Babcock granted permission to talk to other teams
frankgrimes replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Man if that's true the Blues will jump to the top spot. They have it all size, offense, defense and that grind it out kind of style. Plus their captain is an absolute beast and role model. A Babcock coached blues team watch out west. -

I wish people would look at all the young guys buffalo has they aren't a mess and Pegula is their version of our Mr.I Philly has some defensive weapons like Morin coming .. Toronto well they have Reilly, Nylander and the 4 oa other than that not a whole lot. But let's keep in mind that the fate of some other coaches hasn't been decided yet, so if he checks the market the interest will skyrocket ..I sadly think he won't be back -

Nylander is just the newest Leafs toy in 2 months the number 4 pick will be the saviour there. Still can't believe that the Leafs passed in Nick Ritchie -
Some guys have played over 90 games this season why would they go to a meaningless tournament ? They should enjoy their time of and then get back on their routine. WC or that upcoming joke named world cup of hockey are useless

WCF : (3) Chicago Blackhawks vs. (1) Anaheim Ducks
frankgrimes replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I've never had such an easy time rooting for the Ducks. I hope Getzlaf, Kesler, Perry and Maroon are grinding the Hawks down. -
Wrong I know who that guy is, @a great goaltending coach in Arizona with the permission to talk to other teams.

This year's ufa buzz should be renamed coaching buzz because there are tons of big names available. -
Their fan base is to big for the Leafs own good. I remember threads about Gardiner and the Norris, Reimer Vezina and now all of a sudden they want to get rid of these guys. Then add to that all the people who are more annoying as the media there..thinking that players shouldn't have a private life and that a rebuild can be done in 1 year ..I feel bad for their sane knowledgeable fans they really deserve better but man TSN just confirmed that the Toronto job is GM in title only ..Shanahan is going to be the final voice a guy with no experience wow.

What if the point is that a rebuild is needed? Babs was spot on with his post series comments, Z and Pasha are on their last legs and it would be unfair to expect Larkin to fill that hole once they're leaving or only 3 liners. -

Cherry is just awesome an hockey icon and great guy through and through. See now some people might be able to understand how some fans felt after Holland got his 4 year extension... -

Look I'm not saying that's wrong, all I'm saying is this: If the whole thing is about "fresh/new" whatever people want to call this ideas I think a new GM would be needed too. Just for the record I think Blashill will one day be a fine NHL coach, sure there is always the risk of becoming a another Dallas Eakins but he also could become another Jeff Cooper, Guy Bouchér . Look at what Boston is doing, they've missed the playoffs by 2 points, fired Chiarelli because they didn't like the direction and if the new GM wants another coach Julien will be gone too. And that after having much more success than the Wings have had in the last years. So yes it's possible to change direction in one season like I said I wouldn't want Holland fired, guy has a ton of experience and is good at finding talent in the later rounds (a lot of that is also the work of mr. magic Hakan Andersson) but I would someone who isn't as attached to his own picks/players as Holland and will make moves to better the team while the 3 remaining big dogs are still somewhat capable of putting the team on their shoulders from time to time. Sorry for bringing up Holland but I think changing the coach is not enough if this is really about a different appraoch. -

Same here and then people will realize how hard it is to replace the best coach in hockey by far. I mean Babcock got this team into the playoffs when most people were thinking they'd maybe contend for a top 10 draft pick -

If it's really about that than a GM change should have been made when this team still had the chance to make The Captain Holland's successor or at least not lose Nill I mean, I know the people who don't like Babcock and are thinking Blashill will just step in and work some "magic" why not bring in a fresh GM too and let Holland be the president of hockey Ops like more and more people are doing ? I think Ray Shero (GM) and Holland (VP) would have been such a great combo one is too conservative and the other guy too aggressive. I mean changing the coach doesn't change the roster or philosophy but changing the GM and allow him to bring in his own guy with new ideas does. -
What's our draft position this year? And best defensemen available
frankgrimes replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
My god what's so hard to understand about fans wanting local heroes ? I'm not saying don't draft euros all I am saying is that a team from Detroit should focus on Michigan boys first if there isn't a huge difference in terms of skill, size... Yes it's true I'm a Euro myself but I don't think there is anything wrong with expecting a team to have more than a few local heroes ? I mean look at the Toronto boards people there were rightfully pissed that the Leafs didn't draft the gta guy Nick Ritchie. And then their so called management has the audacity to be surprised when Cherry calls them out for it. Sure if that Provnov kid falls to us take him but there is the KHL risk and a good chance someone before us will take him. As far Anaheim they have Cogliano, Etem -

It's important for identification with a team. I mean the new arena will open in 2 years (Pasha gone by then), Z a third line center .. So something to get the fans excited for this team again will be needed! Bringing in a young hard nosed defender - preferably from Michigan - would be another step towards more identification and therefore better crowd outcomes -
I think at some point he will ask for a trade which would be the best outcome for both sides.

No, I'm not going to stop it, it's my opinion don't like it don't read it. Fact is, Green was a 6 million third pairing defenseman and has an injury history. Wings have gambled on guys like that and it's save to say it hasn't worked out in most cases. Detroit doesn't have a sniper so someone who can only run the PP but lacks in the most important area doesn't help much, at least not at the price tag Green will likely command.Yeah a pp qb is needed but it can't be someone who's risky in his own end.

There are enough euros on this team, wings need a gritty big bodied hard nosed player, preferable a defender -

Even if he is interviewing others and getting their opinions is not a bad thing especially if these guys are named Tippet, Hitchcock or Julien -

King Henrik that guy and game 7 is like -
Agreed I mean haven't the Wings learned by now ? It's not wise to bring in players with a serious injury history or pay a premium for a third pairing defenseman. Yeah I get it Washington has Niskanen, Alzner but Green should have been able to at least get a top two pairing job. Wings need a big bodied physical shutdown type and someone who can run the PP.
