This is about Steve Ott, not McCarthy not Howe...also what are you still doing here you've said you are going to bump ship on the Leafs bandwagon yesterday? -

Some people really underestimate Ott, he isn't just a guy who hits and fights he's also been in the league since a long time he knows what it takes to grind through pain and work even harder with "lesser" talent (although he still made it to the NHL so great talent) something young players can learn from. I would have been happy with Chris Neil but Ott is a great option, for me the best signing yesterday. Cheap and a guy who does it all. -
Abby or Danny D. both should be here for a long time and seem to be born leaders Larkin is too young he will be captain one day but no need to put any extra pressure on him

Just listened to the Looch interview holy this guy has shoulders that look massive even without gear, such a great signing envy of the Oilers McJesus and Eichel really changes the game for Buffalo and Edmonton -

Signed Frans Nielson signs 6 year $5.25m AAV contract with Detroit

I'm honestly very surprised by his decline, he is not that old in terms of hockey age maybe he's had a serious injury and just a tough time bouncing back. But man going from an almost 9 mill paycheck to "only" 3.5 is a clear sign. -

3 coaches have given up on this guy, the Wild bought him out for a reason. Didn't want him but of course the Wings sign him at the plus side it's only for 1 year so if it doesn't work out they can just let him walk. so much for becoming heavier and tougher to play against lol -

The thing is simple: If the Wings started a real rebuild after Lidstrom retired, there would have been more top picks and therefore a better chance of getting some star out of it. Would they be ready to content by now? For sure not but the future wouldn't look as bleak Yes, a rebuild is painful but it can also be very exciting just look at Buffalo, Edmonton and soon even Toronto McJesus, Eichel and Matthews jerseys are going to fly of the shelves and people actually WANT to be part of their future (see Okposo and Looch). It was also the same last week, when some people like me questioned how realistic Stamkos would really be and if trading Chychrun for Cholowski would be worth it. This isn't even something personal against Holland the reality is what it is, this team is not seen as the go to place anymore and it's the job of a GM to make that happen. Either via UFA, trade or draft picks. Nielson is not a number 1 center so how does that help the Wings? I hope nobody has the idea of throwing Larkin to the wolves in the upcoming season because he is not ready for such a role. -

Backes 5 years in Boston would have been a lot happier with him guy brings entertainment according to the isles fans Nielson is a 2 way center, good on the PK, undersized and not physical. Nothing against him happy the guy gets paid but at this stage it was the wrong decision. Meanwhile Toronto is waiting and doing nothing which is smart. -

I've heard that a lot but where is a proof of that? Wings are risking to turn into the Leafs or Canucks who for the longest time refused to rebuild. Vancouver still doesn't see the Eriksson signing. If the order is indeed from Mr I than you are right Holland must follow the orders. If they bring in some bought out guys in the hope they'll regain their form this team might as well get used to first round exits for a long time. -

No what's embarrassing is not accepting the cold hard truth which is a real rebuild. I would have been fine with doing nothing today because there isn't anyone who can help this team. More and more players don't want to come here they'd rather sign in Buffalo, Edmonton if this isn't a clear indication I don't know what is.With the prices being paid today maybe someone would have traded for Z or Kronwall -

Nelson is finishing not a starting piece this team is nowhere near contention ...why not stay pat ? Seems like cap space needs to be spent no matter what ? Which is so dumb there's going to be another UFA day, trade deadline and a draft ...yeah Wings didn't get Stamkos in fact he wasn't even interested how about using that fact as a hint that a rebuild is needed instead of spending money on non number one centers and magically hope some late pick will turn into the next Z. Meanwhile Looch who is much younger, brings something the Wings lack signs with Edmonton. Backes in Boston, Okposo with Buffalo the east got heavier to play against but if course the Wings are going with a guy who may or may not help getting them to the usual first round exit. Jesus Christ So what's the center position now? Nielson Larkin Z or AA ? What's the endgame here? Pissing Mr Is money away and hope for a draft wonder? This team will need to be bottom out in order to get up again...yeah the Wings are an original 6 team which had tons of success but top guys are shying away from signing here may be that should give Holland something to think about -

can't believe this deal. Nothing against Nielsen but he isn't what the Wings needed. Not a number one center, not physical and then 6 years? having space doesn't mean you should piss it all away rather have had Looch, Backes or Okposo at that term
