Concerned - we might not make it in to the playoffs
DetroitRedWings1993 replied to RedWingsRox's topic in General
Management never was going to do "enough". They spent all the time they could've spent making deals telling us about how they weren't going to. We're in a rebuild. Whether it's by our own choice or by it being forced on us with management's bad decisions/lack of decisions is the real question. I don't see us making the playoffs. Too many teams who improved too much around us. Some were already better. We aren't catching L.A. and will probably be passed by younger, better, faster, hotter teams. It's time to look forward. -
Huberdeau. Nugent-Hopkins before the injury. Cory Conacher. Brad Marchand (first full NHL season, true rookie season). Jordan Eberle was no slouch. John Tavares. What's your definition of "dominate"? Of course rookies aren't going to "dominate", depending on your definition. "Dominate" is a subjective term. Stars? Plenty of those amongst first-year NHLers. Every prospect we have on D is extremely boom-or-bust. You don't build franchises with feast-or-famine players. I agree to a certain extent. I think it's more his complete and utter failure to acquire anything of real, lasting quality since Hossa that creates it. This fanbase is hungry for a move that gets us going. We want to see a new face and watch him play. I'm included in that crowd. We're out of luck, however, as the rebuild is upon us and there won't be much to cheer for for a few years coming.

What's there to be all sunshine-y about? The team isn't that good and is going to get worse before it gets any better. We don't have a truly high-end prospect to look forward to. A bunch of good ones, but no true stars. We're headed for a top-10 pick in the near future. Hope we spend it well. This season is headed to the golf course. It just depends on how early or late the tee-time is. There aren't any FA's that fit our immediate needs and there will be many re-signings from that already-weak class between now and when free agency opens. We have very few truly NHL-ready prospects and Datsyuk and Zetterberg aren't getting any younger. Accepting reality means being a downer when the organization is the way it is.

Just let the little puss walk. Soft, inconsistent, and not smart at either end of the ice. We already screwed our chances of getting anything for him, and if Kenny wants to pay him $5 mil, then he needs his head examined. Franzen with less size and ability.
-
Yes. Granlund, Brodin, and Coyle all as prospects and the Wild got fleeced. They had a few elite prospects to give and acquired a heart-and-soul guy who scores goals. Totally different situation. Young, hyper-talented, deep, and on the rise. They are a legit Cup contender and they added to an already solid team. Relying on Bert, Sammy and Helm for offense... That about explains how bad things have gotten. Interesting point in the last sentence.
-
Exactly. But instead of Nyquist, Sammy stays and takes Fil's spot.
-
The rebuild is on, folks. There's no way around that. How good of a rebuild it's going to be is another story. The sooner we cut ties with White, Colo, Sammy, and Bert, the better. We can't have this anymore. No more useless old men or injury-prone risks. Just cut the fat and accept that the team is headed back into the toilet for a while.

Holland is going to either A) re-sign Filpulla for MUCH more than he's worth or B) lose him for nothing. This will NOT end well. There is literally NOTHING available in the offseason that fits our needs. The rebuild is on. May as well accept that and move on.
-
Why? They won't be ready for AT LEAST another 2 years.
-
Comeau to the Jackets for a 5th rounder. Wash this through your head for a minute...the Blue Jackets have made more moves than we have.
-
Columbus may have just taken our spot in the standings. Minny's already ahead of us by a mile. Wonderful day. Everyone around us getting better while we get worse. Hello, rebuild!
-
Pominville to Minny starting to gain steam. Writers picking up on it.
-
Gabby to Columbus pending the trade call. Pominville to the Wild is circulating, but extremely shaky. Nice going, Kenny.
-
I just hope Kenny is ready to die on this sword.

Oh yes...everything's just hunky-dory! Hey, let's bring Derek Meech back!

An interesting point about our apparent deadline strategy

He's a product of the centers he's played with. He's been spoiled. -

You're suggesting that Franzen is anywhere close to Kesler and Parise and I need to back away from the keyboard. Utterly ridiculous? No, what you just suggested is utterly ridiculous. The only thing worse than a Holland apologist is a Franzen apologist. You need to be medicated for this nonsense. Franzen is a gutless softie who has only put up the goals he's managed to because of the centers he's played with. When Datsyuk is on the ice, why pay attention to one of the biggest underachievers in hockey? He better put up some goals with those circumstances. -
Who gets better than us tomorrow? San Jose? Edmonton? St. Louis? Who are we going to be looking up at in two weeks' time?
-
I sometimes confuse him and Ted Lindsay. Either I'm a terrible fan...or I'm onto something.
-
Have I ever told anyone about how much I love spending deadline day talking about other teams' moves?

Scum that skates hard, forechecks, hits, fights, leads, and scores goals? I may not approve of some of the things he does, but he's so much better than Fil it's not even funny. -
7. Cap-compliance buyouts are coming. I'll see what's out there then. 8. Those players wanted money. What's that all about?

Ryan Sproul to play with the Griffins for the rest of the year

We're committed to youth, remember? Damn the team's record and the playoffs, right?? -
We do. Helm's not coming back. Accept it. No one has any clue what in the blue f*ck is wrong with him. Every time he gets close, he has a setback. We can't count on health. That's called desperation. He should try getting to 17 before he gets to 40...

Perceived? Name me one time where you looked at Franzen on the ice and said, "Wow, that guy's really skating hard." Produces...when? When he feels like it? Sorry, not good enough in today's league. Parise makes more than twice his cap hit. Ten times the player Franzen is. Kesler makes more. Twenty times the player Franzen is.
