10/23 GDT : Penguins 3 at Red Wings 4 (OT)
matthewdanna replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
HOLY JUMPIN'! Character building game... looked like we were fighting the puck a lot of the time and couldn't pull the trigger (Helm) or finish chances (everyone) until desperation time. But great quality at the end. The PK is great, the PP is awful... tho the last PP had chances. Honestly didn't think either team played their best, but... HELL YES! We can beat that team in the playoffs... their D is suspect. Bring on Philly! -
I'll play... C - DD A - Gus A - Sheahan
-
Any news on his progress? I can't see to find any and I didn't hear anything mentioned during last night's game

Exactly This same strategy has worked out great for Edmonton

gdt 10/15 GDT : Bruins 3 at Red Wings 2 (SO)

Jimmy had an awesome game. Smith was out best defenseman (again) Glendenning was noticeably good Zetterberg was noticeable off The Griffin line is going to keep on getting better. I like where we are right now... now let's get Pavs on the ice! -
Exactly! Here's what you do (Bettman)... move Florida to whichever Eastern Canadian city you want to grace with a team (Hamilton, Quebec City, etc.), redraw the divisions, and expand two teams. My solution: Metropolitan (almost all of these teams are near the Atlantic)--> Atlantic: Carolina, New Jersey, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Washington Atlantic (only one team is actually on the Atlantic)--> Northeast: Boston, Buffalo, Detroit, Columbus, Hamilton/Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Midwest: Chicago, Colorado, Dallas, Minnesota, Nashville, Saskatoon/Kansas City, St. Louis, Winnepeg Pacific: Anaheim, Calgary, Edmonton, Los Angeles, Pheonix, San Jose, Seattle, Vancouver

It's Sunday and I am still pissed about yesterday's game. I felt from the start of the 2nd period we dominate the play. I loved the way we were skating and deserved a better fate. Fricking brain hemorrhage the way that game ended. If I was Kronner, I would have taken off my skate that threw it at the refs head... the ref up the board stopped watching the play to pick up a stick. Pure crap. Nesty did not look good... the 4th line, however, was awesome. Q had a good game too. I'm missing Pavs.

Datsyuk to play Thursday? Weiss to be a healthy scratch?
matthewdanna replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Stephen Weiss is 32 years old on the buyout date of June 15, 2015, setting the buyout ratio at 2/3 and the total buyout cost at $10,000,000, in addition to $1,000,000 in signing bonuses, spread over 6 years. His contract was originally valued at $24,500,000 beginning in 2013 and ending in 2018, with $15,000,000 remaining from the buyout year forward (which does not include $1,000,000 in remaining signing bonuses that are paid regardless of buyout). The following is a season-by-season breakdown of the buyout. A negative buyout cap hit indicates a credit. Not too noticeable, but played hard... skated fine. No major mistakes and didn't fall down (Cleary). Need to see him play more.

Didn't watch it until midnight PST... B.Smith = fricking awesome game. I don't even care about the penalty... thought he was right there with DD for 2nd star. Franzen = badass... he did it all tonight. Give him credit. Other than that... great energy in the 2nd and beginning of 3rd putting pressure on Boston. Ran out of gas at the end a little but, still a decent effort. 2 pts!

Wings can always eat part of his contract to get rid of him in a trade. If Holland CAN trade him, he should get some props.

Signed Wings re-sign Cleary $1.5 mill + $1mill in game bonuses
matthewdanna replied to anthonyn66's topic in General
Ok, So let's say we sign Alfie and with Jurco up we have 15 forwards... one too many. If Cleary gets dramatically outplayed in camp, or a month into the season he just plain awful, we send him to GR, he passes through waivers and we eat $1.5M in cap space and we bring Jurco back up. OR Someone gets hurt in camp and the point is moot to start the year... OR Cleary turns water into wine, raises the dead, and [insert your own favorite cliche]. OR One or more of our forwards is/are getting traded Maybe we have someone hurt the majority of the year, he's up on the big team, but is a healthy scratch most of the time... then he could be a like another coach/mentor for the young guys that are up. Who knows what was actually said behind closed doors last year. If the DRW are just keeping their word on some deal they promised then they are doing the honorable thing. Now, I wouldn't have signed him last year in the first place, but I kinda look at it as if Holland signed him to a two year dear last year (cough Quincey this year)... The bell was already rung on this deal. I'd still say that we have bigger fish to fry. I DO believe we need a RH D-man and that means trading one of our D-men at some point. -

I can't believe this -
Thank God B.Smith has never made a mistake like that...

I hate Hossa. Always have, always will.

I am in favor of signing Lidstrom

Thought you guys would want to see this.
matthewdanna replied to CaliforniaWingsFan's topic in General
As much as I hate Montreal I hope they sweep Boston. Garbage -
I honestly doubt that Calle would have cracked our lineup. We have a S-ton of centers. The way I see it Sheahan > Jarnkrok

So... About those injury updates
-
1. I say we cut bait on Weiss and use our 2nd compliance buyout on him. 2. Bert, Cleary, Sammy are all gone 3. Bridge contracts (2 year) for Tatar (about 1M), Sheahan (about 1M), DeKeyser (about 1.4M) 4. Make a run at Ryan Callahan if TB can't resign him before FA. 5. If Alfie wants to come back at take less $ (say 4M next year) then so be it... Jurco starts the season in GR 6. If we don't get a big FA forward, then we think about resigning Legwand - But where does he go? Pav, Helm, and Sheahan are all centering lines next year - Is Legwand better than Helm or Sheahan? Are we going to pay 4M+ for a 3rd or 4th line center? 7. Make an attempt at a top pairing FA D-Man like Markov. Most likely, he will stay in MTL. Unfortunately, there aren't many options better than Quincey out there. 8. Make a trade to free up some room. Would be awesome to get an extra pick or two for the loaded 2015 draft.
