Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?
frankgrimes replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
As much as I've come along on the Franson thing I would not trade a first rounder for an upcoming UFA, unless it's someone of an even higher calibre and that guy is not available. Franson is from BC so I could easily see him signing with the Canucks come the off-season. A second and a B level prospect might be worth it because the benefits would be a.) ~ 2 months of exclusively negotations and b.) being able to offer him 8 instead of 7 years ( = more money). He has the size to bring back Kronwalled although it would be Franson(ed) but either way a nice addition. -
Thanks for all the tips saw how it works and still not a fan would prefer the keyboard for communication or at least something like Teamspeak where you can decide to mute other players and even ban them from the channel. Anyway back to topic just ordered MK-X usually I don't pre order but damn I want to play as Goro.

Nice find but please write Nyquist bigger I've had to zoom in a lot to read the gname on my phone. Anyway I think the amount of money these guys are fined is a joke, suspend them for 2 games after the first warning and then they'll learn.

I give him and others a ton of credit. Yes, we as fans have the luxury to play armchair GMs and also the luxury of not knowing what goes on internally. That being said I think we all can agree that some moves just can leave someone head-scratching i.e re-signing some guys that shouldn't have been re-signed at least not for that amount of caphit or not buying out certain players. I fully agree with you I think Lord Stanley is bar the toughest trophy to win so many things have to go right and it's one heck of a grind by the time these guys reach the finals they might have played ~ 95 games. The thing I don't like is how radically Holland changed his approach - again I know GMs should know what they are doing and are having their reasons - but going from one of the most active GMs in the game to someone who does almost nothing and just watches the by far best team in the league going to very good then "only" in the mix to not being considered serious contenders is odd to me (I get it we know have something called salary cap...) but there should be some middle ground between being the most active and one of the least active ? Wouldn't you agree. Yes, this upcoming UFA pool is bad the biggest UFA will be a non player and we all know who that guy is but if the amount of talent Holland and the scouts (don't forget Hakan that guy is wow !) have gathered over the years is wgood Holalnd should be able to use some of them as assetts and get a top 4 defenseman.

B Every GM - including MacT, Snow and even Feaster - is better at being a GM than any of us fans are. There are only 30 GM jobs and it's extremely hard to get this job. Same thing goes for coaches, assistant GMs..So that's nothing new Holland did set the bar incredible high by getting the players we've missed and Sather and him were the most active GMs on trade dead lines and free agency if the team needed improvement(s) but for whatever reason his approach changed and he became much more inactive. The Avs just lost EJ for an extended period of time and they are lucky if they even make the playoffs at this point.. Lol at Boston, Los Angeles and Chicago being risky picks...

With already 14 loses en suite and with games against St. Louis Blues, Habs and Tampa Bay Lightning coming up they could at least break even with the early caps who managed to lose 17 en suite. If they accomplish that, place 30 should be locked up way before the trade deadline. They really know how to tank it
-
Yeah and we are already seeing rats like Rinaldo acting tough against guys like Letang would he do the same thing if they still had Engelland? Maybe but then he would smash his face. The day a Super star gets hurt by a rat week be the day when guys with passion are going to be back. Hockey for sure is better with players like Prust. Also love the site great incite on what's going on in the life of pros
-
It's really amazing with that amount of talent the oilers should at least show some improvements.
-
The difference is guys like Prust only think about something like that but the Rinaldos, Cookes and Torres of the world are actually doing it. Will someone like Prust deliver devastating hits? Sure but he is going to back it up against other tough guys. His job is to keep the other team honest and given his 2.5 cap hit he is damn good at it Prust is the type of guy who will fight just to give the team some energy and the fans something to cheer for even if they are down 3:0 like he mentioned
-
Yep when I think of Hockey Players Prust is one of the guys who immediately comes in mind he is tough, humble, honest, physical and a great leader. Every hockey team would be better with such players on their team.

At least Gilmour knows the market and has experience Shanahan has 0.

LOL I've said I'm not expecting much this year and wouldn't have been surprised if they didn't do well. I've also said that I'll reserve judgment till some things are impossible. I know for myself what a joke is and what isn't I don't need you or some of the other "Holland is god and we pump the thread after every win with another 2,5 words posting" telling me about their definition of a joke , thanks. And guess freaking what if they make the playoffs I'll be positively surprised shocking I know..
-
So what is it ? Expecting the cup each year is seen as too much but being realistic also isn't right...
-
Their situation is unbelievable other than Nonis nobody in that front office has experience and yet some of their fans want Dubas to take over already wow. Go ahead fire Nonis and then they have nobody with experience.. They should have hired Gilmour as the president of Mlse he owns a team and is the GM.. Shanahan has been a GM
-
Yeah well it's better than expecting too much and be disappointed at the end.

Strudwick talked about that too people often forget how long it took Chara to develop his mean streak in the NHL but once he did he became one of the absolute best defenders in the game. If Myers can even turn into a Chara light his value should sky rocket. Let him bulk up, develop a mean streak and at 27 he is going to ragdoll a lot of people As far as Leafs fans they will run Kessel out of town soon and according to some of them Nylander is the next coming of Sundin..Franson at 7 per would obviously be too much but something a bit under Niskanen money might get the job done -
Watched Blues versus Tampa which was great game then switched to the Wild pounding the Hawks was great to watch. The Kings might have hit a wall they've played a lot of hockey in the last three years and Brown's game isn't where it needs to be. But I think Lombardi will pull out another magical trade dead line.. If they get in again they'd probably be the hottest team at the right team which will scare every opponent. But if Lombardi can't find help Kings might miss and come back hungry and fresh next year. McDavid in that fishbowl man that would be something else good thing is they don't catch Edmonton and buffalo.

See I've said nothing else since the disappointing - yeah I know some don't think so - off-season. I've just went in with no expectations at all if they make the playoffs fine, if not I won' t be disappointed and the young guns will still be one (although a tough one) richer. Do I like the roster/playstyle ? Not really I believe it could use a more size, grit and truculence but that's a discussion for another topic. Of course I wouldn' t have been disappointed with a top pick either especially in such a deep draft.
-
Maybe but they really don't deserve either one. I mean this would be their 4? Top 5 pick in a row not even the pens were that bad
-
OEL always was a pipe dream from the get go. Just rewatched his interview he mentioned OEL second after Doan that cost would be high and I'd still do it If Franson only costs a 2nd and Marchenko I'd do it he could be the big hulking defenseman we've missed since Kronwall went non kronwalling
-
Why are people questioning McKee all the time? He will be a fourth liner laying guys out left and right with big hits and drop the gloves if needed his job isn't to score goals. If there's no defender available draft Greenway and then Meloche in the second round
-
Not even Edmonton could ruin those two
-
Greenway is an awesome name and I like his size but like others said we need defense. If and that's a big if Zach Werenski falls a bit he would be very nice. 6,2 and 214 I would draft MacKenzie Blackwood just because of the name every team needs their own Greg McKeg
-
From all the teams in the running for him I think buffalo deserves him the most. Don't blame the player blame the system.. As good as Matthews will be he is nowhere near close to McEichel

Even if they are rebuilding leafs need to keep some pieces and I guess jvr will be their next captain. Just looked Franson up on elite prospects that guy is a big rugged defender could be the much needed combination of a physical shutdown defender who also provides offense. In that case a second would be a steal. And it would show kronwall to become kronwalleder again. The more I think about it the more I like that trade but why would Nonis trade him to a rival? Guess. Leafs will send him to the west
