So....did Cleary just take Tatar's spot?

Because panic is therapeutic. For GMR, doomspeak is therapy. Think about it like that and suddenly almost every single post he's ever made makes sense.

So....did Cleary just take Tatar's spot?

I lurk here once and holy s*** I can't believe how bad it's gotten. I just had to reply. Maybe you'd throw a fit too because you never matured out of the stage where you only see 2 inches past your nose. It's the only way you could convince yourself Detroit has some sort of history of s***ting on young and/or loyal players. Someone will say they do but what they really mean is they're mad their exciting new toy spent one season in the AHL more than they'd like. Fact is they don't s*** on them, and if Tatar could show some patience it'd pay off greatly. If he has to be traded then whatever, buck the f*** up and make yourself look better with a better attitude. Even if you don't like it, you're essentially a business and you have to sell yourself. I don't like Cleary as a player much and I'm pretty sure I was noticing this long before anyone else. I routinely got told I was nuts or stupid or whatever so this is a little funny to see now. I don't mind Cleary in a third line role away from the PP. On the top 6 he destroys offensive zone rushes/possession. He drop passes to no one, coughs up pucks every time he touches them, etc. But he does grind it out hard and play a role and more importantly he plays a huge role in the locker room. That's more important than I think most people here will or even can realize. They're not trading cards and this isn't f***in NHL on Xbox. We're not stacking a HUT team. Leadership and guys like Cleary are valuable outside of their shift to shift duties on the ice. Tatar doesn't have to go anywhere if this is settled by getting rid of Emmerton, Sammy somehow, maybe Gus, someone else. There are options. Before you light your goddamn hair on fire just relax. And I can't believe people are talking about a bad return for Sammy, like what the s*** do you think we'll get for a 34 year old tweener who isn't too bad but isn't great? After a year of injuries? f*** a return, just move him. 3 mil is the return. This league isn't 30 paranoid GMs looking to screw each other every chance they get-favors are done and Sammy isn't some 15 point useless bum. Someone like NJ who needs forwards and has cash could get him for a wink and a handshake. All it takes is someone on the cap floor, or someone who needs a forward like him and has the cash to pay him for one measly season (which we do not in our circumstance).

    Trading up in the draft...?

I was just thinking, would you trade up in the draft to acquire a high enough pick to land a legit #1 defenseman? We haven't had to before, but to me that isn't a good enough reason to not do it if the scenario warrants it. Adapt or guarantee your well will run dry one day regardless of how often there was water in the past. I was wondering if we notice a glaring need for a #1 defenseman, would you do trade with someone for as high as the #2 pick to grab a stud defenseman? I know this conversation has been had on Wings forums for years but I think now might finally be the time to actually think about it, since in the past it was more of a want, and now it might be a need.

Pretty sure my interest in hockey, after 30 years, has just died. Peace.

Bingo. I went back and watched and he didn't. It's true, whoever said it earlier. 1 goal game, third period, nationally televised. Cue the manufactured drama.

Because as usual not everyone thinks as poorly of our whipping boys as we do.He's a very good, experienced talented player. He's had a bad beginning to the season.

    Trading Filppula

Bingo. They're impressed as hell with Hudler. He's been very good but man, he was mediocre compared to the skill we have in guys like Pav, Hank, Brunner or various other guys. It's like impressing tech-illiterate people with decent computer tricks lol.

    Hudler/Brunner

Funny I didn't see those things. I'll go back and check if I've got some time. I'm curious, I want to get in on this early before this becomes a rep he can't shake. I've never seen him pull a Kane though and be covering a guy deep with the opposing team pressuring and just skate away while the guy directly in front of him still has the puck.

I don't really care about standings. We're a better team. They've gotten better but for various reasons to me we're still more appealing.

    Why consider it an attack?

Couldn't he waive it? It's not like we're Winnipeg and he'd pitch a fit. We're better than Carolina and he grew up nearby. Not that that would guarantee anything but it'd help.

He tried to play it to the left, his stick broke. If you're going to blame him for things, make it the less sensational accurate things and not the ugly looking thing that wasn't his fault. White's great when paired with someone who he doesn't have to compensate for. I don't know if we have that right now. If we're trading him, it'd better be for a better defenseman. I could see White and a pick or prospect for Gleason or something. Who knows. Could just be us trying to motivate White.

    Hudler/Brunner

The signs were all there before the extension. He really got worse after it but it's not like he was ever truly skating hard at any point in this league.

Ed Olczyk, professional broadcaster, professional idiot

Not to mention the old fart team is 4 plays behind what's going on, and the other team calls Vancouver games and is voiced by Hughston, who is your prototypical annoying homer who thinks Vancouver's s*** doesn't stink.

I did that too. The harder you hit, the less it hurts you and the more it hurts the other guy.
  20. If Quincey was traded for a 7th round pick or signed as a FA something tells me he'd be playing better.

Ed Olczyk, Keith Jones and Mike Milbury make Idiocracy seem less like a comedy and more like a documentary.

    Hudler/Brunner

For a real good laugh go read pretty much anything posted in the general hockey discussion area. I've seen some of the stupidest comments in my entire hockey following life posted there. And Brunner isn't a liability on defense. A liability is someone like Patrick Kane who sees the puck in his own end, the other team possessing it in good position, and decides to just skate away from Pavel Datsyuk for a hypothetical breakout pass. Or Ilya Kovalchuk when he would just do figure eights by the blue line/neutral zone looking for a pass for a breakaway or odd man rush. Brunner backchecks and actually tries. He's not making the best reads compared to the rest of our team (still by far the best group of defensive forwards in the game) but he's back there trying and I've seen a few good plays from him.

Ed Olczyk, professional broadcaster, professional idiot

Olczyk's always been an idiot. And not that kind where you say it because no one likes him, but honestly he's just a dullard who is extremely biased with moronic opinions. And this just adds to his sparkling track record of stupid comments. If it's not stuff like this it's him hating whoever is playing Chicago and trying not to scream it out loud. No one likes that. It's why Ken and Mick are so great. They're obvious homers and don't hide it, and they acknowledge and often compliment the other team.

    Gus Nyquist...

I wouldn't even bother with people claiming Nyquist has done nothing. They're trying to view the forest while standing an inch away from a tree.
  25. I've seen it happen. Depends on the context. Players, teams, situations they're in, etc.
