I think he was actually still complaining that Crosby dove. -
Saying someone didn't play well isn't the same as saying they are lazy. Also it came from Helene St. James' not Ken Holland or anyone else within the Red Wings organization, which is who you said called him lazy, and why I immediately knew it was false. Holland would never speak like that about any player, he's way too professional for that. Lastly even though I really like Ryan, He;s basically a younger Franzen. As soon as he hit his first slump you'd have a feminine nickname for him too and then you'd have 2 guys you hate on the team.
-
That's not even close to what you claimed he said. All that tweet said was that the Wings lost interest in him after they played him in the playoffs. Not that Holland said he was lazy. Also it was a quote from a reporter not from Holland and it wasn't quoting him.

He already had one. His GM was in the building watching his future goalie frustrate the hell out of his offence. Stevie Y must have felt pretty conflicted during the game. -
The show us the quote...or stop claiming its a fact. Also the irony of you saying we don't value proven goal scorers when you're advocating buying out Franzen is pretty spectacular.
-
Seeing the play again I was wrong about the long change.

If such a thread or quotes exist you should be the one producing them since you're claiming it as a fact. I don't believe they exist. You keep using the words facts and opinion, but I'm beginning to think you don't know the difference between the 2. I'm not going to trade insults with you though, I'll let people weigh my posts against yours and decide for themselves who seems more intelligent.

Latvia had a set play made up for if they finally won a neutral zone faceoff. Right off the faceoff win their defenceman took off to the bench, instead of having a different defenceman jump on they instead had a forward jump on from the absolute far end of the bench behind the Canadian defence as it was in the 2nd with the long change. The Latvian who had the puck then fired a stretch pass up the middle of the ice and sent their 4th forward in on a breakaway before any of the Canadian defenceman even knew he was on the ice. It was a very smart play.

Well you know your team a lot better than I do, I already said though that I didn't agree with the KHL players being the cause of the loss. I thought it was the top line's struggles that really hurt Russia, and Popov was on it every time I saw them other than the first game when it actually scored a couple goals. Maybe Ov should have been playing with Datsyuk then, at least he could stand around with his stick cocked and have someone who could put the puck there. Either way I think in a short tournament you have to break up any lines that aren't clicking because there isn't enough time to develop chemistry, you either have it or you don't -

Great at times, and like he's nursing an injury at other times. More good than bad though, and he should be ready to go when he gets back from Russia. -
Should be a good game, getting Duchene's speed in the line-up is a plus. I just wish it was in place of Kunitz rather than an injured Tavares. The US has been cruising through this tournament so I assume they'll be the favorite, but Canada has only surrendered 2 deflections and a stretch pass breakaway on a trick play that I doubt any team would have seen coming. If the Canadian offence doesn't find its groove I don't like our chances. I think the defence can keep the US offence in check, but 1 or 2 goals probably wont cut it against an offence playing as well as the Americans. Can't wait. Technically speaking we've been 2nd and 3rd.

A semi-final vs the USA requires nothing from Babs as far as motivation. If you're not motivated for that already you shouldn't be playing the game. Also that wasn't really a poor performance, it was a goaltending clinic by a prospect. He almost faced more shots in that game than Canada has surrendered in the entire tournament. That being said, if our offence continues to be stymied facing the US it won't end well for us. Our defence has played great but its unrealistic to expect to shut down the US the way we have everyone else we've played. -

Nichushkin disrupts defence as well as any other player on that team. I think he'd be a perfect compliment to Malkin and Ovechkin, despite any defensive deficiencies. When he drives the net he pulls defence out of position, and probably would have provided some room for Ovechkin to get some shots through. My mistake on Tarasenko, I meant Tereshenko who put up a beatiful goal vs Norway and also to me deserved more time than Popov. I don't think the problem was a KHL vs NHL thing though, many of the KHL players in this tournament have looked a lot better than their NHL counterparts, I just think Popov should have been moved off that line when it became clear they weren't effective anymore. Its like Babcock constantly keeping Abdelkader or Bertuzzi on the top line in Detroit. -
I agree about the Sammy, Cleary, and Colaiacovo signings, (Not so much Millers though). But then you go off the rails. Ken Holland tried to get Ryan from the Ducks and was working on a deal to get him for Lashoff, a 2nd or 3rd round Pick and Tomas Tatar. Anaheim wanted more and ultimately got it from Ottawa. It had nothing to do with Ryan missing time, and certainly had nothing to do with "Laziness". Chances are that more would have been Nyquist and then if Ryan went cold we'd have 2, 10 ton elephants in the room and we'd all die of suffocation. Also Alfie is only signed short term, so I'm not sure what your problem is with him. He's played great since he got here, enough so that I'd be happy if we kept him for another season.

I think the whole KHL thing is overblown, but I would have liked Nichushkin and Tarasenko to see a little more ice-time than Popov. Really I see a lot of similarities between how Russia was coached and how Canada is being coached now. Both teams have a struggling top line and their coach is stubbornly keeping the line together. I probably would have started Bobrovsky too, its tough to win any game scoring 1 goal, but I think that quick goal Varlamov gave up after Russia took the lead sucked the life out of the building and changed the momentum of the whole game. -

Pretty much this, although I would point out that Canada didn't really struggle with Latvia...they struggled with Gudlevskis. Defensively they're still playing great though, but the offence hasn't been clicking other than the one game Duchene was in for. Depending on how serious the injury to Tavares is, I guess he'll be back in for the semi-final. -

Latvia's goalie just played the best game any single player has played in this entire tournament. Should be a good match-up with the US, although losing Tavares is going to hurt. -

What game are you watching? Only the toe of his skate entered the crease and he was being shoved in there by the Latvian defenceman. He still managed to get back out before the puck went in and at no point did he even come close to touching Latvia's goalie. The goalie just lost the puck and slid the wrong way leaving Sharp most of the net to shoot at. Beautiful goal by Latvia to tie it though, defenceman have to be careful letting guys get behind them, there's lots of room out there for stretch passes. -

That would be pretty damn funny considering the tone of this thread the past couple days. At least we'd all be united in cheering for the Swedes with all their Red Wings. -

Finland's system is kryptonite against the style of game Russia wants to play. Even without their centers they'll be tough to beat for anyone in this tournament. -

Russia needs one here if they're coming back. I have to figure they'll be tired in the 3rd after playing yesterday. -

I'm not so sure about that cnot. Russia played yesterday, and will be facing a team that's very good at clogging up the ice. Russia was forced to dump the puck in a lot vs Norway and thankfully for them they had the speed to win most of the puck races, but those races will be much more even vs Finland. I think the key for Russia will be to jump ahead early, because if they go through the first period tied 0-0 and the fans get taken out of the game, I expect Finland to win a low scoring game with a late goal.
