Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

It wouldn't be a great pick-up at all if it costs us our first round pick. Right now we're 5 pts out of drafting 8th overall, and 8 pts away from picking 6th. That would give us around a 10% chance at picking 1st overall. Our Captain is injured for the rest of the season, and will be lucky to be back even for the 1st round, and our best player is clearly playing injured to the point of not practicing on off days. Maybe I'm overvaluing potential but I think we're a far better team holding onto that pick and all our prospects rather than gambling that Ehrhoff who hasn't exactly elevated any of the 3 teams he's played for to new heights, will bring us back to the cup. Also I wouldn't say Mrazek is untouchable, of all our top prospects he's probably the most easily traded. He's not going to be more than a back-up goalie for at least a few years, and would probably be better served playing somewhere where he'll get to start. The problem is goalies with no NHL experience aren't going to return much no matter how high their potential.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

The problem there is that Weiss is a huge question mark having played so few games over the past 2 seasons and being locked into such a long term expensive deal. Quincey on the other hand is on an expiring contract so he'd be nothing more than a rental to a contender. You'll need to add a 1st round pick, or a couple blue chip prospects to that if you want to get a top pairing defenceman (which is what we need) and even then it doesn't mean anything if we don't have Datsyuk and Zetterberg healthy come playoff time.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

If they're taking back bad expiring contracts they're going to want even better prospects in return, who do we part with, Sproul, Ouellet, Backman, Mantha, Mrazek? Not to mention our 1st rounder. What happens if Datsyuk decides he can't play on his injured knee any further and gets shut down for the year. is our team even with Ehrhoff good enough to make the playoffs missing both the eurotwins? Then we'd be in a situation where we'd have a lottery pick for the first time since its been in existence and it would be Buffalo's. Unfortunately we're caught in limbo between being a buyer and a seller and generally its smarter to do nothing in that situation.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

I think the best move for the team is to do next to nothing. If you can offload some unnecessary players for late round picks, great, otherwise just stand pat with what you have. The cost of guys like Kesler and Edler will be our youth that has resurrected our season (Nyquist, Tatar, Sheahan, Jurco, Dekeyser), and neither would make us a significantly better team when you subtract the guys it would cost to get them here. Trades are good when you're looking to add that final piece to a cup contender, or if you're looking to blow things up and start over. The Wings aren't in either situation. They could possibly become a cup contender should a bunch of things work out in our favor but realistically we should be happy if we are able to make the playoffs considering the injuries we've had to deal with.

Jan Hudec a Canadian skier buried a lucky loonie at the finish line of the Super G course as well. He became the first Canadian to win an Alpine Medal in 20 years.

Personally I don't think the NHL stops participating in the games. Ironically for fans its probably their greatest enemy (Bettman) who will be the person who convinces the dissenting owners that not only is it a good thing for their relationship with the players association its good for the sport. It would also further damage their chances of luring Europe's best players to the NHL, and could cause some to return home as you can bet the KHL and the rest of the European pro leagues will continue to send their players.

I think the US were a lot better than they showed today, and I think Finland was underestimated from the beginning of the tournament. They play excellent team defence and their offence is underrated as well, they transition to it quickly and when they get a lead they can expand it just as well as they can protect it. In a 1 game elimination style tournament there is a group of 5 teams that should always be considered absolute gold medal contenders, and another 2 that aren't too far behind. Should be an interesting game tomorrow, it won't have the emotional rivalry attached to it like both teams faced in their semi-final games, but with a gold medal on the line I don't think there will be any lack of motivation for either team. It also has 2 goalies that have had great tournaments facing off vs one another. As a Canadian Wings fan I won't be upset regardless of the outcome

You're forgiven because you're from Winnipeg and I'm sure he is special to the city. His whining about refereeing vs the Wings and team Canada have soured me on him completely. Legend for sure, but he'll never be among my favorites.

This is something that has always bothered me about North American teams. When we lose in the Semi-finals we go through the motions in the Bronze medal game and always get shelled. Its why when making medal predictions I will only put Canada and USA in Gold, Silver or out of the medals. Hats off to Finland though, not only did they show up to play without most of their center depth they put to rest all the questions about their offence with this win. I have to wonder if they'd be playing tomorrow if Rask had've been healthy for their game vs Sweden.

I'd like to see the US come back in this game. They deserve better than going home empty handed. it may only be for bronze but a comeback mirroring the one they gave up in the Women's gold medal game would be a fitting end for the American Men's team

And while the US may be sad over the loss, at least you're not saddled with Rob Ford.

First, its illegal to kill the bald eagle, not to share a picture of one and if it was, the law enforcement agency who originally posted the photo would be just as guilty as me. Second, if this thread had devolved into what it is now before I was done them I definitely wouldn't have posted them. I didn't want to contribute to the rubbing in at all. If the pictures are bothersome to any American's I'll happily take them down Third, I agree with your first paragraph 100%

It was a great game, and until that final horn blew I was convinced USA was going to tie it. Really impressed by Carlson and Quick in todays game. Hope you guys take the photoshops in good fun...I'll happily do more at Canada's expense vs Sweden.

Since I did the Kessel eagle photoshop how do the American fans here feel about some shops from the other side? Honest question, that was a tough loss and I don't want to rub it in.

Did you American's learn nothing from Vancouver's Cup run? We don't cry when we lose, we burn things like cars and buildings. Although buying liquor stock isn't a bad idea, you should probably buy stock in harder stuff than beer, not enough alcohol to make a suitable Molotov Cocktail.

    Olympic Hockey Streams?

Currently that Proxy server isn't running and the site I get them from has no other ones running in Canada. Hopefully one will be up before the game starts.

    Olympic Hockey Streams?

If that's against the rules I'll remove it. The stream is legal, all I provided was a way to bypass the geo-blocking. It's not illegal to connect to proxy servers.

I just posted a Canadian Proxy server that was working as of yesterday in the thread asking for streams of todays game. If its still running, you can watch the rest of the Sweden/FInland game there.

    Olympic Hockey Streams?

The proxy I was sending people at the start of the games stopped working but this one was working yesterday. I only tested it in Chrome, so if you're using it as your browser here is where you go to enter the proxy settings and the proxy server. If you're using Google Chrome go to your settings, then to the bottom and click show advanced settings, then go to Change Proxy Settings, LAN Settings, Select the checkbox for Use Proxy Server for LAN, click on advanced. Then delete the info under "Secure" and put this in under the HTTP field. 184.107.159.155 Port - 3128 Let me know if you have any trouble.

According to the girl between the benches the Referee had warned both benches that there would be 0 tolerance on slashing at the goalies, It had happened to that point too many times on both goalies. I also think the ref was in a bad position when she made the call, from behind the goalie the "slash" looked bad, from in front you could see she just tapped her pad. I don't think it should have been a penalty but it was still stupid of Lamoreaux to do when they had been warned just a few minutes before. It wasn't Canadians that accused the US and Russia of cheating on that one, it was a well respected French news outlet that accused them before it even happened. I'm sure some Canadians cried foul when the report came true, but I don't think most Canadians know the first thing about Ice Dancing (myself included). I can't say which team was better, they both looked the same to me but for a long time the whole sport of figure skating has seemed corrupt. In fact today its South Korea claiming the Russians conspired to steal a medal from them. Not sure what that has to do with Hockey though. Win or Lose I think this is a worthy photoshop challenge.

Defensive much? Nobody said the teams you played were scrubs, although some have said they didn't play very well when they played you. You also haven't had a goalie play out of his mind like Canada had to deal with vs Latvia. Look at the domination in zone time, and the difference between shooting %. The US offence is finishing its chances, while Canada is generating more but for whatever reason they aren't finishing theirs.

General ramblings about how bad Russia coach was for rolling all 4 of his lines instead of just playing NHL players. Some stuff about the inferiority of the KHL compared to the NHL. Some jokes about how the Russians could get some NHL game tape to see what Hockey played at an NHL pace looks like. etc.

His commentary after Russia was eliminated was so infuriating that I wish his mic had somehow been pumped through the arena speaker system. Ripping him limb from limb would have given the Russian fans something to focus other than the loss.
