    What Are You Playing?

LOL Tecmo Bowl. Sometimes you just need to have fun.

It's also not really fair to judge off of +/-. It's a decent guide, but not a rule. A guy can suffer in the category while doing nothing wrong thanks to linemates. The only way to tell is to look at how he's been playing.

Franzen should have been at Tae Bo class during the lockout

I'm not "people". I point out what I see and have been long before it became "cool" to do it. Truthfully I couldn't give a s*** what the flock thinks. I see what I see and I see a guy who floats. Some guys just don't work hard. In the Babcock era we haven't seen many of those guys so we're not used to it but in this NHL today a lazy top 6 player is death. Actually I lied. I do have bias. Towards the team. If you are holding them back because of prolonged laziness I want you gone. I don't care who you are. It takes a lot for me to turn on a player on the Wings and you won't see me say this about other guys. But Mule has been a total floater.

Yeah, must be bias. Couldn't be that you don't really know what's going on out there. No, that's certainly not possible at all.

^I dunno what Franzen you're watching but I keep seeing him attempt to stick handle, in spite of his ability to lose it every time. He's one of those guys with good hands who doesn't know when to stop. He'll dangle himself into a turnover. Franzen doesn't crash the net as much as he floats towards it and gets knocked down. I dunno how you s*** on an absolute beast workhorse like Flip and praise Mule. That's so backwards.

He's also taking on a role where he's going to be abused. He'd better learn to take it and get up. That's one thing I think we took for granted with Homer. We knew he took abuse but we took for granted the fact he'd get up as fast as he could, he could keep him balance pretty damn well and wouldn't sulk or float in his job.

Franzen should have been at Tae Bo class during the lockout

This is literally the only argument I ever see in favor of Mule. I am just going to call it beaten spouse syndrome. We're acting like his on paper stats outweight his on-ice negatives when they really, really do not. Laying on the ice, turning it over, floating, that cancels out some math-whiz goal vs salary BS. Sorry but it does.

I've said for a year and a half now, he needs to go. Take his 4 mil or so and put it towards someone who will put forth some effort and not set a horrible example. If only this guy had the work ethic of Hank or Flip.

Fans of other teams must be sitting on their forums talking about how we'd never want their trash while we're over here praising them. Yet all we can see is our side of the fence.

    What Are You Playing?

I've just learned to expect broken niche modes in sports games. I'm just more concerned with the gameplay and my comments were for people who think the gameplay is horrible especially compared to older NHL games. I think part of it's just nostalgia. Look at the praise the NHL series gets for it's SNES/Genesis versions, yet you go back and play them and nostalgia aside, they're trash.

Jordin Tootoo: Usage? (6:57 TOI vs. Columbus)

I think what part of it might be is that when we say we want a pest, or a fighter, we want the best pest or the best fighter in the league. As much as we'll avoid it or deny it, we're spoiled and we're used to having the best defenseman, the best coaches, some of the best forwards, the best defensive forwards, the best team, etc. So when we want something we want the elite cream of the crop even if we don't say it. Tootoo is a fighter. An agitator. A pest. But he's not the toy we wanted. We want a gigantic meat fisted cage fighter, play skilled be damned, let's go get John Scott!

Gonna post something in here before we go down a goal and everyone gets on a ledge and acts like we're the Columbus Maple Panthers.

Nino Niederreiter's camp has requested a trade

I'd check a few Isles blogs or forums before I lay judgment. Katie Strang may only be relaying one end of the story. Neiderreiter for all we know may know something we as outsiders wouldn't, both in the sense that we're not with the team and we're not Isles fans and not likely to know much. How often do you read the words of a non-Wings fan trying to speak about our team and just laugh? Because I do at how much it sounds like a game of telephone that started with us and ended with them. For all we know he may have no problem sitting in the AHL for a couple more years as long as he's with the right team and you can't say we don't fit that appealing "right team" mold. However I doubt we make a play for him but never say never.

    Lashoff

It's one game and you can't judge off of one game. But man did we ever think the season was over after the Blues game, right? He looked great out there. Time will give us a more clear picture on his ability but he looked awesome. I like Babcock's choices. It's a great feeling for a young kid when the coach trusts you and believes in you and an even better feeling when you deliver. What a great way to mold the kid.

Jordin Tootoo: Usage? (6:57 TOI vs. Columbus)

That's what I was thinking. Last night was one of those games where the losing team gets a bunch of weak calls their way and before you know it, they're in a hole and trying to dig uphill with make-up penalties until the game became a bit of a joke. The tripping call that resulted in their 3rd goal? I don't think our guy even extended his arms or legs, the Jacket player literally dove around him and dove to the ice and sold it. And the penalty against a Jacket for whatever he did to Abdelkader was laughable too. Tootoo won't play a ton as a 4th liner who doesn't kill penalties. His role is different. We may not be used to it.
  17. I think we want to complain so badly that we'll turn a Huskins signing topic into a debate on whether or not Holland prepped enough for Lidstrom's potential retirement. Aren't there enough threads about that, and aren't there enough hijacked topics too? Huskins signing has nothing to do with Lidstrom. This isn't a bad deal no matter how bad we want to get that rush from judging our GM.

KHL develops new system for deciding draft picks

On paper the biggest con I think would be that the 9th best team in each conference would get the 1 and 2 pick and the worst teams will stay terrible. But the counter to that would be that you just need to finish fairly high, and make your 3-10th pick worth it. There are plenty of cases where a high 3-15th pick turned out better than a 1 or 2 pick. The odds aren't there but it's not a landslide, it's possible. And it might eliminate the ridiculous artificial parity the league has now, where tanking doesn't just get you the top pick but you're rewarded with a stacked roster for constant poor play. It's causing a predictable merry-go-round where bad teams get good, good teams get bad and everyone gets a turn. Naturally since the NHL didn't think of it, and the ghetto ass KHL did, they will never adopt this idea. And bad teams becoming good is their short term marketing money maker. It will never happen sadly.

Jordin Tootoo: Usage? (6:57 TOI vs. Columbus)

This. We want a fighter and when we get one we complain that he's somehow not a fighter? We want a pest who can also play and not be a slug in lead skates? And when we get him we desperately scramble to discredit him by using his TOI after 2 games? Don't we look for things to bother ourselves with?
  20. It's amazing how cynical some people are even admitting that they know nothing about him. I drafted lots of Ducks and Sharks in fantasy hockey over the years and got to watch a good chunk of his games and he's not fast, he's not super offensively skilled but he's very solid in his own end and won't make a ton of mistakes. And for a bottom pairing guy that's what we should be looking for right now. We've got enough offensive defensemen and you don't need more of them on the third pairing. Third pairing should just be able to go out for 15 minutes a night, stay at home and not make any mistakes. He's not lazy, either. He's pretty intense and works very hard. But he's big and that means he has to hit for us or we hate him.

    New Defenseman: Guess who?

I thought I heard Kubina was playing in the Czech league, unless he can escape that contract. I'm not sure how those rules work but that'd be a hell of a trip. Czech to USA in 9 hours and be ready for a game? That'd be bananas.

    New Defenseman: Guess who?

Remember when people tracked the plane for Suter? Maybe check out where it could be going this time. And if it's not in the air, the player can't be more than a few hours away. ....I get bored before work. ....................Hell I get bored at work.

1/21: Red Wings 4 at Blue Jackets 3 (SO)

Phantom calls until the Jackets are back in it and now winning. LOL. The NHL never changes. Refs determine these games.

    Wings Looking For Defenseman

They could definitely play but we're afforded the opportunity to let them ripen a little more in the AHL. They're not there because they have to be. It's like when Helm came up-he could've stayed quite easily but we chose to send him down. Yeah, Holland must be lying for some reason. It's all a conspiracy. Occam's razor, man. He's just playing more minutes down there because we don't have to drag him up now. I'm not sure why you keep bringing up Datsyuk.

    Wings Looking For Defenseman

Tatar and Nyquist can play in the NHL. We have them in the AHL by choice. Winnipeg could start them, or if they're smart, groom them on their AHL team like we do but whatever. If we trade them I don't care what they do with them.
