There are of course hundreds of draft sites. Learning who to trust takes some time. But if you read what they all say and don't say you learn things. For example: http://futureconsiderations.ca/playerprofiler/JAKE-BEAN/ Lots aof talk about his offensive game which is very good. Nothing about his defensive game. here is another with the same type of review: http://www.draftsite.com/nhl/player/jake-bean/23447/ Now good look at his stats and you see kid that loves to score and attack the net but not defend his own end. This is not fatal, just the area of his game that is weak and needs to be developed.

He has said the right things, then done little to fix the problem. As I have said many times on the forum in many different threads, Holland needs to act. There is zero debate about this.
-
Well that lazy over rated "role player" for the Griffins that couldn't help the RW's, has 3 goals in 3 playoff games for the Grifs so far. Mantha, Lil Bert, and McCollum have carried the Grifs to round 2!

I read a lot of different scouting reports on players. Over the last 20 years there are some that I trust and others that I don't based on track records. Doesn't mean I am right or wrong, I just give my opinions based on the information I gather. Nothing more.

Bean is a defenseman that doesn't play defense. He is a smaller version of Smith. Yes he could grow/will gain weight. He also can learn to play D. His strength is passing/playmaking. But he needs a lot of work in his own end. There are other directions that I would go over drafting him.

Well..... Did he really just admit that the cap is keeping us in contention? Then go on to say he "doesn't want to do a full rebuild". Don't those 2 statements contradict each other?
-
You mean like Jones the 6-3/205 LW from Detroit that most "experts" have in the 15-20 range?

To fix the blueline we need 2 maybe 3 new players to do it. We have Dekeyser set for many years to come as a top pair guy. Kronwall has a year or 2 left before he isn't a second pair guy-if he can get healthy. Maybe Marchenko can become a #4. But that is it. 1 top 4 guy, a getting old guy and a young maybe. So we need 2-3 guys over the next 2-3 summers. Targets: UFA's summer 2016: Yandle 6-1/195 30 LHed good for 45 pts a year. The key here is term. A 5 year deal? Yes do it. A 6 or 7 year deal? I would pass. Chances are when he is 35 he is breaking down and not producing. Demers 6-1/200 28 RHed good for 25 pts per year. He is a 2nd pair guy at best. A KFQ replacement? Benn 6-2/200 29 LHed good for 20 pts per year but strong defensively. His brother got the star gene's...... Schenn 6-2/230 26 RHed good for 20 pts per year strong defensively and physical. He is an upgrade over KFQ, but is he a top 4 guy? That is about it on the UFA market this summer and next year is much worse. Trade targets over the next couple of years. Fowler 25 6-1/205 LHed good for 35pts per year. Signed for 2 more seasons. Faulk 24 6-0/215 RHed good for 40pts per year. Signed for 4 more seasons. J. Johnson 29 6-1/230 LHed good for 40 pts per year. Signed for 2 more years. McDonagh 27 6-1/215 LHed good for about 35pts per year. Rags are looking at a serious shakeup-if the press is to be believed.... Shattenkirk 27 6-0/202 RHed good for about 35 pts per year. Signed for 1 more year. Carlson 26 6-3/215 RHed good for 35 pts per year. Signed for 2 more years. Trouba 22 6-3/205 RHed good for 20 pts per year. RFA this summer. Those are my targets. None are cheap. If we can get 2 plus DD and Marchenko develops the BL looks a hell of a lot better.

With Holland saying the right things one has to wonder, how active he will be? I think that will be determined by how far/close Holland thinks the team is away from competing. IMHO we need 3 summers of serious work before we are ready. Others may disagree with and think we are closer/further away.
-
No chance in hell they ever trade him. Just not worth the time to talk about. Now Shattenkirk on the other hand could be had for the right price. In some ways he fits our needs better being RHed to pair with Dekeyser.
-
This is what happens when you have a team getting worse. It will continue for a while.
-
He said the right things, now the proof is in the pudding. We he make deals? More thoughts on this later....

Not a big fan of Bean.

A positive that I read today was that Holland himself admits we need to get bigger and grittier. He used to say all the time that you need one big tough guy per line. Back when we brought Bert. Then he moved away from that idea-we haven't won a cup since then.
-
thats not why he got fired. He was in charge of the tigers nearly as long as Holland has ran the wings. I think it was on WIIMT that had a piece about some of the backroom stuff. The story mentioned that Holland does maintain full control over who is on the roster. An example was last year Babcock wanted to keep Oullett on the team after training camp and Holland forced him to GR. It also covered that both Babcock and Blashill allow the vets to assist in making lineup and PT decisions.

Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams
Richdg replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in General
KHL stats mean nothing. In fact his stats should have went up playing in a no contact league. The fact that the stats are the same tells you something. -
Dombrowski though the same thing.

No. 8 years ago he had 1 good NHL season and scored 26 goals. 8 years is a long long time in pro sports. This is not the move we need to make. Not to mention he has a piss poor attitude. -
Does this mean Holland will "kick the tires" and then take a "test drive" before doing nothing?
-
So... with the 16th pick in the 2016 NHL Draft the Detroit Red Wings take...... If the answer is any of these players I am happy: Chychrun 6-2/195 LH D Sergachov 6-2/205 LH D Brown 6-5/215 LH C Jones 6-3/205 LH LW Michigan kid The 2 Dmen may not be there when we pick. All 4 make us a better organization. None will be ready for 2-3 years. In the second round with pick 46th here are the guys I want: Hajek 6-1/200 LH D Bastien 6-4/210 RH C Riddysh 6-1/200 RH RW Day 6-2/230 LH D Michigan kid******** Day might be the most talented kid in the draft but has some serious attitude issues going on. Needs a firm hand to develop him. If a team can do that, he will be a steal. But there is some serious risk here. But we are also talking the second round. This is were teams should be taking some risks.

Public support is often the death nail for coaches and GM's. That being said IF Holland wants to be aggressive, be careful what you wish for. I want moves yes, but these have to be the right moves. I fully understand that there are no sure things, but there are moves that increase the risks of failure. We have to avoid those at all costs.
-
I will guess Abby for this year. DD will get the next letter, and then larkin will get one. In a couple of years all 3 letters will be held by Michigan boys playing for the RW's.
-
Hmmm.... Cleary is still under contract witht he RW's, he just happens to be playing in GR........ While I agree with the thought and would be welcoming to change, I am going to call BS here a bit. The last 3 drafts do not fit into the "small skilled Euro" camp. Mantha 6-5/213 French Canadian, Larkin 6-1/190 American, Svechnikov 6-2/205 Russian. That does counter the claims dramaticlly. Yes we all know someone somewhere that tells us things. But doesn't mean it is correct.
-
Not what I want, but would not be shocked at all. With Holland openly talking about "building through the draft" the last couple of years and his intense loyalty to our guys, I don't expect much. I hope I am wrong. I would love to see 3 big moves trades+UFA's this summer.
-
One of the things that concerns me is that we are going to start next season with a 23 man roster made up completely with guys the RW's already have signed. Would anyone really be surprised if we start the 16/17 season with this type of roster: Nyquist-Larkin-Abby Mantha-AA-Tatar Svenchnikov-Z-Jurco Helm-Sheahan-Glendening Miller Dekeyser-Smith Kronwall-Marchenko Ericsson-Green Oullett-Sproul Mrazek Howard Be honest now, how many would be shocked by this roster? I would not. It would also be a roster that breaks the streak.
