News From Around the NHL *Mod warning page 75*

yikes, that doesn't look good. -
Then why bring him up at all?
-
Considering he's doing it with a minor hamstring injury, I wouldn't judge him at all by it. Again, pointless to bring this discussion back up, nobody's convincing anyone of anything. I'd just like to know what type of season he needs to have to quiet all the random, unsolicited "he's overrated" posts. On another note I must have missed that sequence by Seider, that's a nifty entry and pass. Pretty stoked about this guy.

I'm not looking to get into this again, though it seems like you were clearly trying to bait a response out (something you were accusing others of previously). For my own reference though, what would you consider a successful next year for him? Just wondering what he can do this season that'll make you think "maybe I'm wrong" or something. Curious to see how our expectations line up.

3 on 3 just started for anyone interested.

https://theathletic.com/1051402/2019/06/28/phil-kessel-and-the-penguins-a-breakup-held-hostage/ Behind a paywall but if you have a subscription it's an interesting read imo. tl;dr - Phil Kessel is a turd. -

Never heard of it, but it sounds interesting. How would you say the trades are? Somewhat realistic or NHL 19 realistic? edit: for anyone interested, it's on sale right now for 5 bucks. Normally 20. edit edit: something something Haula traded to the Hurricanes. -
Still pretty excited about this guy. Also I find myself going "wow" a lot when Hronek scores. Dude shoots rockets.

2019 Offseason Rebuild Thread, Pt. 2 - What's the Yzerplan?
Wheelchairsuperhero replied to Dabura's topic in General
I'll miss Frk. Watching him always made me think of Happy Gilmore. -
Talking about not being able to win, your counter argument is essentially "nuh uh, we drafted for need, it's obvious." We have a need literally everywhere, Yzerman came out and said "we're just drafting the best prospects regardless of position" and you're still going nuh uh. I'm gonna side with the GM and KR on this one, you're being obstinate. Hard to argue with someone who'd just assume they're being lied to rather than believe they're wrong.
-
This guy gets it. IIRC he even said they weren't drafting for need and this was just how it played out. The other guys they were looking at for 6 were taken already (I'd guess Byram and Dach). If you don't believe him when he literally comes out and says "We're just trying to draft the best prospects available" then I don't know what to tell you. Disagree, I think this logic is faulty. It tells me he knew there was a possibility he could get the guy he wanted later because he knew the consensus had him lower, and was trying to maximize assets. Yzerman mentioned in an interview that the focus of development camp was going to be educating them on being professionals, and less on conditioning, because they have varying background/experience. He included how to eat properly when mentioning that. I think It's fair to include that as an obvious benefit of playing here in NA, where team staff can help him with all that and essentially monitor him.

I was too busy scoffing at that post and judging anyone who believed it to go and actually look the kid up.
-
I went and watched a couple games of his I could find on youtube, the passing was immediately noticeable. He hits the tape a lot. Obviously wasn't my first choice, but I'm happy with it. Tbh I hadn't looked into him at all prior to us taking him.
-
That was a quick no.
-
I was hoping for him too.
-
after reading about him a bit I do too. I also like the Tuomisto pick.
-
We apparently still only believe in lefty forwards.

https://dobberprospects.com/player/antti-tuomisto/ February 2019 – Tuomisto has had a tremendous season in the top junior league in Finland. He has been good enough to earn promotion to the Liiga level but he has decided to decline that opportunity because he wants to preserve his NCAA eligibility. Because of that, Tuomisto hasn’t received the kind of hype he deserves. He has also been a great player for Finland at the U18 level in various tournaments, and he’s expected to play a major role for them at the U18 Worlds. Tuomisto is an offense-minded defenseman with good puck-skills and a great shot. His skating is good for someone his size, and it’s been getting better all season long. Tuomisto’s defensive game needs some improvements but because he has great size and good hockey sense, it’s reasonable to expect that part of his game to grow. He hits players to separate them from the puck but doesn’t go looking for big hits. He’s very lanky at the moment and will need at least a couple of years to add more muscle to his frame. Tuomisto has top-four upside, and he’s likely to get drafted in the second round this summer. Jokke Nevalainen I think we got a good pick on our hands here.
-
Yeah I get that. I mean why wasn't he ranked higher? He's big, good skater, righty, good offensive game, good defensive game. What am I missing?
-
So what's the knocks on this kid? So far what I've heard has all sounded good.
-
It's like Yzerman came to Detroit, looked at our D and was like f*** that, we need to fix this. Proceeds to draft all giant right handed defensemen.
-
Same. Or at least that's how I felt until the camera showed him picking his nose yesterday while having severe goomba face.
-
Good hockey sense, strong shot. Skating, compete level and his face considered issues.

Saw someone post on reddit "Next year we get his brother Deepin." I find that joke alone makes the pick worth it.
