I wouldn't mind Jagr and he'd definitely make our PP better, but the Wings powerplay is already becoming feared again. It was never bad at home, but since Franzen came back from injury and Flip got healthy we now have 2 units going and consequently they have PP goals in 7 or 8 straight games now.

Holland operated that way before the salary cap. Now he manages it far better than Shero just did by going all in for a cup this year at the expense of the teams future. Just wait and watch what happens to that roster over the next 3 years. They will lose more and more players due to cap constraints and won't have enough high level prospects to fill the void because they've dealt them or the draft picks they'd use to get new ones. Holland could definitely be more active than he is, but making lots of moves doesn't necessarly mean they were all good ones.

Bowman was a terrible GM, he is the best coach in the history of the game but one of the worst GM's ever. He actually attempted to trade Yzerman for Yashin but thankfully Holland and Co. killed that. Besides Scotty was kept on as an adviser to the coach, he had no say on the general managing of the team.

If he re-signs for 8.7 then they can't even come close to keeping the rest of their UFA's along with Iginla, Morrow, and Murray. I've tried a million different capgeek configurations with those guys and there is just no way possible to keep the Pens roster together without using at least 2 of the 3 guys picked up as pure rentals and letting them go after this season. Even then if Iginla is the one you keep you either need him on a 1 year deal or you need him to take a paycut. The Pens have too many important players with their contracts ending in the next 2 years and only one that will realistically stay at the same salary. Its Stanley Cup or bust for the Pens

The question is would he take a paycut? He'll need to take a fairly significant one for them to sign Kunitz, Orpik and Letang. There really isn't any way around it...the team as it is can't be kept together past this year, at least not without further sacrificing their future.

Then what do they do the year after when Malkin, Kunitz, Letang and Orpik all need to be re-signed?

They are in major danger going forward with the cap, they have very little depth to call up in case of injuries, and they still haven't improved defensively which is what got them ousted last year. Being aggressive like Shero and Holmgren is only good if you win, if Pittsburgh doesn't then all these deals will end up looking foolish. He's made his team the favorite, but he really didn't need to, his team already was the favorite in many peoples eyes. Now the weight of expectations are on them and nothing but a cup would be acceptable.

Pittsburgh still hasn't addressed their biggest problem and they've just sold a lot of their future in the hopes that they can win a cup. It wasn't a lack of scoring that saw them ousted by Philadelphia last year it was defence and goaltending. They are going to be in a world of trouble trying to retain all these guys. They have 10.6 million to try and re-sign these guys plus one player to fill out the roster. Iginla - 7 Million Morrow - 4.1 Million Murray - 2,5 million Kennedy - 2 million Cooke - 1.8 million Dupuis - 1.5 Million They better win this year because even after they navigate that mess they have to re-sign Malkin, Letang, Orpik and Kunitz the year after.

No agent would have allowed him to sign without hearing the other offers. I agree that just because he grew up a Wings fan doesn't make his signing with them a forgone conclusion but it will play a large factor. He'll do whats best for his career but considering he met with Detroit first, and then met with them again after everyone else it seems to me his agent is just using the competition to get as much (promise wise) out management as he can.

True but with the playoffs being focused more on inter division match-ups I figure its inevitable that the Bruins and Wings will be seeing more of each other than the Wings and Flames were under the current format.

You can look at EVERY SINGLE team in the league and say their GM could do better. Perfection is unattainable as a GM in any professional sport even more so when you are constrained by a salary cap. Could Holland do better...absolutely, but so could every other GM and when you compare their bodies of work I'll take Holland over any GM in the league...Possibly any GM in NHL history. A lot of that has to do with the management team surrounding him (Nill, Develanno both deserve a large share of the credit as does Hakan Andersson) but since Holland gets the blame for things that aren't his fault like guys not signing with us, he gets the credit for things that may not be entirely his work like stocking our prospect pool to its deepest point maybe ever

There is good and bad for the Wings regarding Iginla playing with the Bruins. It means we have to face a guy who has had great success against us far more often and as part of a better team but it also means that Boston will be losing some players from their current line-up. Going into next year they have under 8 million in cap space to re-sign Iginla, Horton, Rask, a back-up goalie and a depth player to fill out the roster. They also need to leave enough space for the year after when they need to re-sign Bergeron.

I think Management deserves some credit as well, even though several of our offseason acquisitions have been injured. If we didn't have them and those injuries happened to some of the rookies or even worse some of our stars we'd have next to nothing in Grand Rapids left to call up. Seasons like this are a great example of why you can never have too much depth. I'd rather have the problem of a cluttered roster and being forced to potentially waive someone than I would a situation where we have injuries and there isn't anyone in our system capable of filling in.

Its possibly not related but apparently Boston is also sitting Khokhoclachev, and Bartkowski. The rumor is that the deal consists of those 2 and Malcolm Subban for Iginla.
