats about it). His competitors are like mentioned, Malkin, Toews and Stamkos.

With the season he is having, there is no reasonable way Filpulla could get that much if so, Holland really lost his mind. -

Lundqvist, Rinne, Miller, Luongo, Price, Ward, Andersson easily > Howard 5 Mill would be a huge huge overpayment in my eyes -
Concerned - we might not make it in to the playoffs
frankgrimes replied to RedWingsRox's topic in General
It is win win situation for the fanbase really: some want the streak to go on - would win in that scenario some want a better big - would win if the Wings miss The most bipolar fanbase in all of hockey can claim whatever they want, I couldn't care less. -
Nice happy for the kid, hopefully he can adjust well to the NA style.

Except for Prust nobody on this team can fight well, you need at least 1 top 10 enforcer if you want some protection for your stars and young-guns.
