Seriously... I know I'm gonna wake up tomorrow and he's gonna be in the hospital. Didn't it look like he lost consciousness when he hit the boards? That's how it looked to me.

Where is that Nyquist gif from yesterday. Howard is the story of the first period.

Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd
matthewdanna replied to gcom007's topic in General
I will also take a wait and see approach with this move... The fact that Pav, Z, Weiss, now Helm are out means we need a veteran center badly. We had no leverage at the trade deadline. I really like Eaves, but his time here is over. Jurco and Sheahan have played their way onto the team. Calle has been one of our most highly rated prospects for some time, but here are 3 things to consider: 1. he might go back to Europe (most people have mentioned this) 2. He is yearS away from making the Wings roster. Sheahan is better than him, so is Andersson (who might have to play wing or on the bench next year)... we have a ton of centers (when healthy) 3. He is tiny (5'11" (maybe) and 165 lbs)... how would that ever help us? The part of the trade that I dislike the most is the conditional pick that turns into a 2nd if we make the playoffs... It should have been a solid 3rd, that's it. Now if we do end up re-signing Legwand (not sure how likely that is) what do we do with our lines next year? We will have too many centers. Assuming Alfie comes back... Z-Pav-Alfie Nyquist-Helm-Mule Tatar-Sheahan-Jurco Weiss-Legwand-Abby Andersson-Miller ??????????????????? somebody else needs to go. We should seriously consider buying out Weiss and cutting our losses. We still have that compliance buyout. -
We aren't making a trade. We don't have expendable assets, it's that simple.

Ryan Miller, Steve Ott traded to St. Louis Blues
matthewdanna replied to Namingway's topic in General
Agreed. 1. Stewart > OTT 2. Miller was not going to re-sign in Buffalo so you need to get something 3. Plus picks: 1 guaranteed 1st, and one that has a good probability of being a 1st Good trade for Buffalo -

I didn't see him stumble, limp, or wince, but it seemed to me that he never tried out his top gear.

Olympics provide much needed time off for Red Wings

half our team is playing in the Olympics... -
Going back to how this thread started... I do think we would have been better served starting the season playing the younger guys more and scratching the vets, but I don't know by how much. With the GR guys, maybe the start in the AHL helped them get their mojo and their confidence going and now they're reading for the big time. Tatar, on the other hand should have started from the jump and I would have waived Sammy from day 1. But, then again, maybe Tatar is playing angry. Without being able to go back in time and prevent some of the injuries we have had (Z, Pav, Mule, DD, Helm, Alfe, Howie all have missed plenty of games) I don't know how many more wins we would have. Maybe the Vets got the benefit of the doubt for longer than they deserved, but what's done is and done. At the very least we can be happy that they're making a better effort to keep the best players on the ice. I mean how many people would have thought, or even requested, that Jurco be playing over Cleary. Nyquist sure, but Jurco? AWESOME! How many people thought Riley would be this badass? Now its like he can't we sent down. Anyways, we need wins. And if we can keep winning then I believe we are going to keep as many of the GR guys up as possible.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

I say we delay the retirement of #5 and get Swede to play a half season and the playoffs... if only hockey players were like Brett Farve -
Pavel Datsyuk ✔ @Datsyuk13 Follow Traveling with @DetroitRedWings to Florida. Hoping to be back in the lineup tomorrow! 11:19 AM - 5 Feb 2014 Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk practiced on a regular forward line Wednesday and hopes to return for their game Thursday at the Florida Panthers. Datsyuk, out the past 14 games with a knee injury, skated with Darren Helm and Daniel Alfredsson, according to a report by Ansar Khan of MLive.com "It wasn't bad, yeah, I can move," Datsyuk said. "Better every day. Now I skate with the team, and it's more fun and more enjoyable and more confidence." Datsyuk, who was named Russia's captain for the 2014 Sochi Olympics, has 15 goals and 32 points in 35 games this season. In order to activate Datsyuk from injured reserve, the Red Wings would need to make a corresponding roster move. It's expected defenseman Jakub Kindl, who won't play in either of Detroit's final two games prior to the Olympic break, would go on injured reserve if Datsyuk is ready to play. http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=703882&navid=nhl:topheads

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Calling Lidstrom a superstar is putting it mildly... he is arguably the greatest D man of all time... But, in 1997, I do not think he was a top pairing D man, his minutes went way up the following year after Vladdy's accident. -
Can the DRW prevent him from playing in the Olympics? If they can, they should. He shouldn't see the ice until after the Olympics. The DRW pay his salary, not Sweden. That being said, I hope Sweden and Russia bow out early and do not make the medal rounds. Let the Canadians get beat up.

Here's why I like this lineup... Jurco on the top line to learn from BOTH Pav and Z - would have a huge influence on his development. If all centers are healthy, Sheahan plays over Andy - Has to! Reminds me of McCarty, except smaller. Tatar and Sheahan have a true veteran and star to learn from on their line..Nyquist doesn't need that as much as he is the most developed. Now on that second line, I might experiment with Mule at center on Weiss on the wing every once a while. Helm on the 4th is fine as long as he gets some PP time. Defense is pretty much what it is as I don't see us getting anyone.... But, how would this be possible roster and cap wise. I assume Andy stays up with Eaves and Glendening would go down, but there's still Cleary, Emmerton, Bert... I doubt we get to keep Jurco up.

I feel like we don't have a lot of leverage to get any type of super star, top pairing D. We don't have enough for Weber, maybe we stretch to get Carlson, and I want Bogosian, but he just re-signed. I wish we could give a team a draft pick and retain some salary if they would take part of Sammy's contract off our books so we could actually make a move. I don't see us trading for any forwards with number of contracts we already have and how the Griffins have acquitted themselves in the NHL. At the same time, guys like Tatar and Nyquist haven't really played that much, so while we might love their potential and appreciate what they have and can do, we definitely inflate their value as Wings fans - remember they aren't big guys. I bet other teams would value Mantha higher than both of them. Sooooo... Do you trade Mantha, Kindl, Andersson, etc... stop... We keep Mantha I would trade Kindl, Andersson (Sheahan and Glendening are both better), Eaves, and Quincey, but they aren't really assets. What are they really worth unless another team is really trying to drop salary in a major way. And If it was between Jurco, Nyquist, and Tatar I would also trade Nyquist, but I don't see us doing that either.

I wouldn't call Columbus a train wreck... they have been one of the hottest teams in the NHL
