There are 3 lies. Lies, damn lies, and stats. Even fancy stats don't tell the whole story. As far as Jurco goes, I remember Blashill says nh Jurco needs to skate harder, not be able to skate harder. That implies an unwillingness to put forth necessary effort.

Speaking as someone who has back issues, they don't go away. If his back is the reason he's not playing at 22 years old, how bad is it going to be in 3 years? As far as his effort goes, Blashill flat out said he needs to skate harder if he wants to play. That's an effort issue. Because Miller isn't there to score, he's there to kill penalties and play a checking line role. Jurco is supposed to be this highly skilled player, isn't good defensively, and doesn't kill penalties.

Fringe NHL player with decent speed and not much else. No real loss.

There are 4 possibilities why Jurco isn't playing. Blashill hates him. His back is FUBAR He's not doing what is asked in practice and/or off the ice He's just not that good. I don't buy #1. If it's his back, at his age he better start planning his post hockey career. If it's effort, that's 100% on him. If it's ability, then nothing can be done, he just isn't an NHL player.

Except at the NHL level, that is

Abdelkader is a useful complimentary player. Smart GMs don't give useful complimentary players, especially 28 year old physical ones, 7 year deals. Terrible. The likelihood of him being worth that over the last 3 years of the deal is close to nil.

Orr had a huge plus because he scored a lot and was one of the best players to ever play the game.

Miller is only useless 5 on 5 if you don't value defensive play. You can't have 4 lines that can score in a cap league

Jurco needs to prove he's willing to do the work before he gets into the lineup regularly, much less play with Datsyuk. You don't understand how plus minus works, do you? Muller isn't going to be + very much because his line doesn't score. Player A is on the ice for 90 goals for and 85 against, +5. Player B matches up against scoring lines, is in the ice for 15 goals for and 25 against in a similar amount of ice time. Who's line is better defensively?

To win in the NHL you need 2 elite forwards and an elite defenseman. Wings have Larkin as a potential elite center, and then who? A couple maybes at forward and nothing on D. They need to make a trade or two, or get lucky in the draft. I'd absolutely give up Smith Nyquist and Pulk for Kopitar but there's no way that gets it done. The Kings are going to want one good young NHL player and at least one high level prospect, not a 3rd pair D and a one dimensional shooter. Nyquist or Tatar and one of Larkin, AA, Mantha, or Svechnikov
