    EC on paper for 15/16.....

I think it is too soon for an overall prediction but teams that are still better than the Wings would be: Tampa obviously best team in the east Rangers - defense and well they have King Henrik Washington - offense with the addition of Oshie, Williams plus a very good defense Islanders - they are for sure a team on the rise Montreal - thanks to Mr. sweeping the awards Price Pittsburgh - with the addition of Kessel this offense is unreal Kessel - Crosby Columbus - I'm sure they are hungry for more after the injury rattled season last year and Columbus really did finish strong So - let's see which team will make the better changes - Ottawa, Detroit, Florida and maybe even Buffalo are going to fight for the last playoff//wildcard spots

The bolded part is exactly why he won't net us anything close to a top 4 defenseman, other teams also have prospects like him hence why everyone is asking for the 2 ones with the greatest potential Larkin and Mantha.

Wow I thought Getzlaf would be at 9 + so thanks for the list, need to look more often at generalfanager I guess. Anyhow: Toews would have easily gotten a max contract which is 20 % of the salary cap, so that's 13,8 million annually - guy left 3,3 million per year ! on the table that's an enormous paycut as did Kane. Also the Crosby and Ovechkin deals have been signed before the CBA ended, Toews, Kane, Getzlaf, Perry and Giroux didn't have the luxury of signing front loaded creative longterm deals.

People are dreaming if they think mid range talent will net the Wings someone like Shattenkirk, Armstrong is already on thin ice in St.Louis he is not going to trade another huge core piece for junk again I am sure it would start with Tatar and then add from there

How often has this happened in the not so distant past ? Sure Toews and Kane took a pay cut but they are already getting paid a huge amount of money. Players can't keep their AAV down anymore because of the stupid new rules. Buffalo just added a future star center in Eichel and a very good second line center with ROR they aren't ready yet but their future is very very bright. Columbus needs defense just like the Wings do. Wings also have to replace 2 former elite centers soon and there is nothing even close ... With some luck Larkin will lessen the blow but other than that creativity will be needed. The thing is a pay cut is something like a few hundred grand but over 20 % less is a very big pay cut maybe you are right and he doesn't care much about it but I am having a hard time Goose would leave over 7 million on the table over 6 years.

Don't be brainwashed by Holland's lowball offers and it really doesn't matter what the situation is, it's the job of a GM to figure it out not the job of a player who is signing his third contract and has outperformed expectations by a mile.Something like 1,5 million a year is more than just a pay cut that's exactly 25 % less than Saad is making on an annually basis. Z took a contract which isn't possible anymore and even if it were the circumstances were much different back then , players lined up left and right to play here and this team was a cup contender on a yearly basis...That's not the case anymore. But both sides now have almost two months to get something done so that should be enough to figure something out. Also Nyquist is represented by Newport sports and they are known for getting the best deals possible , so unless the new deal doesn't at least start with a 5 and then some Goose would be stupid to accept it.

That's the point I'm trying to make the comparables are all there and if he would be an UFA, some team would pay him more. Yes, he isn't but if this goes to arbitration the award will be a lot higher than most of the offers here.

Saad may be overpaid now but in a few years his contract will look like a steal. Pulkinnen has his work cut out for him so that's a different story. I mean what comparables would be there to award him anything less than 5 million? He would be stupid to accept a bridge deal or a long term contract paying him less than what he would get as an unregistered free agent...if the Wings don't like it they can always walk away or maybe they'll reach an agreement before sa..but to act like 3 to 4 mill would be fair for what he brings may be false.

Saad 52 points, 203 lbs, 22 years, 2 cupsGoose 54 points, 180 lbs, 24 years, no cup I mean if people know another comparable please name him. So Saad is worth 6 mill per do people honestly think Goose is worth a million less than him? A few hands here and there sure but if it goes to sa I think something north of 5 will be awarded. Maybe I'm totally off base and he'll get less but I just don't see it.

I think he'll get north of 5 how far north will have to be seen, but if people expect 3 - 4 they are in for a surprise

    Nyquist Files For Arbitration

Ok who is there to replace him ? I mean are people really expecting Goose will be awarded 3 - 4 mill if it really comes to sa ? I just don't think so

    Nyquist Files For Arbitration

Only 3 of them are "big fish" Holty, Goose and Stepan This will be an easy one for his agent, Saad has 52 points is also a left-wing but won 2 Stanley Cups while Gosse is older, has more points but no Stanley Cup so I expect something close to 6 mill.
  14. frankgrimes

    Nyquist Files For Arbitration

If I'm him I'm not signing for anything less than north of 5 mill AAV but if the player is filling for sa it means the team can walk away from the awarded sum which basically means he would become UFA. I think his award will be at least 4 mill per year, Kadri just signed for 4.1 on a 1 year deal with the Leafs and he isn't even half the player Goose is plus Goose doesn't have commitment or attitude issues.

    Saad traded to Columbus

Pasha and Lidström had the luxury of playing before 2005 and make a ton of money in that time frame. Players are faced with more and more limitations which should already be enough reason for them to desertify and then challenge the current system in court with a landslide win. Fans can be upset all they want but it still has been Sakic who didn't want to pay him market money, that's why I think they should direct their anger to him and not ROR. Also Kane and Toews signed similar deals to the one Saad just signed

See I think it's irrelevant how much the league itself is bringing in, there are lot of franchises doing well so why not spend it? Leagues need super or real dynasty teams to get fans interested in the sport. I'm not that emotionally attached to players, owners so it don't care if a player is asking for what he seems use fair. Heck Nyquist could ask for the moon like 11 over 8 and I still wouldn't be upset. Do I think a team would pay him that? Hardly but I just don't care enough to be upset about stuff like that. It's the same with Saad he asked fire a fair amount of money, Bowman said no and both sides moved on. And it will be the same with Nyquist. I mean the avalanche fans are mad at ROR although Sakic didn't offer him enough they should be mad at him. The reason why I can't side with the owners is simple: they aren't interested in a partnership with the players, they want to pay as less as possible and still get all the talent in the world...it didn't work that way and thankfully our owner isn't like that and I guess we all know how our roster would look without the limitations that are unfairly put on him. Like it or not but I guess Nyquist and Danny D are going to be our own Hamilton and Saad like situation and Holland better be prepared for it in terms of salary. Again players do have a limited amount of time to make money for a life time and some injuries can really derail or even cut that amount of time short. Also show me one person which would say no to a better deal just because of being fair? Especially after their employers have kept a team responsible for failed expansion, 3 lockouts and basically making the life of a GM too complicated while also killing trade dead line and ufa excitement.

    Saad traded to Columbus

    1. Nyquist is not a center 2. Nyquist is not Patrick Kane 3. If a team was willing to offer whatever amount of money than this is his market value, period. At this point the Wings would have 2 options match it or let him go These stupid lockouts will continue till the players are finally fed up with it and decertify, so owners are free to spend whatever they want. Players are making to much money ? *lol* compared to the thugs and showboaters of others sports they aren't making nearly enough...NHL players are the most humble down to earth guys, they are excellent athletes in more than one aspect (skaing, hand-eye coordination, stick-handling)...why shouldn't they make as much as they want and why shouldn't ownersbe allowed to spend whatever ? If a team is willing to have a 300 million roster why not, if others don't want to spend more than 20 million on their roster fine, but they don't cry fool because you can't get the best players and only ice a better AHL team. There was a time when I thought about hearing both sides but after the last lockout, nope not interested in that crap anymore especially since they are still employing guys responsible for 3 !! of them. Nyquist can ask for whatever term and aav he wants, if Holland doesn't pay him that he will sign somewhere else simple as that and I will for sure not hold any ill-will against him or any other player for trying to cash in while they can, it's simple market and demand. Look at some of the UFAs who are still outthere, they overpriced themselves and now they are waiting for calls which is _ again _ supply and demand. Wheter people think Saad is worth such a contract at this age or not is irrelevant, Columbus thought he was worth it so they've signed him. Players can still sign bridge deals but they don't have to and it will less and less comon that upcoming or at least close to upcoming stars are going to sign such deals.

    Saad traded to Columbus

Because of people like me? Sadly I don't own an NHL team I'm just a wings fan but I will always side with the players. Why should he do that? As shown with the Saad and Hamilton contracts they are worth much more so signing a "prove it"contract that's way beyond market value doesn't make sense. People really have to realize now how pissed of the players were with the last lockout the time of taking under market contracts and being forced into bridge deals is over. Fans are crazy if they think Nyquist will sign for anything less than a long term north of 5 contract. Which like it or not is his market value.

    Saad traded to Columbus

Saad is a 22 year old left-wing with 203 lbs who just won a Stanley Cup i.e. COULD be an emerging star. Nyquist while a very good player is turning 26 soon, a bit undersized and hasn't won a Stanley Cup. So would I pay him 7 mill yet? no but for sure something in the 6 mill range, to buy out some UFA years.

What's not to like a young big upcoming star getting paid well. Would have been over the moon if Holland offered him that hell I would have been happy with 7 too.

Voynov pleads "No Contest" to Domestic Violence Charge

An animal doing community service that's a punishment to the community and not for him. The only real justice would have been to put him in jail and then deport him back to Russia and let them deal with it.
